Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

That's dumb. No, no it's not. I know it sounds dumb, but the composite materials that are being used in inexpensive construction (as found in apartment buildings) will combust if someone is careless (someone will always be careless). We had a pretty serious fire here two years ago because someone used their deck for grilling.

Trying to get back to painting miniatures

    1. Do you have an Android device? If so, there is an app out there called paintRack. It has a color-comparison feature that can help you find near-misses in many paint ranges. It does have Mr. Hobby in the settings. Courageous Octopus are working on an IOS version, but haven't announced anything yet. 2. Motivation is a tricky one for me, as well. For me, I think that the best motivation is using some painted minis in a game. Once I get a couple done, those blank ones just don't look right...so I have to paint more, and more, and more...

Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

For those with a more "just in case" mindset, I have found that Reaper's pistol/paint cases make a pretty good container for an emergency kit. I put in a few Mylar emergency blankets, a couple grease pencils, notebook, emergency whistle, signal reflector, roll of electrical tape, multi-tool, small screwdriver with multiple heads, replacement nose pads for my glasses (I go blurry about 6-8" in front of my nose), a couple replacement bulbs for my headlights, and a cheap shemagh. I already have a window breaker/seatbelt cutter in the well of my door. A cheap first aid kit (adhesive bandage multi-pack in an overpriced case) came with the vehicle, and both kits fit in the well for the spare donut. I could still use a couple items (paracord, flares, and such), but I don't anticipate doing anything more than local driving for some time. I've also used surplus ammo cans for the same purpose for Eldest and Youngest.

What could be more fun than a good defenestration?
  6. I almost regret not getting Argent. I know I'd never get him painted, though...even though I have ideas. Blacksting looks great. My Mumlak will never look that good. I have no idea what I'm going to do with that guy--he's huge! Rocky is cute. I passed on the others. Nothing against them, I'm just being a boring, (semi-)responsible adult. *blech*

I suppose so. BUDGE OVER BIGMUSCLES. PUNY CYR IS HERE!! I played wa-ay too much Street Fighter II when I was younger: I just imagined the plane "whoosh" and "Here comes a new challenger!"

I went with the extra triads for the free shipping.

I had figured he was working on the stuffing. I could just sit there and eat the stuffing...well, and the cranberry sauce.

    What's on TV?

Grrr...still behind on the Marvel shows. The wife keeps complaining there's nothing on, then won't watch the new seasons. I hope Netflix wraps it all up nicely. Watched two shows on Netflix: The Haunting of Hill House and Haunted. I liked Hill House. I've never read the book, and have no idea if I've seen the original movie, but I really enjoyed the series. I would have done the ending differently, though. The producers said they designed the show for multiple watchings, and there are allegedly many things hidden in the backgrounds. I spotted a couple, but didn't feel that re-watching would bring that much to the table. Haunted, though, was lackluster. I'm trying to be kind here. It felt like someone took the worst aspects of "A Haunting," "Paranormal State," and "The Dead Files" and came up with something with slightly higher production value than drunken campfire stories and slightly less verisimilitude. I left the show-selector on "Stripes" the other day and let it play out. "Stripes" for anyone out there not old enough to know, or not interested in comedy, is a comedy starring John Candy, Sean Young, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis. A bunch of misfits join the army, and shenanigans ensue. But you wouldn't know it from the Netflix splash trailer...which is filled with dramatic music making "Stripes" feel more like a dramatic action movie. Needless to say, this makes me laugh.
  14. Hmm... Y'know, those Wraiths from Bones IV? I think they might look nice on some sort of spectral mounts (evil looking unicorns, horses with fiery manes and tails, bat-winged horses, super-gaunt horses with nasty-looking barding, etc).

    [SPLIT] Vortex Shakers

Most of the ones I have seen require you to hold the paint bottle. The downward pressure seems to be switch that activates the motor. From what I've seen (which is, admittedly, not much--there are videos on YouTube) it wouldn't be worth walking away. You'd barely get to the door before your paint was mixed--like a five or six count to mix the bottle.

An excellent idea. Especially if the missus were to come with a pug swarm... I would suggest another potential idea could be a deal on some/all(?!) of the many wonderful sculpts done by Mr. Wiebe that are in Reaper's catalog...

Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

I'm just leaving this here to try and clear it out of the editor. The car's been grinding the last couple weeks. It finally started knocking when turning, so I took a day off work to get it into the shop. Done, in and out, within an hour! I debated going into the office after all, but the idea of a nap won out.
  19. Don't lose hope yet. I had a package go from Denton to Omaha...via Maryland.
  20. Ooh, nice. I didn't realize we had so many pirates available in Bones.
  21. Whoo-hoo! I placed an order on the 10th, and got it on the 13th! I honestly wasn't expecting it until next week 'cuz USPS. Alien Colors I Old Favorites I Olive Skintones Evening Colors Royal Purple (a certain vampire will be getting some of this) Dark Elf Skins Mudcroak Squogs (2) Reaper Stocking Caerindra Thistlemoor, Fighter Sample Paint!
  22. I have acquired, direct from Ukraine, two miniatures from Legend of Signum... Willforts Todd, a pumpkin-headed "gentlebeing" of sorts (it's got a top hat fer cryin' out loud). I've got a feeling that his paint job will be something similar to morning dress. I actually set up the hat and scythe on the wrong sides, oops. I have also acquired Graf Varkula (I prefer the title "graf" to "lord" as it's less familiar to American ears). A noble of obvious vampiric origin--perhaps related distantly to Graf Orlock, who must have been a poor country cousin. Boy, that's a lot of little parts. I misidentified the scarf as cloak points, and I'm not sure if I'll fiddle with those little bats. Man, I need to upgrade my skills.
