Fire Mephit's Day at the Beach

I was playing around with ways to build a translucent base for her when I thought, "hey, where would a Fire Mephit spend the Fourth of July? Why, at the beach, of course!" (although not risqué, the model is partially nude, so there are only a few poses and viewing angles that I considered safe under the board's rules. Other poses are visible at https://1drv.ms/f/s!AlVvpBv_HhuMzKVA9TEd-D0c1rTOSg)

    77352: Demi-Lich

Managed to completely paint this happy little guy up in short order: Threw the base together last night to cure, but the actual painting time on this one was only a couple hours. I assumed that he’s meant to be floating on magical wisps of etherealness, but lack ethereal-colored paint. However, I have fire and lava colors, so I made it flames. C&C welcome, as always.
  4. Well, and yet another of Reaper’s 25th anniversary miniatures. The second one: Domur. There’s really nothing original here, tried to copy their scheme. I only added a cat, so Darius’s rat has someone to play with.

01601: Domur, High Mage (25th anniversary)

This year is the year of giving miniatures as birthday gifts to the friends I game with. One of these fine fellows--my oldest and dearest friend--has a birthday in a couple weeks. He loves magic-users and is obsessed with Harry Potter, so I painted up a 25th anniversary Domur as a classic "Gandalf the Grey" style wizard for his present: Tried to layer the flames to give some interesting and pleasing texture. Let me know how I did. Also, given his love for all things Potter, I did my best to modify Domur's spellbook to a more familiar book cover... I'm actually surprised I could keep the brush steady enough for it to come across at all similar, to be honest.

    Andrea Miniature's Khaerus

Here a beautiful sculpt from the spanish miniature studio "Andrea miniaturas". It's the wizard "Khaerus el invocador", which I painted with a piromancer palette, and included kind of a flame-familiar invocation. I'm pretty happy with the outcome, particularly with the red-oranges that work, I think, beautifully

Hi Guys, Just a quick update from my Do-To List. Pretty straight foward, light base coat, heavy wash, dry brush highlights. Let me know what you think :)

    Spellweaver

Finished Spellweaver from Gloomhaven for a comission. First attempt at OSL, and first bona fide 28mm eye job. C&C welcomed.

    Istariel - Judgement

This is Istariel from Judgement. I am pretty happy with how she turned out. I used the Olive Skin triad on her. I just bought them at Cancon and wanted to test them out. Really like them so will be ordering some of the other skin triads soon. I used several other Reaper paints including Nightshade Purple (my favorite!), and the clears = red, yellow, and purple. She is the first 54 mm that I have painted. I figured with her being larger, her eyes would be bigger. Nope! With so much fire and the way that it wraps around her, it was hard to do realistic highlights and shadows. I instead decided to highlight and shade her "normally" with some respect to the fire as a light source but not a set in stone guideline. I then did OSL on her using the colors of which part of the flame I thought would be hitting particular areas. My favorite parts are her right side, her underlit underboobs, and the back of her hair. She has a lean. I have reglued her twice and she still leans. I am sure it is user error but damned if I can get her to stand straight! Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.
  10. Hello! Presenting Diabolus, The Devil Dragon. I wanted this dragon to look as though it had a fiery core, I did this by starting with the lightest yellow as a base & then building up the fire colours so that the deepest parts of the dragon remained (visually) the hottest. I suppose it's the opposite of the usual way of doing things...... It was a little frustrating & counterintuitive as I couldn't really use any shading or washes. I think it turned out ok though. The WIP for this mini can be found at http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78084-here-be-dragons-or-theoldguard-tries-to-make-a-sizable-dent-in-his-painted-bones-3-collection/ Thanks for looking, feel free to comment.
  11. Here's my final batch of new painted figures. Bones Giant Centipedes. A staple encounter for low-level adventurers. Still inspired by Reign of Winter. Sadly, Mr. Red got into the snow of Mr. Blue's base! Enjoy. C&C Welcome.

77428 BONES Ticks (2) by Bob Ridolfi

Here are some classic vermin for your viewing pleasure. Still going along with the Reign of Winter theme, I wanted one wintry option. The red one shading/blending got really washed out in the picture. The recesses are splattered crimson, so much darker than this looks. Boy, are these eyes tiny! C&C Welcome.

    Fire Giant Warrior 77178

I painted this fire giant over the last few days. I had some grand plans on making this guy really unique: lighter skin to make it look like old charcoal or ash, a gold sword, bright and intense glowing from those balls and chains on his belt. Needless to say, those plans changed greatly during execution. The light skin tone made him look like a zombie, the ball and chain looked like scrambled eggs, and I didn't even bother with a gold sword. This is one I really wish I had done a Work In Progress post to ask for advice on getting those ideas to really pop on the figure. He ended up pretty generic, but at least a generic fire giant still looks pretty cool. I'm hoping to retry some of my wild ideas on a different fire giant in the future, and I will definitely have a WIP post to help me along the way. Critiques and advice are welcome and appreciated! Thank you!

    02963: Adventuring Accessories II

It was really fun to paint this set. I put the fire on a 25mm square base and put other stuffs on two 25mm bases connected by a plasticard. So, I can either use the fire only or can combine them as a mini-Vignette.
  15. To follow up on my experiments with Tamiya Clears, I present its effects on the Orange Translucents. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well on the thicker pieces. At some point, I think I need to go back and retry this with a different orange mini, like the medium fire elemental. Warning, pic heavy I don't have an untouched Burning Sphere, so no picture of it untouched. CA Fires

Are our California friends okay right now? The fires in NorCal are super nasty, and even if you aren't in the fire, the smoke is going all over.

    Herryk, Dwarf Cleric 77220

This is one of the first minis that I have painted. Pretty proud of how it turned out, but I obviously have a lot of learning and practice ahead of me. I'd appreciate any critiques and advice! Thank you!

  19. For your consideration, I offer Nolevniss Azrinae: Reaper Miniature 60162. Or in this Multiverse: Elariel Moonshadow This elf Magi was an active sculpt to paint. The robes and cloak are dynamic in portrayal of wind movement and direction. The robes were long and laying folded in back, which suggests weight and volume. Limited palette with work on suggesting different textures of cloth. Teeny eyes. Delicate sculpt too with the hair and features. And the familiar was an enjoyable if not surreal sculpt. I was told by the person who wanted this painted, "And paint the baby dragon gold." When I popped my Opti-visor on I was like, "That's not a dragon..." This creature reminded me of the haemonculus familiar from earlier Dungeons and Dragons editions, while the head reminded me of an eye-less vampire bat. What you see is the result. Cute. (But you don't want to be left alone in the same room with it.) The staff is a weapon of Power - like Purple Name power. Spell book and scrolls along with bandolier pouches told me a story of a travelling Mage - even his staff clutched a simple stone at the foot to act as counterweight. But not a nice guy. I hope you enjoy him. :) Peace and blessings.
  20. My elementals. I'm going to need to redo a few pics for inspiration gallery submission, but good for now. These have only been cropped, unlike most of my pics. WIP
  21. So I decided to do some elementals real quick. I gave them base coat of matte medium - primer for earth, because base coat. Then I attempted the yellow-ning. First it looked good, so I tried to add a little more, mixed with orange tint, and ugh. I think I'd recommend doing outsides red, and then use a yellow ink w/medium as "dry" brush to pick out details. It won't look right, but a lot of the translucents really seem to be table ready.

    Tzeentch Chariot and extras

Tzeentch has always been my favorite of the Chaos gods. It might have been how the Lord of Change reminded me of a Skeksi. Since then, Tzeentch has gone through many incarnations- with the rise and fall of M'Kachen, and the introduction of Fateweaver and Ahriman. Horrors went from funny little chibis to wild messes of tentacles and back again, flamers went from headless fungoids, to bird skull monsters and later to a jumble of gibbering firey mouths. Here is the current Tzeentch chariot for a Chaos Demon force: Now, I had previously painted up quite a few blue and pink horrors for this force, so he had me paint his Brimstone Horrors. They're pretty fun little guys, and very numerous (here's just a sample of the many brimestone horrors that are part of this force). And there's a sorcerer:

Reaper Bones 3: Fire Giant Jailor

Hey all, been plugging away at my kickstarter minis. I've done a few so far, but this is the first one I started working. I had to paint up my fire giant jailor, and it ended up taking some weird turns.
  24. I really like these elementals' pose and sculpting. So much more imposing and dynamic compared to most other elementals I have seen. Picking flowers... There are many more pictures at my blog Water Elemental was done as follows: first, an undercoat of clear matte varnish. This is key! I used Army Painter Anti Shine spray. Then some vallejo blue ink and when dry several light drybrushings with progressively lighter shades of pale blue up to almost pure white. Then some ancient citadel turquoise glaze here and there, all topped off with gloss varnish. I did some color shade variations all over this one, but I think maybe the gloss varnish fuffs it up so this can't really be seen in the pictures. Fire Elemental was done as follows: First the undercoat of clear matte varnish. Then several abortive attempts with yellow ink which did just not work until I abandoned that idea and undercoated it with three coats of opaque white. After that successive layers of heavy to light drybrush with bright yello - golden yellow -dark pink - dark red brown and finally black. It is important to let the colours dry a bit between coats to avoid tearing off the layer below when drybrushing. Finish with dotting in some blues for the eyes. When painting fire like this, it looks pretty terrible up to the dark red brown layer. Suddenly, it looks pretty sweet indeed. Earth Elemental was done as follows: black undercoart, then heavy drybrushed coat of dark green gray, followed by lighter coats of yellow sand and light grey white. A stone combo that I think works so much better than just shades of grey, grey and grey. I probably should have varied it more with different types and colours of rock represented. but I just could not be bothered as I just wanted it done at this point. I need my Bones 3 shipment to complete the set! When O when will it arrive? Wherefore art thou mine Large Air Elemental? 77311: Large Water Elemental Reaper Bones translucent blue from the second Bones KS unknown sculptor, as it is uncredited in the Reapermini.com listing. 77082: Large Fire Elemental Reaper Bones translucent orange from the first Bones KS sculpted by Julie Guthrie 77185: Large Earth Elemental Reaper Bones from the first Bones KS Sculpted by Kevin Williams all in Bonesium PVC 60mm Reaper display base .

From cool to Meh... 2nd thoughts.

So.... have you ever started something you thought looked cool as hell... then way into it you just go "$&@% balls!!!"? Kinda what i'm feelin for this piece. Its my third and for a d&d campaign. its basically supposed to be a dark elf sorcerrer but since my elf wizard mini I had on hand at the time was ... well defective on arrival. I figured it was close enough and i'd swap him in (hence my attempt at a fire sword to give any indication of the fire heavy wizard i actually am playing). I primed in dark grey which is what i had at the time. (wish i'd waited for black for this color scheme) found out gun metal sucks on grey... first "meh". Wanted the red to be a bit more catchy so mixed it with metallic silver....wasnt using wet palette at begining so the paint frequently dried and subsequent batches werent always same...so now I almost get the feel this guys going glam..... second "Meh". Other player uses an elf but a ranger, I wanted this guy a paler tone but it just seems to close to the hair I'd done.... third "MEH". At this point i dont think I even like the model really. Think I was rushing to make the weekend dead line to have the three minis done with this being the last one.... any thoughts to possibly save this one from the green bath of shame? (at this point I'd rather play one of my spiders)
