  1. Yep, it is time. The players are getting awfully close to the point in my game where Kaly will be necessary. Minor spoilers for Paizo's Wrath of the Righteous adventure path: So general color scheme for an undead silver dragon: Warm, dirty bone colors for the bones, blues for the squishy bits on the body, blue/silver for the wing membranes, dirty, scorched, broken stones for the base. The roolz: Added link to official rules: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69639-7-day-goblin-challenge-official-rules/#entry1396460 1. Brushes should be size 0 or no bigger than 1 mm round and 10 mm long. They must only start this size and may be clipped, crushed, and otherwise mutilated during the course of the challenge. 2. The challenge shall run for 7 consecutive days or 168 consecutive hours. 3. The only prep work allowed before the timer is boiling and washing of the model. All alteration and assembly will be done after the timer starts. 4. The challenge will begin with a post of Kaly along with a clock showing the local date and time. The timer runs out at the same time 7 days later. The preparations: Cleaned model The brushes with handy measuring device The paints (at least the starting ones. The idea is to reduce the time I spend digging for that one bottle I think I need) Pictures added.
  2. I painted Kaladrax in 7 days using only Size 0 brushes, and found to my great astonishment that I actually enjoyed it a lot, despite how gruelingly difficult it was. So, I've decided to do it all over again, this time with Khanjira! BUT...I thought I'd shake things up a bit. Y'see, I realized that buglips, the one who started this whole thing, has yet to paint up HIS Khanjira. Given that Khanjira is part of his Challenge and all, I rather think it's time that happened. So, with that said.... Buglips! *dramatic pointing pose* I'm officially challenging you to a 7-day Goblin Challenge Khanjira paint-off!!! *pulls off a dainty little kitty gauntlet and throws to the ground in front of her with a tiny (piff)* Er...that was a lot more impressive in my head. So, what do you say? Care to cross brushes in an epic duel to determine the fate of the universe? Or are yeh...bloo? EDIT: The Challenge has been accepted! It has been decided that 4:00 PM Pacific time on Wednesday the 27th will be the official start time. ******************* HERE IS THE LINK TO THE OFFICIAL WIP THREAD: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/70023-were-both-crazy-oneboot-and-buglips-paint-khanjira-in-7-days-wip-thread/?p=1409582 ******************* Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  3. For those of you unfamiliar with The Great Kaladrax Painting Challenge, initiated by buglips*the*goblin, here's a link to his thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip Feel free to boggle at the insanity of it for a bit, I'll wait. ... ... ... All done? Okay, so, being not entirely sane myself, I've decided to give it a go. I will be following the same rules buglips followed in his challenge, namely: 1) No using a brush larger than a standard Size 0 (no getting around it by using, say, a size 0 brush meant for house painting, for example) 2) I will work on Kaladrax for no more than 168 consecutive hours (7 full days) 3) The only prep time allowed before the timer starts is boiling and cleaning to remove casting residue. Removing (or not) mold lines is part of the challenge! 4) When I begin, I will post a picture of Kaladrax with my phone displaying the date and time (I don't get the newspaper) ...That's it, really. Pretty simple. I will endeavor to make semi-regular updates, but when I get deep into PaintingLand, I can lose track of time. I will, however, be very good about taking awful WIP pictures as I go, then at least doing a batch picture post each day. I've timed this so Mr. Boot is gone at a work conference about half of the 7 days, so I will have a little more free time than usual. So! Feel free to come along for the ride. I can't promise to be on here super often (or maybe I will be, who knows), but I can promise that the trip will at least be entertaining. If you'd rather just skip to the end, here's my official completion post with pictures: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68762-oneboot-is-crazy-too-kaladrax-in-7-days-wip/&do=findComment&comment=1371410 Final show-off pictures: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69015-kaladrax-reborn-in-7-days-by-oneboot/ Note: Unless otherwise specified, all of the paints used are Reaper brand paints. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  4. So while nattering away on the Google Hangout that Guindyloo set up for the Memorial Day Painting Binge, He got finished.... I think he came out pretty good, nothing I would consider more than a high end Table Top.... Not really pleased with his eyes, but after the third or fourth repaint, I said to Hades with it.... WiP Here Thanks For Looking! George

    GW Tangerine Goblin Archer

So I painted this a couple weeks back. I was looking for something in my boxes of shame that I could paint up quickly without regret. When I came across this guy, I was inspired to get out my Ral Partha paints. Others on this forum are in love with their partha paints. I myself remember them being a bit chalky and pastel. If you notice one of those colours above is called "Goblin Flesh", it's a colour closely resembling a pale Tangerine. Goblins in D&D weren't always green. In the 1st ed Monster manual their skin colour was described as ranging from yellow through dull orange to brick red, with reddish to lemon yellow eyes. Where did this almost ubiquitous notion that all goblins are green come from? That I don't know, but I suspect the Green Goblin to be somewhat implicated. Since historical accounts don't seem to depict them as green. With all this in mind, I decided to dust off my partha paints, and try them out by making a 'correctly' coloured goblin, which you see below. Huzzah! Hope you enjoy!
  6. So since I only had 3 main projects and the diorama going, I am starting something else! This is Maglubiyet, Chief Deity of Goblins and Hobgoblins, who made his first appearance in the old 'Deities and Demi-Gods' from AD&D first edition... Maglubiyet is described as a giant (11 feet tall), black-skinned goblin with flaming eyes, powerfully-muscled arms and sharp talons. He is said to wield a mighty coal-black battleaxe that constantly drips blood. The mini is pretty cool, nicely cast with few mold lines, one of which I found while doing the initial base coat, of course... So here he is with a base coat of MSP Blue Liner: The eyes are gonna be fun.... If I had a couple more of these, I think they would make awesome statues for next to the doors of a temple... George
  7. So here are the mighty Goblins, painted more than 25 years after their brethren.... Just goes to show that even and old fool can learn a thing or two.... Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: So there you have them! Tried a little bit of shading on the metals of the weapons, using Decay Black where zenithal light would be absent, don't know how much it helps... And for minis that have been used in countless AD&D games since they were painted, the old ones still don't look too bad.... Comments welcome! WiP here Thanks for looking! George
  8. I interrupt my other works in progress to bring you this special Project. But George, those guys are already done, you are thinking.... And you would be right! I painted these guys when I was in college, back in the early 90s, using the Polly S & Ral Partha AD&D Paint Lines... And seem to have missed the fact that the guy with the 2 handed mace is wearing some sort of skull cap! But now, I have 5 more! Thanks to another forumite that was going to use them as weight for the melt tables at R Con, he was kind enough to let me save them from the abyss... So it will be fun to see what this group will look like, with all of the things I have learned from my fellow forumites in the last 9 months, and using Good brushes, a wet palette, Scale 75 paints, Reaper and Vallejo, and yes, Polly S AD&D 460 Goblin Flesh! Come back and see when I get more than primer on them! (They are also Goblin Flesh practice for the Infamy Goblin Chieftain on the Death Chicken....) George
  9. So, along the lines of the Great American Hero, what song would you recommend to use for the northern version of Buglips, The Great Canadian Hero!? One that I can think if is "I drink alone!" by George Thoroughgood remade to be "I paint alone!"....

Dragons Don't Share 2 In Seven Days!

Ladies and Gentlemonsters! The time is nigh! Repent thy... wait, no, that's next week. This week it's time for Buglips is Crazy Part III - Dragons Don't Share 2 in SEVEN DAYS! So far I'm 50/50. I have Kaladrax in Seven Days (completed): http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip/ And Cthulhu in TWO days because I got cocky, and he kicked my butt: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/52091-cthulhu-in-twothulhu-buglips-is-phnwagh-fhtramw-2/ This challenge is sponsored by ReaperBryan, who picked the model, and the number of days I have. Should I die in this attempt, pass this along to my clan so they may seek to avenge me. The rules are: 1. I can use nothing bigger than a size 0 brush (no airbrushes, big brushes, nothing) 2. I have 7 full days to complete the model to an attractive level of quality (i.e., it's gotta look decent as well as be done quick) So when does this challenge start? IT ALREADY HAS! I just type super slow. It started at 11:30 am local - which 9:00 am Reaper time... And the state of the model: And I'll be back in a bit with some progress pictures.

    Goblins! (89002, 89003)

Today, we mourn the passing of a great goblin, buglips. He died defending the Reaper server farm, taking his enemies out with him. The only causality was the forum SQL backend. Here, we have a single still image from the security cameras, taken in from the Reaper floor. In other news, goblin on goblin deaths are expected to go down, as goblin scientists have released a paper conclusively denying the existence of the blue goblin threat.
  12. Hmm, I was wondering just how many posts that Pingo and Buglips are mentioned in before they actually post in it?
