Getting to know you: January 2019
MiniDungeonMaster replied to Corsair's topic in Off-Topic Rampancy
Interesting question, I've never thought much about this before but there are a few things I find myself saying quite a lot: "It is what it is" when in regular company or "Alea Iacta Est" (the die is cast) when in gaming or polite company, this comes from the fact that a lot of what I do (I'm particularly thinking of my cat rescue work here) is reactive, people are always saying to me "If only NAME had done this" "If only I had gone there and seen that" but- It Is What It Is. We can't change the past, we can learn from it, and try to teach people or encourage better habits going forward, but that doesn't change what's already happened and we have to react to the situation at hand- not the more ideal one we can imagine! When I say this in a gaming context- it's usually way more literal! The Die Is Cast- only the Lucky trait will save you from that 1 XD- 1164 replies

live The Skyless Realms -3D Printable Tabletop Models

Wow! Some really lovely pieces! Unfortunately I'm lacking in the 3d printer department! -
I went over mine in brown craft paint because I wasn't sure how well wash would apply to the bare plastic, I picked out a few details that would be other colours (metal or paper bits) then I did a very light tan drybrush over everything and a black wash to tone down the drybrush and shade- I think it worked out okay!

I work in the music industry and get given LPs as gifts semi-regularly, but have no was of playing them! And while when it comes to my hobbies- I’m a hoarder and the hobby room is a cluttered nightmare, the rest of the house is pretty minimalist and I throw out any clutter I can find, so generally any vinyl I get given is just re-gifted to someone who can play it and will appreciate it more than me!

Yeah even the late pledge option closed a long time ago now. After the kickstarter has shipped (at some point in February) we might have a better idea of when the retail releases will be scheduled. Which item was it that you were interested in? Some of the sculpts are available in metal if theres a particular model you're wanting for something? -

I'll take my tree down when I'm good and ready! Actually I normally would have it down by now but a very busy weekend followed by being struck down by a cold is not helping me. -
Wow! Great job! The hair in particular is great- the shine and texture is portrayed perfectly

I have this model and mine too was very hunched, after I stripped the inch of primer on it I boiled it and “pulled” him back up a bit straighter- but it is a hunched pose.

"Awakened" shrubs, trees, sticks and bushes, similar to treant's but in smaller sizes. In my experience anyway, I'm not sure if there are other kinds. -

Oh wow you're so organised! I can't even begin to think about what I might paint first- especially with so much already on my shelf of shame XD I do know that I keep going back and looking at the Dark Reach / Dreadmere expansions, so if I had to guess, probably something from one of those! -

I agree, better to pay the VAT upfront and then not have to pay a handling fee for the privilege of the Royal Mail calculating the VAT for me. -

Maybe, but I'm really not hopeful, at this point I'd consider it an unexpected surprise! I don't like being in the hole for ~£100, but it was definitely a lesson learned. I think the guy means well but if he ever ran another kickstarter I'd run a mile and advise anyone else to do the same. -

I didn’t back the first terrain crate but I did get given one of the boxes by FIL for my birthday and I really liked it- if the price it right I can see myself backing this quite thoroughly. Yes I found some of the plastic needed boiling the thinner bits- but I can’t bring myself to complain about that when I do the same for bones without complaint

I agree! My most recent order when it arrived I almost didn't open it right away because I didn't realise it was from Reaper - I was expecting a bigger box! Then I realised it was from Reaper and opened it- only to realise I couldn't get them all back in there to take them home (I have most of my mail delivered to work where there's always someone to sign for packages) -

As basically everyone has said- it's really hard to pin down 1 actual favourite miniature. However I definitely have a favourite category, which is "monsters" followed by "creatures" where monsters means: Things that don't exist in the real world (owlbears, hippogriffs, dragons etc) and creatures means: Animals that do exist, or are modified slightly like "dire" animals. I don't mind painting people, but they do find themselves drifting to the bottom of my priority list. Just as well really because my D&D campaigns often require more monsters etc than people miniatures.- 1164 replies

Same- I need to clear some space on my book shelves for the incoming box- this is my first bones KS, I went fairly heavy on the extras so not sure exactly how much space to expect to need but certainly more than I have now is a safe bet!! -
Interesting- I’m still fairly new and thus far have been fairly obsessive- but lately have been starting to wonder if I’m wasting my time! Do you find not getting all the crevices means they come off easier at a later date? I’m worried that the primer I’m trying to strip (Vallejo on Wizkids “pre-primed”) will be weakened and later down the lines this will cause problems even if I prime over it? Im also considering getting an ultrasonic cleaner for this purpose- I’ve seen a few people mention it and it looks like you can get one with a stainless steel tub for ~£20 which is probably worth the punt. Have you found this is good for paint stuck in crevices?

Well other than collecting miniatures that I pretend I’m going to paint(!) I also play D&D. I am fairly regular at our local board game cafe, my partner and I hold cinema cards so we see almost every new release- regardless of quality- and I find most of my free time taken up by volunteering for a local cat charity as a fundraiser, foster liaison and general catsbody!- 1164 replies

I feel this so much. I briefly worked in a bar that served food (They called it a restaurant but I think that's a bit of an overstatement) We couldn't serve booze until noon as well- but as we served breakfast, people wanted a beer with their breakfast, and would get truly livid if they couldn't have it. I only worked morning shifts very rarely so I didnt have to put up with it much but I got called every name under the sun for not serving breakfast booze. my usual response was just "This isnt Whetherspoons, take the orange juice or wait an hour" Customer service is not my strong suit.

They receive an e-mail via amazon asking "them" a question, my impression is when seeing answers like that is that they think they personally are directly being asked a question, so they answer, even if they don't know- which is sweet- but not helpful. -

Never even heard of it I’m afraid! At first I thought it might have been the tech used for a certain infamous pirate radio station in my area used but looked it up and couldn’t tell. If they see much use in the UK it’s in circles I am not in I’m afraid!
