    02316: Brom the Barbarian

I'd been working on this guy on and off for a month or two to use in Frostgrave, but finished him in a final push a couple of weeks ago. Awesome sculpt, full of character. Had a real go at putting lessons from Clever Crow's shaded metallics class at ReaperCon into practice with his sword, and I'm confident in saying it's the best damn sword that I've ever painted. Perhaps I may finally answer the Riddle of Steel... I'm also quite happy with how is hair turned out, though I think it may still be reading as grey rather than black, particularly from the front. There are a few spots on the shading and highlighting of his musculature that I could touch up looking back at the photos, but overall I'm pleased. Time to go break some skulls in the snow!

    What I painted in 2015 by Xherman1964

Since more people are showing off what they did last year, here are mine: Minis I painted in 2015. ( seems I have been busy) I will link them so you can check them out. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66228-54mm-maria-roseblade-pirate-queen-by-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65908-pumpkin-witches-and-their-house-by-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65484-legendarion-hyena-warrior-bust-gebhuza-by-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/64977-zombicide-survivor-dog-painted-as-my-boxer-brutus-by-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/63196-bonnie-chonoscope-by-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60500-77117-vandorendra-snake-demon-bones/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/63938-kabuki-bust-ky-ra-female-barbarian-16-scale-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61631-xherman1964-paints-a-ral-partha-hill-troll/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62215-beloved-of-sobek-by-xherman1964-crocodile-games/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61632-stygian-guardian-chronopia/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61214-77100-vanja-fire-giant-queen-bones/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60959-undead-regiment-in-a-swamp-mixed-manufacturers/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60445-zombie-grenadier-horseman/

    Ral Partha female barbarian

This is an old Ral Partha barbarian from 1984. Simple, tabletop paint job as usual; I did do her skin a slightly darker tone, though. I figured if she spends any appreciable amount of time outside in that outfit, she'd be a little darker. Please let me know what you think.

    Gourls Paints Goldar 77047

Hey all! It's been a bit since I've been able to paint up anything. I started back to school and between that, the requisite homework accompanying it, and working (as well as trying to make time to see people and sleep somewhere in there) my painting has fallen by the wayside. I've had a little more freetime that I didn't spend doing other things here lately though, and one of the beneficiaries of that was Goldar here. I (like I'm sure others) envisioned him as a D&D goliath. I considered trying to freehand some tattoos on him, but I was too scared to try it and just left him as-is. Maybe one day I'll make an attempt. Sorry for the less-than-stellar photos here. Did them with my phone under a kitchen light (not the light I paint by -- but close).
  6. Here is the show-off thread for Torgils "The Black Wolf," he's from the Catacombs ulule (French Kickstarter) that I got a few months ago. I've finished him up to enter into the contest ran by Catacombs, but he's also part of a much larger Diorama, so the diorama WIP thread will stay open until I'm done with the rest of the build and figures. I decided earlier today to go ahead and modify his shield to give him a black wolf insignia upon it on a field of red. Was a really fun project, I love this barbarian. Figure: Torgils Sombre Loup (Torgils "The Black Wolf") Manufacturer: Catacombes Le Règne Sombre (FaceBook link) Sculptor: Fancagne Didier Scale: 32mm Material: Resin WIP Thread Here's the link to the Facebook Contest up on Catacombs' page so if you like him and want to vote for me, I'd be appreciative. https://www.facebook.com/catacombes.leregnesombre/posts/756765611112973 C&C are always welcomed and greatly encouraged!

    Xchange Mini for Wolfie###

So, This is my Exchange Mini I sent to wolfie### for the Fall Exchange. The Inspiration for this was his love of Cold Weather and Barbarian's, Especially Conan! So, as for the Why this miniature, I have been Catching up on the "Dungeons and Randomness Podcast" and I was thinking that this Mini was a Perfect "Drock" armed with his Legendary Greataxe "Stormrender". For that Podcast's world, Drock is its Conan. Much better than my first idea, "Kobold the Barbarian" :P Now, On with the Pics! These first three Pictures are some early work in progress ones. These two were taken at my FLGS, Gatehouse Games with assistance from fellow Forumite Marsya. She also helped me with some advice and a couple of helpful things. And here are final pictures before packing it up. Well, make with the Comments. I cannot wait for everyone to find all the mistakes and stuff I missed:P GF

Brom The Wanderer from Scale 75

Happy Labor Day weekend folks! Last week I completed Brom the Wanderer from Scale 75 for a client. He had a specific look he wanted, and even had some photos of a similar paint job. We settled on price and time alloted to this project, and here he is! The rocks are cork and greenstuff, with some sand and small stones in between. The lava was created using SceneARama realistic water. All mounted on a wooden base. Hope you like him. Thanks for looking!
  11. Another victory against my unpainted pile, this is Belegast the Bloodthirsty (the new version). I'd like to thank uber_n3rd, Jasonator and Guindyloo for the feedback I recieved in the wip thread.

Rollo the Barbarian, Red Box Games

Been a while since I've had something to post here! I give you the barbarous Rollo, sculpted by Tre Manor: My first attempt at TMM! Hope you enjoy, WIP was on my blog at cashwiley.com.
  13. Changed out the axe head for a big hammer to make Wulfgar.

Rollo the Fellhanded, Red Box Games

This is Rollo the Fellhanded from Red Box Games. I notice now that the pictures contain quite alot of white dots, that's because I did a poor job with the spray on matt varnish. It usually looks much better but on this figure I failed to get a even spray :/ Also the face got abit to much so I had to sort of fix it. It wasn't a master piece before but I do think it looked abit better. But varnishing mistakes aside I'm fairly happy with how he turned out.

Woldvagner the Elder, Red Box Games

Woldvagner the Elder from Red Box Games. I have stared to delve into my RBG collection. I'm moderately happy with how this figure turned out. I really need to work on the eyes for future RBG miniatures. I feel that something might be missing but I can't put my finger on it.
  16. A few months ago I attended a little two-day workshop, which was hosted by a talented Swedish commission painter named Martin Lindblom (http://amongtheway.com). This little event was sooo much fun for me, it's actually the first time I've ever painted in the company of others, and I'll certainly try to attend more of these types of things in the future. The workshop was centered mostly around two themes: "NMM" and "skin tones", and everyone got to bring their own mini. I chose Wolf, a mostly naked dude with a big sword from Hasslefree Miniatures. This was the first time I attempted NMM, and I had time to try both steel as well as a little gold on the hilt of the sword; it was really nice to have a teacher present to help me figure out where to put the shadows and highlights as I worked. It was a lot of fun to try this out, and I'm happy with the results I got. Honestly, I think my preference for most painting is still TMM as I think by my hands it looks a bit more realistic (Martin, as can be seen at his webpage I linked above, can of course achieve some absurdly realistic looking NMM). I could definitely see myself using this if I wanted a more over-the-top look though, like on a heroic paladin's sword or something. Hope you like him, and C&C is of course always extremely welcome!

Red Box Games Helsvakt Axe Warrior

I finished another from my WIP shelf - a barbarian from Red Box Games, using the RMS Fair Skin Triad and the flesh wash. I don't really use the wash as a wash, more of a glaze over the basecoat of Fair Skin Shadow, then I blend in another layer of Fair Skin shadow before layering up from there. Hope my fellow fans of Tre's work enjoy it! Also, stuck with the yellow background for now but I hope its less distracting on this miniature since it's tones are different.

    Goldar, Male Barbarian

This is Reaper Bones figure Goldar, Male Barbarian, which I painted for fun.
  19. Loratham's Conquest He stood upon the outlook, his clear blue gaze staring out at the hoard arrayed before him. He welcomed the challenge, his enemies would fall before him and he'd bath in their blood. He was first among his tribe of Goliaths, the King of the clans and he relished any challenge that would face him. The orcs before him would present only a challenge in their numbers, none could stand before him in single combat... He snarled and tapped his great axe against his right palm, ready for the battle... --------------------------------------------------------------- Originally, I was doing this figure for one of my D&D members, but that member has since left the group and the figure became my personal little project for fun. I love this figure and had a lot of enjoyment painting him up and working on his base. Spent about 12 hours on him total I'd guess. Puts him at high tabletop+ for me, nearing my low display quality. Figure: Loratham, The Lost and Then Found Manufacturer: Enigma Miniatures Series: Massive Darkness SKU: ENM3029 Sculptor: Raúl García Latorre Size: 38mm to the eyes, 40mm to the top of the head Material: Metal WIP Thread C&C are welcomed and greatly appreciated! Thank you for looking!

    Red Box Games Helsvakt

Finally finished these last week but didn't get around to posting them for some reasons. Painted to table top/just above table top standard for me. C&C welcome.

    77251: Bloodhoof, Minotaur Barbarian

Here is the first of the two minis I entered into the painting contest at gencon This was my first attempt at greenstuffing a base and I'm fairly happy with it. Unfortunately I failed to get all the mold lines off of this guy as I spotted the on the top of his axe too late. I also painted the other minotaur from the set but he didn't get quite finished in time. I'll likely post him soon as he is almost done. Of the two though I like this one the most. Still trying to figure out the best way to take pictures and this guy was being a real elf about it for some reason. Hopefully some of these look ok.

    A Bloodreaver

AKA a Chaos Marauder, (everything needs a new name apparently):- Was figuring out the colour scheme for the Chaos half of my Age of Sigmar set, ended up so pleased with the final result I thought he deserved showing-off! (IMO I think I did a really good job on his muscles) Will have to paint more bare-chested dudes in future. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, most appreciated.
  23. Lidless Eye

    Lidless Eye Hobbies visits Frostgrave

As soon as I saw the multipart plastic kit, I knew "Frostgrave" was another game I'd have to check out. Having recently finished some of the pieces that came with my "Nickstarter" order, I knew I'd made the right choice. I haven't quite decided how I wanted the bases to be (especially since the metal guys can't stand up right on their own), so they're just stained grey for the moment. First off, we have the metals, including the Apothecary, Enchanter Apprentice, Barbarian, and Santa Claus (or maybe an Enchanter Wizard, it's hard to tell)

    60115 - Shoanti Barbarian Show-Off

I just finished up on this one, I did it as a small commission and favor for one of my D&D buddies who will use this particular figure for his Tuesday night games. Slight modification with a weapon head swap from the original earth breaker to the axe head. Painted it up in about 5-6 hours today, I call it table top+ as there are some things on here beyond a normal tabletop job and I wanted to get it done fairly quickly. Name: Shoanti Barbarian Manufacturer: Reaper Miniatures SKU: 60115 Sculpted by: Gene Van Horne Material: Metal WIP Thread C&C are welcomed and appreciated! His face close-up, it's hideous!
  25. So the mailman just brought this AWESOME piece to my door. This is the summer exchange that Ub3r_N3rd did for me. I think it's absolutely incredible; if you're involved with the 'Randomness' threads at all, there's a lot of Easter eggs in this piece for you to find. Ub3r did a really great job with this, I'm kind of at a loss for words to describe my happiness. Anyway, enough of my gushing, here's the pics: Ub3r_N3rd will be along shortly to add some more pics or link to the ones he took during the building/painting process, check back, I'm sure they'll be better than mine. Thanks again, Ub3r_N3rd.
