  1. Greens.

You know, you say this, and I can't help but think of this http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript?SK=202 The greens are looking really sweet. I can't wait to get me a few halfling assassins. My campaign that I'm currently in is almost complete, but that still won't keep me from making a conversion of my halfling warrior what wield an anciet dwarven 2-handed battle ax! Yes, its crazy.
  2. Ok, I've painting on my own for over 8 years now, and I'd say I've done a fair job on my own with very little technique or instruction (didn't really learn from anyone all that much). In short, I've had drybrushing, no thinning, and some watered down inks, that's about it. Example of my Halbarand found in this thread... http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Sup...825704D0027C3B8 Now, I have found my passion reborn, and I'm excited to bring myself up to speed. Naturally I hit up the internet and try to find something new to add to my minis. The result is astounding! But, there is a catch. I keep seeing refrences to all sorts of basic art maneuvers such as highlighting, thinning, layering, so on and so forth. Now I have seen some refrences to these techniques (even on Reaper's own page), and I'm usually left scratching my head. My biggest concern is how much and where to put it. I like seeing ratios, such as 1:2 thinner/color, but I have no idea where to put the mixture, I'm also left confused as to what I should use to mix, should I keep some on hand, etc etc. Essentially, I'd like some lamen's terms please. I've seen a lot of techniques, and I'm very eager to learn (I do learn quickly! Honest!), but it is hard for me to understand the advanced techniques without the basics
  3. Dungeon Puss Maggot!

Ooh! Ooh! I want one!!! The sculpt and the paint job look really nice!!!
  4. Getting the horse before the cart

I used to live in P-Field, but now I live in Central IL, DOH! Thanks though! To everyone else, great stuff so far, keep it coming!
  5. I know somethings behind me!

Hey all! As I try to get better skills with a camera and understanding the medium of it, I'll be posting more and more here. For my first though is the set of eyes that ended up on my Alaine, Female Paladin (Reaper# 2725). Now, before anyone asks, this is a COMPLETE accident. Originally I started on the right eye. I had the white done and was adding the green. I can honestly say I don't spend nearly enough time on my minis (working on that one), and when I went to put the green on the right eye, my hand was a wee bit shaky. Well, the green ended up where it did, but I managed to stay inside the lines enough that I loved the look of it, so with more precision I tried on the left and success! Then it was just a matter of the pupil, which was also a great success! So my end result is a very suspicious Paladin And in case you're wondering, here's the finished mini (don't look too close, just the eyes ) Front Back
  6. Warlord @ Winter Wars

Wonderful to hear! I would have been there myself, but work called :'(
  7. Paint it white!

Hey everybody, I'm starting to lurk, and do a lot more painting, but I'm a far cry from improving on my methods. Big question of the day, painting white. Recently I've found myself wanting to paint some pieces that are a nice sharp Dragon White, but have textured backgrounds, areas, etc. I've tried a few things, and each time I come up unsuccessful, and I am seeking help! Pretty much outside of just putting the paint on the minis (out of the bottle), I just have drybrushing, though I think I do it slightly different from what it is normally done (maybe). If I could get my hands on a digi camera I could put up some pics of what I've gotten done. Edit: Ok, I got my hands on a cam, tried taking some pics, that's a learning experience I've begun upon, but here's a Halbarad that I did, just to give you an idea of my skill level. Please help
  8. "Warlord for Idiots"...

My recomendation for new people getting interested in Warlord is just to keep it simple. Figure out or ask what is more likely to be used and try not to worry about all the in-depth stuff. You don't need to go into the game imbued with full knowledge, try it first and have some fun :)
  9. Dark Font of Thule

Hey guys! I'm going to be starting my 3 events this weekend for my entrance into the BL program and I wanted to let my hometeam(s) know about it! The first one is this Saturday (a bit sudden I know), and if you're interested, will be taking place in East central IL. It will be at... Valhalla Games 807 1/2 S. Neil St. Champaign IL, 61820 (217)-356-6279 http://www.valhalla-store.com So feel free to stop on by and help support, or play, or whatever :)

  11. Barthos Belongs to the Dwarves!

Bwa ha ha ha! Enjoy your victory for now, but beware, darkness creeps through the veins of Barthos! I submitted my application for the BL team today (VERY Excited!), and I'll be bringing the joy of Warlord to East Central IL (Possibly developing a rivalry between us and Western IL ;)), but yes, official games with a Darkspawn/Necropolis player, bwa ha ha ha!!! I look forward to seeing you guys on the field of battle!
  12. Becoming the Storm!

Hey all! It was only a matter of time, but that time is now. Life has finally calmed down enough to the point where I can consider joining a demo team again. I was apart of the AEG's Bounty Hunter program for about a year (little more), but I've passed beyond those games. Warlord has been a great joy for me as of late, and has been most of the gaming I've had recently. I'm currently located in Plainfield IL (60544) and I have a few questions before I submit my application. Please note I have already gone over the whole page for the BL, these are additional questions. 1.) From what I understand, to become a full active member I have to do a total of three events over the course of three months at either a) one gaming store, or b) three different stores. If this is true are there limits to what stores I can choose or are any stores open? 2.) How much of Reaper's products should I know? Do I have to be able to run multiple choices (Warlord, C.A.V., Dark Heaven, Painting Demos), or is it ok if I just know one? 3.) Is it ok to run games at a store that isn't registered through Reaper? The one I'm wanting to make my home base is Valhalla Games (http://www.valhalla-store.com/) in Champaign IL and they JUST opened like, two or three weeks ago and have yet to pick up any Reaper lines (though I have already begun to push for them to hold Reaper Mini's, and even made an order through them). I have already talked with the owners and they are ok with me doing demos there and have even offered to order some stuff (this is for Warlord and will be Sat Oct 29th if all goes well). My goal is to help bring Reaper games to Central IL, or at least, the Eastern area of it :) So feel free to help me with my questions and if anyone is in the area, let me know!
  13. Becoming the Storm!

I'm very excited and very eager to be joining! :) [suckup]I know that it will be a fantastic experience, and I look forward to working with such a great company! [/suckup]
  14. Becoming the Storm!

Many thanks to ReaperBryan for answering the questions, and I'd like to address some of your concerns. 1.) While the store does not as yet carry a full line of Reaper Products, when I mentioned to them that I would like to demo a reaper game for them they requested some advance notice so they could order and stock some appropriate product (in this case, Warlord) so there would be items available on the day of the demo. I also want to note that they mentioned buying product from their distributor first, without mention from me :) 2.) I have loved Reaper and their products since I discovered them about 4 or 5 years ago. I love the paints, the minis, and the games. While I am unfamiliar with C.A.V. at this moment, if I join BL I will support it fully, even if I do not know much about it. 3.) When I demo for a store, I am participating in a mutually beneficial relationship. By demoing, I get a chance to share a hobby and a passion with others, and I encourage people to purchase from the store when I demo. I also purchase a lot of product through my FLGS as a personal way of supporting them. I have already made mention that Reaper minis (in my experience) make good character minis and are worth looking into. I also placed an order with them for some Reaper Minis that I needed to help get the ball rolling (As it'll be a few more days before I get down there, I imagine that they are sitting out and enticing people to ask :)). My FLGS has shown an interest in carrying Reaper product and I will be non-forceful in my support of this :) 4.) I have actually had the opportunity to meet Dracos (if I remember correctly), and I have communicated (albeit briefly) with Spire. I hope to keep up communications. I will be submitting my application for the Black Lighting program in the next day or two so keep an eye out for it! :) It feels good to be getting in to demoing again :)
  15. Becoming the Storm!

Well, I'm refering more to the Champaign-Urbana area. I'm trying to get school finished up and secure employment in that area, but I'm willing to travel a bit so I could see myself travelling south to Charleston, or west towards Bloomington (I don't really know what's north of Champaign). As it is I'm in Champaign every other weekend, and with the new gaming store that opened, I thought that now would be the perfect time :)
  16. In the Depths of Arkturile

Ok, this is more gushing over my new figs rather than strategy mongering, though advice is welcome :) Over the weekend I managed to get a sweet deal on some Paintenders, here's the story While I was at Dragon's Table, I noticed a blister of Paintenders and they were marked at $4.99. My reaction "WHOAH! $4.99? That's WAY cheap!" Which is true as they normally go for $13.99. So the decision came up that I either tried to sneak them under the radar or let the owner know and do my good deed for the day. I choose the latter and asked John (the owner) what the cost on them was. Turned out it was mis-marked, but he cut me a deal and gave me a discount. Cost of Paintenders, $8, savings, $6, wootage. So now I have me a nifty trio of 3 ladies interested in cattleprods :) I also managed to pick up some other figs this weekend, they are Spawn of Mashaf Javolith (this one and the Spawn I waited three weeks for my FLGS to get the order in ) 3x Paintenders Guros, Baron of the Whips So that's my story, though whenever I think of Guros, I keep thinking of him as, "Le Baron!" Does anyone know how to say Baron of the Whips in French? That'd be a cool touch :) Well, maybe not, but it'd still be fun. I'm pretty excited about painting Guros, I was flipping through the fan mini page, and someone had painted a Guros all red and meaty and rippling bicepish, and it looked cool, and I want the same idea for mine :) Ok, here's what I got as far as minis go, any ideas/suggestions for a force of about 750 - 1000 points? Any suggestions for what I need to get? 1x Witchqueen 1x Guros 1x Javolith 3x Archers 3x Paintenders 9x Warriors 1x Spawn of Mashaf 1x Ashakia Now I do want to let you guys know that I plan on getting at least one more blister of Paintenders, I'm eager to try out a unit that has horrid all around :) Just need a good serg or capt. to help round out the mix.

Scars you say? Hrm, she is a pretty lil thing, but is it worth self mutliation?

Hey everybody, its been a long time since I last posted on here, even longer since my last (and only) official game. I've still been collecting and painting, and a friend and I get together every now and then and play (I've got Necro and Spawn so its cool :)), but I"m trying to find people in my area so I can get an extra game or two in. Currently I'm located in the Chicagoland area, more specifically the Plainfield/Joliet/Aurora/Bolingbrook area. If anyone is in the area let me know! And for those of you out at Games Plus, I plan to get out there again sometime, honest!
  19. In the Depths of Arkturile

I like what you are saying, it is good advice. Currently, I don't have that many models to make too large of an army, that and I don't have the models for it yet either. I should be getting myself Javolith and the Spawn this weekend, but when building two armies at once, it can be slow going. As for archer agressiveness, I tend to lean towards attrition, so more movement while mowing things down. As for Drain Life, I see its value more in a spell that has a dual purpose. In many instances, there will be several models w/multiple DT's, it doesn't matter how good or worthwhile they are, 20 points takes a DT which is the main purpose, and then you have the option of bolstering another model back up a point. Yes there are other spells that either cost less or can be cast defensively, but I think that having this option, to do both, is a significant benefit as it gives us bad guys a chance to heal. The main thing to remember is the hurting and pain, and if one of our boys (or girls) can get a cookie out of the deal, then it works for me And thank you for the warm welcome, its good to be here :) And I can't wait for a Rauthuros model 8)
  20. Dark Font of Thule

I like the Gargoyle :) His low cost makes him a good asset for smaller armies, but his stats are versitile enough that you could throw him into a larger game and he'd be a good control factor (coup'de'grace, looting, harrasing spell casters, distracting archers, etc etc)
  21. Player Database

Actually, I believe I met the three of you at one of Dracos' demos :) It was at Games Plus in Mt. Prospect, I was the guy with the Necros stuff, and if I remember correctly, it was Dracos' Significant other who had just finished her Golfing Wraiths :)
  22. In the Depths of Arkturile

I dunno, I always thought of using the queen to skirt around the battle field a bit, throw a few spells, twang a few bowstrings. More of an attrition tactic I guess. With Nasithe in the group, if anyone got too close just have her teach them why they made a mistake. I know Nasithe might be better used in a fighter oriented group, but she provides some REALLY good defense, and anyone familiar with her stats will think twice before trying to come close to the Queen. The thing of it is, the Queen is only so so in combat, her strong point is magic. I say bank off that, keep her close to the fray but not in it. Also, as another point, if you don't have the Necropolis faction book, I'd recomend picking it up for some of the magic available in there, specifically, Life Transfer. Normally its a necro only, but if you can cast grade 3 spells, and are an evil mage, you can take it. It'd be a great way to keep your archers/Nasithe alive while continuing the attrition. I agree with you whole heartedly. While getting accustomed to Dark Spawn, I remember going back and taking a look. I haven't played too many games and I'm still going over all the SA's, but when I looked at the Tender's, I noticed that they, as a unit, have the Horrid SA. My first thought is..."Why do I not have 2 blisters of these people?" I like to think of them as being a great deterent to oncoming armies and having more leway to maneuver into the combat you want. I only wish there was a cap or a sarge to go with em, darn soultender has to be a solo :) The Devourer needs to have the SA: Lovecraftian. What it does, I don't know or care, it just needs this. Any way this can be arranged or great and fearsome mods? The Devourer looks like he'd be fun for smaller skirmishes where there won't be a lot of points to throw around. He's cheap enough that you could throw him into the mix and spice things up a bit. In larger games though, I see him as a big balloon waiting for an archer to pop him. I'm hesitant on the Soultender. I see a good use for him if you have Paintenders, then you can better play off of his Reach, otherwise I see him there as a nice road bump. Spawn of Mashaf is just yummy, all there is too it. Any idea when we'll see a Rauthuros model? Guys?
  23. Player Database

(Voice of the Evil Piggies) I....did not know that. Yes, I am registered on Reaper Games under the same handle that I'm using now, I'll have to go and look. Thank you
  24. Dark Font of Thule

Hey all, I've been away for a while, but I'm back now :) While my experience has been very limited with Warlord, I've found that using Judas doesn't get me as far as using Moandain. Its neat, when I get in closer for close combat, I just stand there, throw down drain life, let them come to me, and its dinner time :) As for the Crimson Knights, indeed they are they jewel of Thule. I don't have enough pieces in my Darkspawn army to play a large opposing game, yet, but I still think a strong unit composed of Lord Kentaur 3x Chattel 6x Crimson Knights 1x Dauron (optional) might actually be a pretty solid block of fightin ability. I'm having some trouble forming any other decent units though. I haven't tried the wraiths yet, but skeletons seem like roadbumps, put there to amuse and annoy my opponent. What's a good solid second unit to take? Oh, and Bone Horror or Grave Horror?
  25. In the Depths of Arkturile

I'm going to chime in that I finally got my Dark Spawn starter at Gen Con along w/Ashakia and some archers. I've been playing with my friend, and as he/we are still learning some things, I've been setting up the army lists. One thing I've noticed is that its better to put Archers with the Witch Queen, keep her more to the back and have her fling spells while the archers, well, archer. Nasithe is a good defense against flyers/burrowers that might try to get through so I keep those two together. As for Javolith, I put a bunch of warriors with him and have them go to town :) Currently I'm waiting on my Javolith and Spawn models to come in, other than that I'm looking at the Paintenders as well, but I'm not sure which of the other solos I might want to consider. Any advice? Criticisms?
