This was such a fun mini to paint. The sculpt has so much character and the details are great. I may go back and add some gloss finish to the nose and eyes to give them more of a "wet" look. Now that I see the pictures, I'll probably also touch up the reflection on the red bead.

My take on Finari. Her eyes were more annoying than most. It took quite a few trys to make them look like they were mostly looking in the same direction.

Singling out one failure among the myriad of mistakes made in my life...such as it is...would be like picking a favorite grain of sand from the Sahara Desert. I may not have made spectacular failures, but I certainly was prolific in my erring. One thing I have learned is that it isn't the things you have said or done that you rue in later life. It's the things that you have left unsaid or undone.

I painted this fig over the weekend. I typically stick with the bones material, but I liked this fig so much I splurged for the metal version. I went with a red color scheme for a dragonborn character that I rolled up for an upcoming adventure. I like how the gold armor goes with the reddish brown skin, but if I had to do it over, I would have chosen a more vibrant purple for the shield and cloth bits of the tunic. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I can definitely see myself getting a few more of these and doing them with color schemes for all of the other types of dragons. Comments and critiques are welcome as always! Thank you!

Acquired: Scale 75 Inktensity, a cutting mat, Eldandil Violet and Ishtar Pink (S75 paints), a Winsor & Newson Series 7 Minis 3/0 (I want to try tiny brushes for detailing again, now that I'm hooked on 2s). Got some replacement wet palette sponges (half the price of the local art store). However, the pack that I most wanted was not in the shipment. The pack of 6 simple square wooden plinths isn't in the darned shipment. I was hoping to not need another run to the hardware store this week, but I'll have to if I want to mount the lion bust before CMPA. Ordered from Competition Minis. Color me not-impressed by forgetting an item. No major sale or anything going on either

Making progress on the collection - there's all but one of the WotC Gnolls, as well as Reaper's 02467 and 02592, a bunch of other WotC non-Chainmail stuff, some Heritage Dungeon Dwellers, the Ral Partha Ravenloft guy Frantisek Markov, Toede from the TSR Dragonlance 1 set, and all kinds of Grenadier stuff from the Monster Manuscript sets. I have a feeling that at least a couple of dozen figures are going to be coming home with me by the time I'm done.

Ahhh I tried some new things! This was one of those sculpts that I saw and immediately fell in love with. I painted her to be a major NPC on the game I'm running. I did my first ever basing on this one, using some plaster(?) and cork for the rocks, and green stuff and the runic roller from GSW for the floor. I wanted to make it look like she was in a dilapidated temple, and the patterns on the floor were glowing with magic. Any critique and comments are welcome! I'd especially love some advice on the gemstone. I'm still trying to sort out gem reflections, and I'm not 100% happy with it

The first figure I finished this month. I had been wanting to paint this guy for a while, but had been kind of intimidated and unsure where to start. I finally decided to just go for it, plus the DM is going to need it soon. I'm glad I did, it was a lot of fun and an interesting challenge. I absolutely love how the face came out! Let me know what you think.

This mini is one my nephew picked out, then later decided he didn’t want. I couldn’t decide how to paint it for months and months. It’s a ninja. Ninjas wear black. But I just couldn’t get myself to hand paint a thousand layers of gray again. I thought maybe I should use other colors: reds or blues or something. But darn it, ninjas wear black. Finally I decided to just Prime it black, airbrush German gray, airbrush light gray, wash with black, airbrush very pale yellow, airbrush pure white from above to his left, black out the base rim, and just be done with it. He won’t exactly stand out, but hey, he’s a ninja!

I feel obligated to add my mother's best failure, because it benefited the whole family. She was baking cookies. She opened the cookbook to Snickerdoodles. She began to measure stuff out and dump it together in the mixing bowl. Then she realized she'd been reading from the wrong page, when she got to "add oatmeal". She'd been reading proportions from the wrong page, and was on the Oatmeal Cookie page. Not to be deterred, she just switched reading to the correct page and continued with the otherwise wrong proportions, now adding stuff as if it were Snickerdoodles. The result was the best darned cookie ever: The Mistakerdoodle.

I'm excited now! I remembered Happy Seppuku base stamps exist. Now, Mr. Mouse is going to get me some with the $30 that got refunded from CMON. I guess I'm still getting something pretty awesome out of this. :) Also, how do I choose only six?

Fortunately I seem to be a harmless drunk. My playing degrades so I have to drop to polkas instead of reels and jigs, I still seem to be responsible enough to use the pocket breathalyzer on my whistle case, and I walk into walls even when I'm sober. Huh.

My players were supposed to be sneaking around and not letting the locals know they're space aliens. So naturally they march right up to the secret policemen, tell him they're space aliens, set a Goblin with a flame thrower on a rampage, and kick off a shooting war with orbiting destroyers. I really did not know how I thought this was going to go.

Gotta tell ya, personal space bubbles are pretty awesome. Also, it's fun to fun people/dogs over in them. Did that post earlier? Eh whatever... Satisfying evening. Watched The Avengers, primed some minis, and based some other minis. Interview this morning stretched into this afternoon, and I've got another long interview (a different one) scheduled for Thursday. Being a house husband might soon be coming to an end.

I got word that on Saturday I'll be picking up some overtime, which is good news! The bad news is that it means I'll get off work at 8am and have to be back at 5pm to work a 12 hour shift. My boss has already told me that after midnight that night he doesn't really expect me to do much more than just drive around, so that's good. But I like extra money, even if it isn't a whole lot.

I started out with an Egyptian Undead faction in my Lost World but it didn't feel right. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/ After some good advice from @malefactus I decided to move the Eygptians to their own thread. The last one finished this month so far. I decided that I should get some more practice in on skin. I used @NecroMancer's suggestion from my Storm Giant and tried out a very light glaze of red and I think he came out less washed out.

Failure to communicate properly (and some broccoli faced professors who deserve rabid weasels in their labs) are the reason I met Sir Cyr. I went into the lab on the weekend to do my projects without the professors around. He was sleeping in the lab on the weekend. So.... thanks broccoli face professors for making me find this person! I spectacularly failed linear algebra. Twice. I failed that after acing calculus, and beat myself up over it. I still finished my physics degree despite issues with linear algebra. I learned that failing isn't the end. It isn't a reason to stop. I also learned that math tutors can be sufficient replacements for therapy (or at least it helped me). Seeing matrices made me have flashbacks to crying over cups of soup - I actually knew the math, except I couldn't *do* the math. So my math tutor got to watch me do math and chat with me to distract me from impending sadness.

I am a Grumbly Grump - as far as I can make out, there are no local Swing dances going on for St. Valentine's Day this year - but there is one the day after, when we can't make it. No movies or concerts that interest us. Ah, well, I will come up with something. *EDIT* A dance featuring a band called Barf Horse is particularly unappealing - and the rest seem to be aimed at the '70s, '80s, and '90s... not the '30s and '40s. Trying to decide what to do for the Kids Game when they wrap Skull & Shackles (I abbreviated and changed it a bit - some of it is not suitable for minors). Part of me wants to run Reign of Fire (Pathfinder Arabian Nights - with gnolls running around being annoying) or Kingmaker. Running Kingmaker seems easier, as long as I avoid having the kids do much Kingdom Building, but I know at least some of the kids have seen Aladdin, so Reign of fire is tempting too. (And gives me an excuse to paint up a bunch of Bones gnolls, and maybe buy a box of gnolls from Frostgrave, using the larger Bones gnolls as the nastier characters.). The Auld Grump

Yup another project, as if I didn't have enough on my hands. This will take a while, but I will start again. A few decades ago ( before I roamed this Forum) I created a Barbarian Army with Animal allies. I sold it and all I have left are these tiny pics that show only part of it. Also, this was decades ago so I didn't paint as well as I do today ( or at least I think so) Here are the old pics as appetizers, I will soon start the new army. Enjoy!

I have the Square Tile one of theirs that I used for a tiny diorama for the wife when she started her new teaching job last summer. I have thus far, resisted purchasing more of them, although I did back Basius' last kickstarter and picked up a 8-pack from them (that I also haven't used yet) They're kind of hard to see what they'll look like in the reverse-relief..

<kicks box full of 1st generation Happy Seppuku stamps under table> Well generally I would recommend the flagstone and narrow plank stamps as being the most useful starting point. If you do any steampunk/modern stuff then I'd suggest a brick one like the fishscale one because it's super time consuming to sculpt yourself. The sci-fi stamps look good but we generally just play fantasy games so I haven't tried them myself. I like the grassland one for adding just a bit of texture. Really wanted to buy the temple courtyard one but apparently he needed to make a new plate for that stamp because the old one broke. (I emailed a couple of weeks ago to ask.) Instead I got the stone shore stamp, which I've been meaning to test out. Not sure that I'd recommend the ferns, vines or forest floor because the detail level is only okay. Ahem. Maybe I should go get those paints out like I meant to an hour ago. Or perhaps the greenstuff.

Theatre: The moment I walked on stage in The Foreigner and blanked. I looked for help to the person I was supposed to be interacting with... our most seasoned actor on the stage at the time... and he gave me this wide blank eyed look. We both tried to think of something to say for what seemed like an eternity. I finally remembered one of my later lines and we went on from there. To the audience it probably wasn't even five seconds... but, that was an eternity on stage. I won't say that I haven't had moments where I couldn't remember a line since then, but having been baptised in fire I have learned how to adapt and how to at least say something until we can get back on track. It has also helped me study my lines in a way so that not only can I ground myself in where I am supposed to be but also be aware of things I can say that could help other people. Work: Sadly, I haven't committed work-sepuku in a way that really had me learn in an exceptional way. Perhaps I work too safely and need to push the boundaries more... and that probably applies to a lot of my life. I don't live on the edge of failure often enough.

I hate our modern disposable society. I have a handful of tools and things that are about the same age as me. They may not be fancy but they still work. I buy pretty much anything now and have to expect it will be replaced within 2 years. So we finished watching Sword Art Online II this afternoon. Kind of a wild switch in direction near the end. I've watched enough anime the last couple of years to not be shocked by that but dang that was a tough few episodes to watch. Might be going soft when I get misty eyed at cartoons. Some anime can do that to me.
