Getting to Know You, Feb 2019

Here's a portion of what is under the brush this weekend:

    Happy Prognosticating Rodent Day

I think my gang of feral kitties ate him. Anyone know what groundhog fur looks like? There's some clumps in the space under the back deck...

So... who's ready for ReaperCon 2019?

There's also a nice pool, both an indoor and outdoor version. I plan to spend time there again this year.

Getting to Know You, Feb 2019

Don't have a lot of plans for February. The weather is cold and unpleasant and this is usually our stay home and save for the rest of the year period. Two rpg weekends later this month, and some minis to finish for that. Lots of mold in the basement yet to clean up: stuff to move and boxes to sort. Seeing my rheumatologist next week to talk about the crappy care and ineffective drugs I got last year and hopefully get 2019 on track. Will post photos tomorrow.

    Good Eats!

Well, cauliflower was .99 a head last week around here. Prices CAN be insane but with smart shopping (buying in season/on sale) you can do quite well on even a limited budget. Frozen veg are often under $1 a bag. Canned veg on sale 3/$1. You HAVE to be flexible. I saw fresh cherries for $5.99/lb today. No. Will wait until they are $1.99 or less in a few weeks. I bought green beans, .88/lb. , broccoli for 1.99. Jan/Feb is a terrible period for fresh produce in much of the US. Most of what we are eating right now is coming from South America or Mexico. Except for citrus it will be a couple months before our southern states start shipping produce again.

    Good Eats!

I've found you can do a number of surprisingly tasty things to cauliflower. Try the "potato" salad some time....
  7. Really like the purples and the magenta on the hat. Not sure the orange is working.. yet.

    Weight Loss Support Thread

I try to cook most of our food, even if it is just dumping lettuce out of a bag for a salad. Last year, with surgeries, I started to rely on frozen and packaged foods more, stuff that could be heated up easily. I need to stop that. It's all too high in carbs, calories, and fat. I will keep a few things in the freezer for bad days, but I need to get back to preparing more wholesome food. Also I thought we were eating enough vegetables, but after tracking for 3 weeks I can see that we are nowhere close. After 3 weeks of cutting dairy and added sugars I find I feel much better. I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't gained any either.

    GW high elf lord

Very colorful, he will look good on the table. Nice work on the details.
  10. It's been too cold to paint. Or prime, or use sealer. Haven't really accomplished anything the past two weeks. This arctic air is supposed to move out and I am hoping Feb will be more productive.

    Dark Elves

They look great together. There's a number of figures in Reaper's catalog that transform well with paint.

    Good Eats!

Since it is cold, I thought I'd make soup. Thai Coconut Soup (Tom Kha Gai) 1 T vegetable oil 1 T sliced fresh ginger 1 stalk lemongrass, sliced into coins 1 can coconut milk 1 can chicken broth 1 T fish sauce 1 t brown sugar 1 c sliced white mushrooms 1 fresh lime cilantro leaves red curry paste optional: chicken, shrimp, or tofu Warm the oil and saute the ginger and lemongrass until fragrant. Do not brown. Add coconut milk and broth. Add fish sauce and brown sugar and continue to cook on low while flavors develop. Add 1-2 t of curry paste, to taste. I suggest not adding more as the heat is cumulative, and even if you like it hotter you will overwhelm the other delicate flavors of the soup. Just before serving time strain out the bits of ginger and lemongrass. Slice the chicken thinly and add it the hot broth, letting it cook completely. It will only take a few minutes. Add sliced mushrooms, and squeeze in the lime juice. Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve. Serves ~4

Ninjas of Iga, Warlord Games (photo heavy)

Looks good for tabletop. You'll be setting them up to knock 'em down again. Wouldn't have noticed the arm if you hadn't mentioned it. Black covers a multitude of sins, including mold lines.

Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

On the other hand our mail got delivered in record time today. Usually the girl that brings it schleps along up and down the street talking on her cell phone, dropping mail in the yard or flower bed and doesn't deliver until 4 or 5 pm. Today I saw the truck at the end of the street about 2:30 and like 15 mins later heard the mail hit the box.

Raise your hand if it's snowing

[waves arm in the air] It's snowing here. Not going to last long, but the ground is frozen so it is sticking. I hear from the weather guy it is supposed to get up into the 60's this weekend. I think I will pick up a couple of steaks for the grill.

I don't remember the cost of gas last summer, but we used 2 or 2.5 tanks of fuel on our 20 hour round trip drive. Started with a full tank, topped it off halfway to Dallas, and again before leaving on Sunday. It's a sedan, not the most fuel efficient, but decent and comfortable for 3-4 people on a long haul.

She came out very well. Gorgeous browns. Really love her hair and the straps, gloves and metal work.

Only as far as the vet's office.

Not to mention it's not salad weather. Unless you're talking about German potato salad with extra bacon.

Frostbite is a rite of passage. At least it was when I was growing up. That said, I'm not going out tomorrow morning either.
  23. It's a quiet morning. Mrs McCarthy sweeps the church vestibule. (77088: Townsfolk: Grandmother) Lady Frances and Lady Rebecca admire the new flower beds in the church garden. (59009: Mad Scientist and 50327: Victorian Ladies) It's a beautiful day, what could possibly go wrong? The blue dress was inspired by this painting:
