Getting to know you: January 2019

Only as far as the vet's office.

Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

Not to mention it's not salad weather. Unless you're talking about German potato salad with extra bacon.

Frostbite is a rite of passage. At least it was when I was growing up. That said, I'm not going out tomorrow morning either.
  4. It's a quiet morning. Mrs McCarthy sweeps the church vestibule. (77088: Townsfolk: Grandmother) Lady Frances and Lady Rebecca admire the new flower beds in the church garden. (59009: Mad Scientist and 50327: Victorian Ladies) It's a beautiful day, what could possibly go wrong? The blue dress was inspired by this painting:

    Guidance on base coat paints?

Reaper products work well on all of the above. With the metals you want a base coat of primer, either Reaper's brush on or a spray product of your choice. I prefer Duplicolor sandable auto primer. With the Bones you need to wash them, and then they can be primed with brush-on or one of Reaper's liners, or just painted. Spray primer is not recommended for Bones, they will get sticky. For home made 3d figures I use the Duplicolor spray, and then whatever acrylic hobby paint I have.

Yes. Whatever I can find. Seems there is always a pair missing, or one of a pair missing.

Just a peaceful stroll in the garden...

I am, but this is not Kembleford. Something is sure making a lot of noise. That is the Hirst Arts gothic church DH and I started to build ~20 years ago. I'm sorry it's a bit worse for wear. Stay tuned!

That looks splendid! I would give that a go without hesitation. Especially with the caramelized onions and some of that mash in the background. I made haggis in college, just to see what it would taste like. Could not get a stomach, but was able to find intestines, which worked well enough. I've seen the haggis-in-a-can they sell in the US, and I'm sure it tastes like most things sold in cans....

    Scylla Models – Bay Watchers

I can see that a lot of detail went into the sculpts and they have individual character. However, they're a bit silly and not my style. That little drake familiar is cute though.

Going to build something from it?

So... who's ready for ReaperCon 2019?

Thanks for the heads up on the "premium" rooms. I was debating that upgrade, but thought it might be overpriced, and we shouldn't really be drinking soda anyway. This is a pic of our King suite. Our crap is piled all over but I can see we had a 1-cup drip coffee maker, mini fridge and a micro. IIRC the coffee maker took pods. We are tea drinkers so I wasn't paying a lot of attention. The bar sink was nice, I didn't have to get water out of the bathroom while DH was getting ready in the morning. The only annoyance was getting paper cups throughout the day. Room service gave us 2, and we would forget and throw them out and have to ask for more later in the day. So if you have a serious habit, bring a reusable mug. I forget what floor we were on but it was up there. 10 maybe? I don't recall any issues with hot water or pressure, but I wasn't using it at peak times. I print hotel confirmation emails as matter of course for ALL conventions and other trips. I've been told more than once upon arrival that they had no reservation on file, until I turned over the evidence with confirmation numbers and proof of payment. And last year at registration they tried to put us in a regular queen room until I pointed out that I had paid for a King suite.
  13. I've got 8 figures completed, and got sidetracked by terrain. Hoping to get photos taken this weekend.
  14. They look a very capable bunch.
  15. It was on one of the cable tv channels back in December, I think. DH and I watched it, and found it very moving. I'm surprised it hasn't made it to Youtube yet. We saw Into the Spiderverse this week. It was ok. Not what I was expecting. Funny in places. Very hard to watch and follow what was happening in others. The "out of focus" and "misaligned" coloration effects made my eyes hurt after a while. I would recommend it for hard core comic book and Spidey fans, I doubt anyone else would care much about the characters or the 'verse, or the story.

Omnivore. I eat all the foods, with very few exceptions. Okra is not a food. Tuna casserole is an abomination and I do not eat those, either. As long as food hasn't been destroyed by the person preparing it, I'll eat it. Lately I've been eating way too much of it.
  17. I've invested in a pair of Sterilite 28qt tubs. Part #1655. Available at grocery, hardware, and craft stores. They hold a lot, but are still easy to carry and stack, and the length is about the same as a standard closet depth making them easy to hide away. They also fit under beds and some other furniture.

    Chainrasp Hordes (Games Workshop)

Nice shading on the cloaks. The blue highlights really help bring out the definition on the figures instead of letting them sink into blackness.

    2018 Secret Sophie

I received a box from RobinH today. It was packed quite full. First, the sweets, liquid gold and chocolates. Also two lovely christmassy smelling candles. Then the toys. I have not painted any of these yet, great additions to the collection: And the pièce de résistance, a cute little vignette: That will go in my display cabinet with the other Very Special pieces. Beautifully crafted. I swear I can smell gingerbread. Thanks also for the cozy slipper socks. They are perfect! It was a breezy -2C today but it is supposed to get really cold this weekend so I am looking forward to trying them out and breaking into the cocoa. :) Merry Christmas!

DH was an early adopter. He is on his 3rd machine. I don't know much about them myself.

    Secret Sophie minis for Fealron

My exchange partner this year was Fealron and one of the ideas suggested was a new enemy or villain to throw against his players. I had this guy on hand and wondered if a giant werewolf would fit the bill: 14030: Vasyl, Rageclaw Alpha While I was painting that I came across these guys and they just begged to be henchmen: The one in the middle I believe is an old Grenadier, the others are clix. Meanwhile, back at the ranch I did a little digging and discovered that Fealron has a set of DwarvenForge, so I felt compelled to paint these as a gift. It's all molded from Hirst Arts molds (except the barrel mimic). I hope they provide hours of fun play.
