  1. Got my base coats on and a top glaze on the back..
  2. So - my next small project - I cannot keep with just one ... errrr. After having a small but nice talk with @SGHawkins09 and being sent home by the doc to cure a sickness I recently picked up, I had to decide what to do next. As all those wonderful and enthusiatic responses to my previous projects (I mean it - I never had so much response in such a short time) made it near to impossible to just sign off from the forums and disappear into the wilderness, I agreed to take on a different plan. I just grabbed into my miniature box and took some figures to paint them and get them done. And then it struck me: I am at the Reaper Forums yet I missed to paint a Reaper miniature. So I picked out ... errr - let me see ... Troll Slayer Sophie! Yay! - hey! Hooooraaay! Who the heck is Troll Slayer Sophie and when did I buy her? It seems I already started to paint her, but then decided otherwise, stripped *chuckles* her and put her away. Hm. Good point to start her all over again. As I chose her to be the figure I wanted to paint next I had to think about the color scheme I wanted to use. Well. I had no idea. I never really cared about fantasy style, so it never meant anything to me. The things I know about are modern or sci fi. I played a lot of Warhammer40k back in the days. I even wrote fanfiction stories which included the Imperial Guard and the Sisters of Battle ... ... Sisters of Battle ... hm. that could make a great colour scheme. Works well with the flesh tones and still contrasts it. And as Sophie is a demon, the demon/witch hunter theme fits her rather perfectly. I'll take it! Well then - primed her and started painting. But I am not sure - do I want to give her skin the grim dark appearance of an Adepta or a more Succubi-like appearance like ... this one: Succubus Suggestions?
  3. Ghool

    Blood Bowl Troll

    A Troll for Blood Bowl, as chosen by my Patrons. Pretty fun to paint, but 19 pieces for a single model is...ridiculous? Also tough to photo - all the deep, crossing-over parts cast big shadows, and in order to light them you get major hotspots elsewhere. I feel he turned out pretty nice.
  4. Mutilatedlips

    Marsh Troll - 02609

    I don't usually use so much gloss varnish and not the most exciting array of colors, but I think I captured what a wet, stinky, dirty ol' swamp troll should look like.
  5. Silver Jack

    Troll

    Hi, I had a painting crisis, I have started ten models and I coudnt finish anything, but today i had to paint model for my friend because he is going for tournament in few days. I dont know the company which made this model but I told my friend he must buy this troll because its totally matching to rest of his warband (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62870-umbra-turris-orc-team/)
  6. Here are my next two guys I'm trying to crank out to catch back up on the RP challenge. Cave Troll Champion: The base coat for the skin is Reaper Brilliant Green, working up to Viper Green for the highlights and down to Peacock Green for the shadows. I don't really have the layering on the skin quite the way I want it though. I'm going to take a break and do the eyes and mouth before I worry about finalizing that. The club is a base coat of Vallejo Model Color Flat Earth washed with Vallejo Model Color Smoke. The mouth is just a sloppy base coat of Reaper Imperial Purple. The little spots on the club and foot where the paint got nicked by well-meaning in-laws trying to clear the table for dinner have since been touched up. Ogre Chieftain: I see a lot of white/tan/gray ogres, so I wanted to try something a little different and go with a darker skin tone. This is just the base coat, it's Vallejo Model Color Chocolate Brown. C&C welcome, thanks in advance!

    Talisman 4th Edition Troll

    I was able to finish the remaining figures from the Talisman 4th Edition Core set. Here's the Troll
  8. Ok I totally forgot to take WIP pictures so straight to the show off forum for this guy. This is my first weapon convert as well. I had an Axe from a lego character lying around and thought the poor Marsh Troll really needed something to kick his act into the next level so out came the knife and here is the result. The swamp base has no water effects on it as I don't own any.. so hopefully it passes muster. First the front view taken with and without a flash just to see the difference then the sides and a close up then the back (not that exciting) then front from above Enjoy and crtiques are expected and welcome.
  9. Mountain Troll The Skull Collector This Mountain Troll, sculpted by Ben Siens, is inspired by the Abomination from Marvel Comics as seen in the early years of the Incredible Hulk. The Abomination has an interesting overall look to his skin. It's scaly and leathery, and naturally, green for a gamma irradiated monster. The back muscles of the miniature immediately reminded me of the Abomination so I ran with it. You can see for yourself how the artists drew and colored him... copyright Marvel As per usual, Ub3r N3rd complained that there weren't enough SKULLZ on the last miniature I posted so this one's all about the SKULLZ! Using some loose skulls from Toad King Castings as well as a trio on a flat piece, I built a skull pile of freshly peeled human sized skulls. I placed one in the corner for the one that rolled away a bit. And in his hand, the Skull Collector has an ogre skull to add to his growing pile. I used paints from Reaper Miniatures, mainly the Moss Triad as his skin tones, my recently acquired Army Painter Warpaints, some Scale 75 metallic paints for the armor and axe and a few Vallejo paints. The troll is mounted on a piece of slate with his integral base merged with sand and ballast to bring the terrain level. The bush and vines are both created from moss. To see most everything done to him, check out his WIP. He's joining my Joten Horde for mashing the adventurers. Enjoy. Check him out in the Inspiration Gallery. 10. Okay, following the finale of the Copper Dragon ... Soonâ„¢ ... I will start this guy. In between efforts on finishing Gauntfield and the Dragon, I've taken to cleaning the troll. I'll spray a new coat of primer on him shortly and base coat him. Stay tuned.

    Cave Troll - #03382

    Had some trouble getting his face to focus with that rather large proboscis he's sporting. Of course, quite a bit of that is probably my camera (Galaxy S7) and lighting (still only using one light source in addition to the flash on the phone). Went with a base coat of Green Ochre, then since that didn't come out green at all, layered a 3:1 mix of Shadow Green/Green Ochre over it - thinned down so that it didn't do a complete covering. For my first multi-hued skin attempt, I think it came out okay. I did another pseudo mix of colors for his furs, trying for the dirty look - mixed an equal part of black, chestnut brown, grey and leather brown, but didn't mix them completely, which had the intended effect, I think.
  12. Last night (12/19/2016) I was hanging out in the Reaper Google Hangouts. I've been wanting to do another variation on this particular piece, kind of a Frost Troll bit. So, I grabbed my brushes and set out to create a chilling version of the Cave Troll. Overall, I am super pleased with how he came out. Again, I am trying to get away from relying heavily on premade washes, and instead trying to layer more. This my first attempt at so much skin (albeit blue not flesh tone) and using layering. I think it came out well. The loin cloth was my attempt at making a "skin" type loin cloth, not just some treated leather. I was going for a fleshy tone. Special thanks to Guindyloo for her advice on how to go about trying to get the look I wanted. The base is just the regular base, but I put down static grass first, then covered it with snow. I like how it came out. Thanks for looking, and as always, C&C are welcomed. CAH

    02127 :: Giant Mountain Troll

    Giant Mountain Troll The Old Troll and the Boar I cleaned, repaired and repainted a long time baddy from our gaming sessions, Reaper's Giant Mountain Troll. He had fallen to the floor a few times over the years and had a gloss coat instead of a matte coat for a sealer. So he was quite due for the treatment. Given his look and feel, I decided to paint him as an older troll. His skin is duller. His hair receding considerably. He hasn't fought anyone in a long time. Even the boar for his dinner wasn't much of a hunt. So he's kept his clothing in relatively good repair and found and made some better furs to wear. He still prefers his old stone axe. He was happy to find some stone laced with mithral to make a new axe head for it though. You can check out the WIP post to see everything I did to get him here. WIP The ol'boy will return to the carry case to stand before those pesky fellas from yonder cities and protect his mountain or wherever he gets plopped down. Enjoy. Check him out in the Inspiration Gallery. (Approved) Added to Thrym's Index of Reaper Miniatures & Thrym's General Show Off List

    03407 :: Hellborn Troll

    Hellborn Troll On a Plane of Volcanic Glass This brute of a troll obviously has some extraplanar blood coursing through his veins. He walks the the wasteland of his abyssal home across sheets of volcanic glass that stretch unending. Dust flows around his footsteps and he holds aloft a large shard of the glass to summon his clan with his demonic power. This Warlord miniature is pretty friggin awesome and was waiting on further inspiration to get from the shelf of shame pack in to my queue. I told him no for some time. There is quite a bit of real dust ingrained with the sand on his base. But with my recent ... lets be optimistic and call it ... flood of painting he finally made it back to the fore. You can check out the WIP post to see everything I did to get him here. WIP He shall now join the ranks of his fellow giant-kin to stand against the machinations of those grievous creatures who call themselves "adventurers." Enjoy. Check him out in the Inspiration Gallery. (approved) Added to Thrym's Index of Reaper Miniatures & Thrym's General Show Off List
  15. My long time generic bad guy, the Giant Mountain Troll by Sandra Garrity, came out of the carry box to get cleaned, repainted, and repaired. His nose suffered a long drop to the floor flattened his bulbous nose considerably. Here's his stock photo from the catalog: Here he is with his paint cleaned off with Simple Green double dip and his nose filed back to sort of bulbous. Since he was well and truly beat down, I decided to make him my next piece with Lunkh being finished and the Hellborn Troll being mostly done. Stay tuned.

  17. Howdy, From the Green Rage module... Bad hombre, Kev!

    Lidless Eye Hobbies: Blood Rage

    After many distractions and other projects, I've finally finished my set of miniatures from the "Blood Rage" board game by CMoN. I've been working on them on and off (mostly off) for over a year...the first few Giants were finished over a year ago according to my Facebook memories. I've posted some of the monsters before, but I figured I'd put them in this Show Off as well as part of the set. First, we have the Gods of Asgard: Odin: Heimdall: Tyr: Frigga: Thor: Loki:
  19. In the Frostgrave rendom encounter tables one of the options are two snow trolls at once. I did the blue Ice Troll a while ago and have been looking at this model to make it a compaion ever since. The time had come Slightly larger, with much more armour and an axe (which refused to stay straightened. Not surprizing as it was a veritable noodle when it arrived.) And yeah. I think it works next to the other one. For comparison: ...well, at least they are of the same general body type and size... 77333: Mountain Troll Reaper Bones KS2 Bonesium PVC 50mm base

    Troll (Pathfinder) - 60021

    This sculpt is the closest I have seen to what I always think a troll should look like. So awesome looking, and something personal I really wanted to paint for quite some time now. Yes, I do like pearly white teeth and claws. Something about the whiter the teeth the scarier with me.
  21. Schmetterling WIP Two steps visible here. Original base coats of color with some shading and then working up with more highlights and finer details. I need to use a dedicated camera and lighting setup. Pretty sure my iphone camera has damage to the lens and the poor lighting is obscuring details. Sorry about that.
  22. Werewolvians

    Blood Rage: Mystic Troll (KS exclusive)

    Though I think the original artwork for this guy is way better than the figure, this guy is still pretty cool.
  23. I painted up the Bones 2 Mountain Troll, and also recently did speed paints of two Mega MIniatures dog miniatures since one of the players in my D&D game seems to like using Summon Nature's Ally spells to summon dogs to help, and I wanted to have a couple of them painted for our next game.
  24. As I threatened last week, here is another batch of old enamel paintjobs from around 15-25 years ago. Troll Firbolg Mind Flayers Gnolls Owlbear Basilisk Xorn Finally, some fairies linked here in case anyone has a problem with a teeny-tiny glimpse of fairy flesh.
  25. As you are probably already aware, there is an official Middle-earth D&D 5e setting being released this Summer by Cubicle 7. This will no doubt create strong demand for figures for people's campaigns. I've noticed there are numerous figures already in production that will adapt well. The orcs in KS3, the Mountain Troll in KS2 (a tad Jackson-esque, but perfect for a big Olog-Hai or the like: MORE OF THESE!), the ogres in KS3 (perfect Tom, Bert, and William-MORE PLEASE!), the Balor from KS2 makes a passable Balrog (assuming Balrogs have wings), many dwarves, etc. This is only natural, as D&D is substantially derivative of Tolkien and Reaper's choice of subject matter is substantially derivative of D&D. Now obviously, lacking a license, nothing would be official, and trademarked names would be verboten. However, with this firmly in mind, my question is this: a) which figures already in production do you think work best as Middle-earth characters, monsters, etc., and b) what would you like to see to fill out the traditional Middle-earth bestiary in any potential KS4 or LE KS, bearing in mind that as the actual number of different species of monsters will be more limited, a variety of weaponry, poses, armour, sexes, and the like will be important
