    Black Friday Deals

With their deadline past, I sent a polite 'Dude, where's my stuff?' e-mail to Steamforged. I'm not too worried about this one now, as they're doing one final metal production run next year now (apparently, if you discontinue most of your mini range without having replacements ready, you get a lot of people enquiring about where the heck they're supposed to get them from. Who'd have thunk it?).

    Mara and The Hookah

I've been trying to wean myself of doing WIP threads, but I've missed them So I present Mara Frostraven, evil knight (from Reaper) and The Hookah, a nameless Guardian of Set (from Twisted):- I made a bit of a mess with these two before, so at this point they've been assembled, based, primed, slightly painted, stripped, scrubbed and re-primed (and in Maras case re-assembled, her arms fell off in the paint stripper). Working on Maras armour first (since it involves drybrushing). On my first attempt, I did my usual Oily Steel scheme then tried to tint it blue with a thinned coat of Blue Ink, looked good to start but dried very unevenly. So on this new attempt, I started with a basecoat of 1:1 Night Blue/Oily Steel, then a layer of 1:1 Oily Steel/Blue Ink, then some Black Wash, then drybrushes of 1:1 Oily Steel/Blue Ink and pure Oily Steel. With Hookah, I messed up his face on my first attempt and it's so finely detailed I didn't want to risk painting over it. With this second attempt, I kept things very simple. The skin is Dwarf Flesh > Flesh Wash > Dwarf Flesh > 1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Light Flesh, with dots of Leather Brown for eyes and a tiny Stone Grey moustache (I think I'm going to have to do a bit more to this to make it stand out).
  3. Nope. I was planning to, but issues meant I couldn't place all three orders like I wanted to, then I couldn't decide which Christmas mini to leave out, so I spent my money on something else.

    Black Friday Deals

Also still waiting on my Steamforged order. They put out a message yesterday saying some orders containing certain Ltd. Edition Guildball minis (Roast, Ox and Obulous) will be late because they need to be remade or something. Don't have any in my order, but it's not stopping me getting increasingly anxious.
  5. Our tiny tabletop tree gets topped by a battery-powered, colour-changing, flashing star/spiky ball thing that's a bit too big for the job.

    Mara and The Hookah

Thanks. I've actually been looking forward to painting Hookah for quite some time (it was him and Huntress that sold me on Twisteds Egyptian faction). Progress:- Finished off her armour with decorations in Leather Brown>Bronze>Brown Wash>Bronze, and used the same scheme on her Shield of the Succubus (it generates a permanent 'Charm Person' spell effect around the bearer. I have no idea if that would make a decent magic item or not) Used the Bronze scheme on his official cultist party hat and steampunk wrist doohickey, both then got Magic Blue>1:1 Magic Blue/Off-white decorations. He also got a darker 1:1 Stone Grey/Pure Black moustache, a 2:1 Red Orange/Scarlett Red > Red Orange (with some Brown Wash in the deepest folds) headscarf and an Oily Steel mouthpiece and valve.

    Iron

Presenting Iron, a hard-hitting member of the Blacksmiths Guild Ball team. Managed to get stuck in a bit of a 'Paintings too hard, why bother' funk, so I needed an easy mini to get my groove back. I also painted up another bit of Guild Ball terrain, I think this one is a goal post. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    Stonehaven Dwarves Vol. 2

Wow, that's a massive step up sculpt-wise from the first lot of Dwarfs all those years ago (and those ones were still pretty dang good IMO). I might have to look at backing this now, even though I do still have some of those first Dwarfs to paint. Edit:- And backed. It's been ages since I've given a Stonehaven campaign more than a quick look over, and there's a load of minis I like in this one (I'm already looking forward to painting the Mexican Bandit Dwarf!). Sadly this uses up my Christmas mini money (Sorry Reaper).

The Reapermini Beta site for Europe.

Yep, made an account. It doesn't calculate the VAT until I choose a shipping option, so it knows I'm in the UK.

The Reapermini Beta site for Europe.

Discovered, not so much an issue, as an annoyance. When I put my minis in the basket, it uses the non-VAT price (so Christmas Eve is £8.34 instead of £10.02 for example) then adds the VAT on at the end. Problem is, the freebies and stuff are triggered by the non-VAT total, so essentially it costs me an extra £10 to get a 12 Days of Christmas mini. I get that this is a UK government thing and not down to Reaper, but it has pretty much messed up my spending plans. Oh well, it's not as if I really needed any Christmas minis.
  12. Gave Star Wars: The Last Jedi a watch. Thought it was a fairly decent movie if one of the weaker ones in the series. But it felt very much like the prequel films, so I can see why it's so divisive. And I still don't like that whiny dude.
  13. I still haven't watched Avengers: Infinity War yet

Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

Why do visitors always arrive at the worst time? Housemate and I were expecting a visit from a community nurse at some point over the next few days to see how we're coping. Of course she arrives early on the first day, before I've had a chance to tidy up and make the place look less hoarder-ish, and we're both sitting around in our PJs eating leftover pizza Mostly, I'm hoping when she was sitting next to my painting table she didn't notice my Kingdom Death Sunstalker mini and his "special tentacle".
  15. Watched Constantine - City of Demons yesterday. Thought it was pretty good, but could've done without the sex scene (I always find animated ones really weird and off-putting). Also found it pretty amusing the cartoon Constantine can smoke like a chimney, but his live-action version can't. Should be watching Star Wars - The Last Jedi some time over the weekend, I'll finally find out why it's so controversial.

    Black Friday Deals

They've got a little pop-up message on their webstore at the moment, basically apologising for the delay and stating they hope to get through their backlog of Black Friday orders by the 14th.
  17. Yes, this is why I have to leave any cheese in the fridge until the last possible moment.

Waiting for my Steamforged stuff too. Kind of anxious to see if my order is complete, so hopefully they send it out before their Dec 14th deadline.
  19. I used to when I was little (my copy of Watership Down is held together by sticky tape due to excessive re-reading), but nowadays I'm such a slow reader I just don't have the time to read anything a second time, even if I really liked it.
  20. If the UK site is also doing this, I could be tempted into three orders to nab Father Christmas, Winter Elf and Christmas Witch.
  21. Space issues has meant only a small fake tabletop tree for the last few years, but I don't think I've ever had a real tree at Christmas.
  22. D. Although technically it's my housemate sending the cards, I just write and post them. Nowhere near as many this year though, crossing everyone off the list who hadn't sent us a card in the last couple of years reduced it by about 2/3. I'm too lazy to take a pic, but the card I gave my housemate this year has two sausage dogs in Christmas jumpers with the slogan "Dachshund through the snow."
  23. You're welcome, although the Rat-catchers should be safe as they're one of the newer PVC sets. I probably got in a panic over nothing, it just seemed so weird that they were removing the sets from the webstore rather then just marking them sold out, but a company wouldn't can most of their product line without having replacements in place ...Would they?
  24. Panic purchased my last two Guild Ball teams:- Precision Made and The Lure of Gold. Was going to wait until next year, but discovered the manufacturer has removed most of the old metal teams from their webstore (including these two), and the Precision Made set wasn't in stock on any site I use, so I freaked out and grabbed both of Ebay.

Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

Amazon has gone crazy. Put in an order last week full of low-value items I'd been setting aside until I had enough to reach the free shipping threshold. On Saturday I received one bit, a small photo frame. Yesterday they sent out the next bit, a pair of colouring books. Today they've sent out a laundry basket. Still waiting on three items (lemon zester, food tongs and washing up bowl), so I'm curious about what they'll send tomorrow.
