    Bones 3 Naga

Reaper Bones 77511 Xiloxoch, Naga So I had grand plans for this mini; washes on the scales and NMM on the headpiece, but alas neither of those came to pass. Like usual, washes hate me, so after a wash attempt that ruined my previous effort at painting the scales, I ended up meticulously painting and shading each scale. I did successfully glaze on the scales at the very end for shading, so i call that a win. Moving on to my grand NMM plan. After painting every scale I was pretty sick of the mini, and it sat untouched for month. Then I had an incident of pouring way too much gold paint into my wet pallet by accident, and used that as an excuse to just finish the mini.

    77494 Dire Bear

Painted mainly just by drybrushing. The sculpt screamed grizzly bear, so I tried to emulate those colors. I think this is my quickest figure yet, and one of my favorites. Any advice and critiques are appreciated!
  3. These three pieces have been sitting around in a box for ages, I rediscovered them the other day and decided to just have at them. They really did not take more than a few minutes plus drying time each. 77136 Well of Chaos 77139 Altar of Evil 77137 Sarcophagus The well was filled with a drop of blue and a drop of unshaken green (=blotchy and stripey as the pigments had seperated alittle) vallejo paint. Just one drop directly from the dropper bottles into the well each, a very gentle stir and leave to dry. A little touch up around the edges and hey presto! I am pretty chuffed with the result. The stone is done by black undercoat, dark green/grey over that, heavily drybrushed with sandy yellow and lighter drybrush with offwhite. Differently coloured glazes help differentiate it a bit where needed.

    LTPK 77068 Anirion

My first figure of the year, and also my first speedpaint (AKA I tried not to get perfectionist over every detail) I followed the kit's instructions on the cloak, then did my own thing on the rest, which accidentally wound up being pretty similar to most of the other ltpk Anirions I've seen. This wasn't my favorite sculpt, and the mold lines were terrible, especially on her hand, but I was able to practice and learn a lot by painting her. Any critiques and advice for future figures are welcome and appreciated!
  5. So, since the RPChallenge Requests a Show-Off, here's my first point for this year! I'm really proud of her! I'm not sure which of the starting survivors she is, but... Better Pictures (edit): Critique would be appreciated. I will admit, I used too light a skin color for the OSL to look right over, and it is toned down enough that you can't really tell in person. I wanted to give the lantern a soft glow, rather than a bright one, to capture the hopelessness that is Kingdom Death.
  6. I'm kinda on time! Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72577-resolutionary-painting-challenge-2017-chatterquestions/ All the information you need should be here. Due to the revised format, there will be more than one bonus challenge available for this month. Including a "Hard mode" which Is some combination that may or may not have a source behind it. Your challenge is: 9! Bonus Challenge: The First! (Is this a re-hash? I don't recall.) Fall! Modify/paint a mini/minis to be falling/fallen. (Translate fallen how you will.) Bonus Challenge: The Second! December 14th is National Bouillabaisse Day. For those unfamiliar, this is a Fish Stew from southern France. Paint a mini that incorporates a fish motif. Hard Mode Challenge! Under Wraps: Paint a mini so that anything that any armor-weapons-cloth-etc looks like it's patterned wrapping paper. This is assuming a humanoid figure. Dragons or such apply the same challenge to the whole body. Stop the presses! Bonus, The third! With the breaking news of our beloved space pope leaving Reaper - let's see what you can paint up as a tribute to him. Bonus points for actually making a "bryanzilla" mini accurate to the avatar. Good luck The game is made up and the points don't matter
  7. [MOD]Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites. We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.[/MOD] Important Change! As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges. FAQ Reaper only? - No. If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes. Are speed paints acceptable - Yes. Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes. Based or unbased? - Yes. Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes. NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy (This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases) Medium and smaller = 1 ea Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota – rounded up Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures. If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. Thunderbird Emperor Ronin Simba Tiamat Katana Tyrant Starhawk Regent Cataphract Silverback Kraken If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually. Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little, to start painting more. You challenge begins...now! And Our Mantra: Participants: If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, you must post in the bi-monthly thread. The objective: To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota (each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list) What qualifies: Darn near anything! Reaper/non-reaper! Any material! Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten! Exchange minis! Speed paints! Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well) Any Size! Based/unbased! Etc! (I think that covers everything) Jan/Feb: 8: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72633-january-and-february-rpchallenge/ March/April: 9: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/73560-march-and-april-rpchallenge/ May/June: 9:http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/74744-may-ish-and-june-rpchallenge/ July/August: 9: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75639-july-and-august-rpchallenge/ Sept/Oct: 8: Nov/Dec: 9:http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/77730-novemberdecember-rpchallenge/ Again, I request that when tagging your posts, please use "RPChallenge" to help with locating minis from this. Initial post from mobile hoping it won't train wreck
  8. The 20 resin heroes from wave 1.5 of the Shadows of Brimstone kickstarter. I believe there are 12 or so more resin heroes and companions to come in wave 2. A note about the resin used. I see that there is a lot of internet-hate directed towards the resin models, mainly because of the greasy release agent used not being easy to remove, and that many people prefer plastic for ease of gluing and such. I think many of the complainers are boardgamers more than miniature modellists, which I certainly can see these models posing problems. My experience was that with a good scrub in warm soapy water, most of the release agent went away. A few of the models needed an extra coat of primer here and there, as I had not gotten the release grease properly off everywhere, but with that extra coat on I have had no problems. In this they are not really any worse than other resin models I have worked on. One problem was that many of the parts were small, and had very small gluing surfaces (e.g. wrists to arms) but I got them stuck together by using activator spray on the superglue to make it bond quickly. Luckily the resin is lightweight, so gluing a small joint is actually enough to hold the part. (Many of these would not have worked with metal miniatures!) I avoided the small feet being small gluing surfaces altogether by using the vent-sprue bits still attached to the feet of the models as pins to fix them to the bases by drilling matching holes in the bases and cutting the vents to size instead of all the way off.
  9. An old Ral Partha lady warrior I painted for the Morihalda Challenge. I'm happy with her eyes (only two tries!), but she seems kinda washed out in the pictures. I need to play with the light box more.

    Mega Minis giant frog/toad

This is a giant frog from Mega Minis (you can't get it from there any more, though. He sold the molds to another company; I'm not sure who) that I have painted up as an Ice Toad for use in FrostGrave games. Also part of my Morihalda Challenge.
  11. Chaoswolf

    06028 Plague Zombie

This is one of the figures from 06028 plague zombies. I painted him as part of my Morihalda Challenge, he's also going into my End Times project as a chaos marauder dedicated to Nurgle, the plague god. Table top painting, as usual.
  12. Chaoswolf

    Grenadier C'thulu-esque monster

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be; I got it as part of a figure lot on Ebay. Maybe an Otyugh? Maybe something C'thulu-ish? In any case I painted it for the Morihalda Challenge.
  13. Chaoswolf

    Grenadier Dwarf w/ 2h axe

This is an old Grenadier dwarf from their 'Fantasy Warriors' range/game. I initially wanted his eyes facing up towards his axe, but after goofing them up about 342,539 times, I decided to go with what I had. Tabletop painting for Morihalda Challenge.
  14. Chaoswolf

    Chain Mail wizard

This is an old wizard figure from the ChainMail game. I'm including him as part of my Morihalda Challenge; he was already painted, but I did some touch ups, and based him. I was having a bad day, but didn't want to break my streak, so I needed something quick and easy. Still trying to get the hang of playing with my wife's light box; he's a little washed out.
  15. The following images depict a miniature of a female sylph or fairy in natura. I am not sure if these would be in conflict with the posting guidelines or not. Better safe than sorry. First picture Second picture Third picture Clear minis are best painted by undercoating with a matte clear varnish and then transparent paints such as inks. This mini has wings in vallejo pale grey wash before citadel carroburg crimson wet blended on drucii violet. Body in thinned old citadel turquoise glaze, hair and panties in army painter green ink. The eyes are the only bits painted with normal opaque paint. As this mini does not seem to be released as of yet, I do not know who sculpted it or what it's code or official name is.

    Repainted Mage Knight Tree Spirit

I forget exactly what this figure is called, but it's another old Mage Knight figure that I have repainted. I think it would work well as a (small) evil treant. I'd have to go through the Monster Manual, but I'm sure that there are other plant monsters this would work as, too. Tabletop paint job as usual. ETA---Forgot to mention, this is part of my Morihalda challenge (do art every day in December).
  17. Yup, what is says. Challenge accepted! First comes the Dragon, then come the Timestamp. Then the Dice Rolls of Destiny to decide on colours: Cloudy Gray, Earth Brown and Violet Red. Not bad at all. That could have gone so much more ...shall we say garish?. well anyway, as I don't have very many Reaper paints (not available in any store, not to mention continent) near me, I will make do with as similar as I can get from my other paints: and I see my cloudy grey is backwards so you can't see the name on the lable in this shot...so here is the other shot: Vallejo Tierra / Earth should be a good match for Earth Brown according to the paint range colour comparison spreadsheet. Red Violet? The spreadsheet did not really help that much as I don't really have that many of the other ranges there either. I mostly have Army Painter and a lot of older (15 years +) citadel, gamecraft and other such randomness. I hope the Citadel Fire Dragon Crimson (from the earliest round pots with flip top caps -I poured all my old paints in to dropper bottles a couple years ago.) is close enough. Seems like it should be ok based on the colour in the spreadsheet. It is a reddish violet any ways. And really old. Hope it still is useable or else I will have to mix something up. And of course, Ebonwrath was undercoated black ages ago, as I undercoated everything black in those days. As pure black is one of the permitted colours, and the black will for the most part be painted over, I think that should be OK. So the challenge is to paint Ebonwrath with ONLY these three colours, with black and white permitted for mixing. no other colours, no inks or quickshades. This should be different...

    Grenadier lizard/dragon dog...

I'm not entirely sure what this is supposed to be; I got it in a group of figures that I bought on Ebay. I know it's by Grenadier, and that's it. I painted this up as part of my Morihalda challenge; to a (hopefully) decent tabletop standard. Those eyes were tons of fun.
  19. Bombshell Miniatures 10050 Celeste the Sorceress, sculpted by Kev White. I wanted a simple mini with few accessories to paint up as a quick little project, so I picked Celeste for her clean lines. As a bonus I used some of the Breastcancer Awareness Pink I have multiple bottles of. Spent maybe 3 hours on her.

    Grenadier Troll

This is an old Grenadier miniatures troll that I dug out of the lead mountain and gave a quick, tabletop level paint job to. I hope you like him. I slathered Modge Podge all over his base to make it look like he's hanging out in a swamp. I may have made him too dark; this is the best picture I could manage to get of him...
  21. This figure was meant for the fall beauty contest, but I was way slow and finished just a week or so ago.
  22. This is an old mage knight figure I stripped (yes, it is possible. Not easy, but possible. It's also not always worth the time and energy involved) and then repainted. Painted to table top. Let me know what you think. Better view of the base. Yes, it's got eyes, and they're painted!
  23. For the Company of Wolves: A real live one: This is the 77437 Winter Wolf from the third Reaper Bones kickstarter. And about the size of a horse, so I think of it as a werewolf’s full wolf form. Or a Dire Wolf as needs be. Miniature sculpted by Sandra Garrity. Bespoke 50x25mm 3D printed base. and the real dead ones Two pairs of 77533 Dread Wolves from the Graveyard Expansion from the Bones 3 KS. One pair brown and one pair grey. Ended up rather samey…Too dark perhaps. Bespoke 35x25mm 3D printed bases. In the immortal words of Lord Flashheart: "Woof Woof!"
  24. The minis from The Gluttony Expansion for The Others 7 Sins boardgame. aka The Greater Deamon of Bloated Body Horror. I call him Tetsuo. 40mm base. and his little mini me’s, the Abominations: I call them the six little pigs. 25mm bases. The Controller of Gluttony I call her Leeloo. 25mm base. All of these are made in board game plastic / Rigid PVC The Others 7 Sins is published by CMON / Guillotine Games with miniatures by Studio McVey.

    Grenadier Bugbear

This is an old Grenadier bugbear that I started before Reapercon, and finished up last night as part of Inarahs' weekend painting binge. Painted to my usual tabletop standard, mostly in between waiting for my con projects to dry. Let me know what you think.
