Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

Homemade sweet and sour chicken tastes so much yummier than what I can get from a takeaway.

Not sure if it's just my area or a British thing in general, but I've never seen anywhere that does cheap post-Valentines chocolate. Definately hot.

    The Exiles

A little bit more progress:- Painted her leg-warmers (1:1 Scarlett Red/Brown Leather > Brown Wash > 1:1 Scarlett Red/Brown Leather > 1:1:1 Scarlett Red/Brown Leather/Ochre Yellow > 1:1:2 Scarlett Red/Brown Leather/Ochre Yellow), the back of her shin-pads and boots (Brown Leather > Brown Wash > Brown Leather > 1:1 Brown Leather/Ochre Yellow) and Bronze buckles. Just got to get her base painted and I'm done, but my desk is currently covered in some half-built minis I found so it could be a while.
  4. The stars aligned just right this evening. The previews Games Workshop put out today of some of their new space adventurers finally convinced me to suck it up and pay the ridonkulous prices people were charging for the Blackstone Fortress Explorers Set on Ebay. And managed to snag the last set that someone was selling at a somewhat sensible price.

    The Exiles

Even more progress:- Painted up her belts (Leather Brown > 1:1 Leather Brown/Ochre Yellow > Brown Wash), Butchers Guild symbol (Brassy Brass), chains (Oily Steel) and her rather nasty looking hooked chain-blade (Oily Steel with a Bronze handle). Currently working on her triple-layered leg thingys.

    The Exiles

Thanks guys! More progress:- She got a vest (Steel Grey > Black Wash > Steel Grey > 1:1 Steel Grey/Ghost Grey) and trousers (Magic Blue > Black Wash > Magic Blue). Then I did her arm-thingys, the main part is Red Leather > Brown Wash > Red Leather > 1:1 Red Leather/Ochre Yellow, with her mittens and straps being the same but with Brown Leather. The left arm-thingy also has an Oily Steel throwing dagger attached.

It's finally dawned on me that I have movie-like dreams because I watch movies before I go to sleep. It sounds so obvious, but it didn't click with me until I realised last nights dream (A musical about a couple going on a time-travelling murder/robbery spree) was probably heavily influenced by last nights viewing of Highlander.

I used to collect anime and anime figures, but stopped years ago, mainly due to how expensive it was getting. I do still pick up One Piece (both anime and manga versions) as it gets released in English, which I guess sorta counts?

    Urkin Shaman

Presenting the Urkin Shaman, part of the Dickensian faction in the game Twisted. Being smarter than the average Urkin, he works as Nancys right hand man, relaying her orders to the others through the ancient art of hand-puppetry. He also has an ability to "Hulk out", hence the little and large versions. Had a few issues painting this pair, there's a few areas where I never really worked out what it was meant to be, and I don't really like how the scale is a bit off on the bigger Shaman, but overall I think they look okay. As always, and comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    What's on TV?

Finished Star Wars:- Rebels last night. Felt it had a decent run, even though season 2 was best season (I like my Star Wars force-user heavy).

    The Exiles

Progress:- Finished her hair with a layer of 3:1 Hexed Lichen/Off-white, a Black Wash, another layer of 3:1 Hexed Lichen/Off-white, then a highlight of Off-white with 2 brushtipfuls of the 3:1 mix and then a glaze of Hexed Lichen. Then I painted her apron (Iraqi Sand > Brown Wash > Iraqi Sand > 1:1 Iraqi Sand/Off-white), with Bronze buckles. And her shoulder/shin pads (Red Leather > Brown Wash > Red Leather > 1:1 Red Leather/Ochre Yellow) with Bronze studs and a Brown Leather strap and another Bronze buckle.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply it was anything special. It's just a normal Facebook account, containing as little personal information as possible (just my name and date of birth, I think).

    Urkin Shaman

Thanks for the 'Likes' and comments everyone! What happened was I ruined the bases some of my Urkins came with trying to make cobblestone ones out of Greenstuff, so I just used whatever right sized spares I had laying about. I don't play the game, so I'm not sure if it would cause a problem or not.

Apart from this forum I also lurk on Dakka (mainly in the hobby blog section) and Arlong Park (a One Piece fan forum, don't visit this one too often anymore though, it's pretty dead most days now). I also have a very basic Facebook account, just to follow a few companies who use it as their main communicating platform.

None of the above. Mine comes in little sachets.

It's windier outside than I realised. Lost control of a pile of recycling before I got it in the bin, spent a few minutes chasing a mini paper tornado around the garden.

    A little and large shaman

Forgot to take a piccy of the final steps with the painting of the rats. Done now:- http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84922-urkin-shaman/

    A little and large shaman

New to the table, I have the Shaman Urkin, both versions (in game he has the ability to 'Hulk Out'). Made a start to their skin with a basecoat of 1:1 Dwarf Skin/Dead Skin with Flesh Wash. Kind of intimidated by the task of carefully highlighting all the skin poking through the tattered clothing of big shaman, so calling it a day.

Rosemary and Co. 401 (sable blend) size 0. I've tried a few different kinds, but these ones hold their points nicely and are cheap enough to not worry about destroying.

If a mini has to have something attached to its feet, I prefer slot tabs because they're easy-ish to remove. Integral bases (broccoli or otherwise) aren't too bad, but as I like to mount them on plastic bases anyways (so the paint doesn't wear off) it's better when they're designed as base inserts. Only had one lot of minis with pins, or pegs in this case, and they were really annoying. Slightly too big to drill base holes for them, and too solid for my clippers to get through. Ended up breaking a couple of the more delicate minis before I gave up trying to get them based.

    Help finding beardless dwarf

There is this guy:- Lorgun Duneflint. But he's pretty much a stone age dwarf, so no metal armour.

    The Exiles

Started my next Exile, Gutter:- Did her skin (Rosy Skin > Flesh Wash > Rosy Skin > 1:1 Rosy Skin/Light Flesh) with 1:1:1:1 Rosy Skin/Light Flesh/Red Leather/Scarlett Red lips. Her skin is a little odd in places, particularly her arms, as there was a lot of flash and moldlines to clear away (I think people were being a little over ambitious casting Gutter in one piece), and I made a bit of a mess. That's also why her hands are going to be gloves, her fingers are a bit hit and miss. Made a start to her hair, it's 1:1 Hexed Lichen/Pure Black so far.

    A little and large shaman

Got into a bit of a weird mood last week, and wasn't going to finish the thread, but still took some piccys just in case, so quite a bit of progress to go over:- Painted up their breathing apparatus. The barrels are Parasite Brown > Brown Wash > 1:1 Parasite Brown/Ochre Yellow, there's Brassy Brass connectors and Andrea Blue tubes. Big Shaman also got some Sick Green tubes. Painted up their staff/axe/thingamajigs. The handles are Parasite Brown > Brown Wash > 1:1 Parasite Brown/Ochre Yellow, Oily Steel gear blades, the bones and skulls are 1:1 Iraqi Sand/Bonewhite > Brown Wash > Bonewhite, the wraps and things are Cork Brown, and the potion bottles have a Light Green bottom half, a Wolf Grey top half, Off-white highlights and Cork Brown corks (I was trying something new here and only do half full bottles, because they are all at weird angles, but I don't think it worked, it's hard to highlight Wolf Grey). Painted their (very out-of-focus) hand puppets. Robes = Magic Blue, face and hands = Squid Pink, mouth = Scarlett Red, hat = 1:1 Pure Black/Stone Grey, buttons = Bronze. Then an all over Black Wash, then I re-applied the base colours. Big Shaman also got some Leather Brown straps holding the puppet to his arm. Just got the rats to do.

Can't think of anything really stupid or embarrassing. It's probably a tie between falling backwards into a cactus as a clumsy 5 year old or slipping on some snow and breaking my arm as a clumsy 15 year old.

Sort of. I used to listen to music while I painted (or did pretty much anything else), but I had to cut back a lot on how often I had my headphones on (I was getting headaches). Not sure if it helped me get more done, but it did help me concentrate. Nowadays, I have the TV on when I paint, but that's only because I paint in the lounge where my housemate will be watching TV. Luckily we have very different tastes in TV shows, otherwise I'd be too distracted to get anything done!
