  1. Fan Plans for 2019 Paint all the figures in the annual box Continue my current Rangers of Shadow Deep campaign and perhaps work on two mini campaigns Paint three entries for miniature painting competitions this year Run a Call of Cthulhu game for my roleplaying group Paint character minis for all the players in my D&D group. Paint a Mithril miniature each month (at least one not only one) In keeping with my 2019 goals, in January I plan to: Paint a Reaper vulture for Rangers of Shadow Deep Paint a new figure for Grumpy the Dwarf in my D&D game Finish painting a pack mule for the D&D game Paint a new Brother of the Night's Watch Paint a Mithril miniature for January buckyball
  2. The key is knowing what to put in the box. In this year's box, I put in several Mithril miniatures. Since I try to complete one Mithril mini each month, it is a safe bet that I can get these painted. I also put in two miniatures that my friends and I agreed we would paint up for this year's Reapercon. So I know I will be painting these sometime before the convention. I have a bunch of miniatures that did not go into the box, even though I want to paint them. They are mostly for games my gaming group play now, but we may not be playing in a few months. buckyball
  3. This will be the third year. I started the annual box because I noticed I had many figures that I had collected which I intended to paint, but then I got distracted. I also had miniatures from sets that I had started, but then had procrastinated on. This year there are fewer figures in the box, but three of them are for painting competitions this summer. I do not swap out things at any point. That would defeat the purpose of the box. I do however sometimes do conversion work on the figures in the box. So that’s like swapping, but the miniature still gets painted. My completion rate is 100%. Last year I had the box 50% done in March. So it seemed to be a piece of cake. But I had started on the easy figures and I slacked off during the summer. We had started a new RPG and there were these two painting competitions and some conventions and etc. When I picked it up again in Fall it was hard to stay motivated. I had to force myself to finish that last Hasslefree figure on New Years Eve to complete 2017’s box.

  5. It’s this box. It isn’t all the figures I plan to paint. But I am giving myself a year to complete what is in the box.

Getting to Know Each Other, October 2018

For me, it really is using the miniatures in a game. If I paint too much and start to burn out, it means I am not playing enough. Playing I start to think about how the game would be improved with some character figures or game tokens or terrain. And then that motivates me to paint. buckyball

Getting to Know Each Other, October 2018

Film editing. Yesterday I recovered some lost footage from my friend's SD card. I also helped another friend with something called a low pass filter in Adobe Premiere. buckyball This is a tricky question. I probably average 8 hours a week painting. But then there is time I spend in what my girlfriend calls 'miniature land' which is mostly idly gazing at figures on CMoN and reading TMP ect.... There I am pretty sure I devote too much time. buckyball

Getting to Know Each Other, October 2018

This figure is a dragon made by Dragontooth miniatures back in the 70s. One of these dragons appears on the cover of the book 'Dicing with Dragons'. But it is painted green. This dragon is a contender for the oldest dragon. But I think that distinction goes to the minifigs dragon from their faux LotR miniatures line. buckyball

Getting to Know Each Other, October 2018

This may be the most valuable figure I have. And I have 3 of them, none got painted. I do have some older figures, like this Vallor from Ral Partha.

    August Hobby Goals!

Man I sucked at painting in August. But in my defense, I did go to Reapercon and a local convention. And that ate up a bunch of hobby energy. Next year I will plan on not getting anything done in August. That way I won't be disappointed. buckyball

    The Future of Metal

I think the market is approaching an inflection point, where more minis are made of plastic, but I doubt metal will be completely phased out. buckyball
