    • I was about to take exception to you, there, up until "...but fun."

Yes. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is indeed a fun dumb movie; I put it in the same universe as Van Helsing, as it has the same kind of energetic brain damagedness. You CAN'T take it seriously. But if you don't, it's a splendid ride.

The original Wicker Man is indeed a classic. Only complaint I have with it is that it lacks the punch on the second viewing, since you know what's coming...

    • Rewatching first season of Stranger Things. Still really good.     Haven't heard much particularly good about the second. But heading that way.
    •   In addition to a stone giant, perhaps they could do a turtle without the saddle? That one received a lot of likes on my timeline when I posted.   And in addition to the elemental of earth, perhaps a fire, air, and water version?
    •   If we assume that the average generation is about 30 years, in the last 900 years there have been 30 generations. Each generation requires 2 parents. That would mean that at the 30 generation distance, you have 230, or approximately 1,000,000,000 ancestors. Until fairly recently, Iceland was, as I understand it, fairly isolated, and in 1100AD has been estimated as 70,000 - 80,000.   Interestingly, 75,000 is smaller than 1,000,000,000.    It's quite likely that every person then alive who still has living descendants is your ancestor.   Relatedly, since one of my great-grandmothers was born in Ostpreussen, it's very likely that I'm a descendant of both Genghis Khan and Augustus the Strong of Sachsen (and sometime King of Poland) among many others.   Yay, us.      Autorotation in a helicopter is pretty interesting. You need to change the pitch during the first part of the descent to increase your rotor speed to the optimum level, then change the pitch at the last moment so that the rotor momentum is converted to enough thrust to make the landing survivable.   Interestingly, large jet glide ratio runs around 15:1 (15m forward for every meter dropped), which is significantly better than most GA aircraft.
