  1. I'm looking for two minis for my DND 5e character Sir Dustin Bladesong. Unmounted Sir Dustin wears heavy plate & helm (could be on ground or in hand as well). He wields a mighty two handed Greatsword. Mounted the Noble Sir Dustin has lance and shield. His stead Nightmare is a well trained and brave horse. Bonus points for his 3 squires: Tom Tomm rides a pony and plays the lute, Sven and Hunt double on horse back and have musical instruments and a banner.

    Twilight Knight - Order Version

'Twilight Knights are part of an organization dedicated to making sure humanity's glorious past is never forgotten. By gathering together what relics and fragments of knowledge they can find, they hope to restore at least a little of what was lost in the Great War. More heavily armoured and with greater mental conditioning than their regular counterparts. Order Knights are the shield of the organization, deployed to defend areas and items deemed to be of great importance. They stand steadfast in the face of whatever Void born madness comes their way.' Still struggling with taking photos at the moment (though these are a significant improvement over the first ones I took of this guy). A WIP thread can be found here. Overall I'm fairly pleased with how he came out, there's some serious room for improvement on his cape (I get stuck when the folds get large) but I'm getting there slowly. As always, any comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.
  3. Still don't feel like facing my 'Shelf of Shame' at the moment, so I dug this guy out of my 'Pile of Shame':- The Order variant of the Twilight Knight from Kingdom Death. Between him needing quite a lot of prep work (the casting wasn't particularly good on this one), a paint explosion and general 'life suckiness', I haven't got very far:- His face is done (Vallejo Dwarf Flesh>Flesh Shade Wash>Dwarf Flesh>1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Linen White). I gave his eyes a few tries but they're way too small for me to pupilize, I might colour them in later but I'm liking them white at the moment. I've made a start on his tunic with a basecoat of Sapphire Blue, but I'm having doubts as to whether it's all one piece (the bottom half does look a lot more 'armour platey' compared to the obviously fabric top). There's also something going on under his left arm, so his tunic might actually be a tabbard over a breastplate, but I can't really make it out. So I worked on his funky shield:- But I don't think I'll get a decent picture of it until it's attached. The front of the shield is finished, the face drybrushed in Vallejo Bronze and Vallejo Burnished Gold, with the edges in Vallejo Oily Steel.

89030 Hellknight Order of the Nail

Go easy on me. I wasn't really going for nmm. I just wanted black armor that looked different.

    Praying Paladin - 03600

Hurt myself and haven't been able to do much painting lately. Here is my most recent. Had a little trouble picking which pics I liked best so threw in some extras. My goal was a golden knight, the temptation was there to throw in a bunch of color especially purple for the tabard, but I wanted to experiment with trying something new. I may pluck off the plant if I can get away with doing so, it isn't really feeling like a match, but it is a gift for my cousin, so I'm thinking he won't be as picky :P Hope you enjoy

Stonehaven Gnome Knight & Wolf Mount

This little guy was my entry in the Fantasy Single Category at OrcCon this past weekend. He was a fun one to paint and I was very happy with him. One main thing that I wish I had been able to do better was the browns. The border on the cloth, the spear, and the scabbard all were difficult to do any sort of shading and highlighting that would have any impact. I did try some freehand wood grain on the spear but it did not look good so I went with something else. This was my first time doing resin water and I am very happy with how it turned out. The mold did leak a little and it was not level but the resin hardened completely and is clear. I am my toughest critic so I was hoping he would do well but was not expecting much, especially after seeing the other entries. So I was very surprised to find out he won his category and blown away when he got Best in Show. I am still working on my light set up for the pictures. Usually they are too dark, now I think they are too bright but I have a plan for next time. Any input would be appreciated.
  8. Next up, an old Grenadier mini from the Julie Guthrie's Personalities line. I really love this mini. I wish I could've done it more justice. I imagine this guy as a dragon slayer, for whatever reason. The grungy sort, though, rough and perhaps of noble connections somehow but rather crude. Mean. Not much better than an evil dragon, perhaps. I gave him a mustache. It looked like he was supposed to have a mustache. Anyway, second attempt at basing. Used some flock LittleBluberry sent me in my Secret Sophie package and some rocks I'd gotten a while back. Super simple, but yeah. Thanks for looking!

    Stonehaven Gnome Wolf-Rider

This is going to be my first big project of the year and will most likely be my only entry in the painting competition at OrcCon in February. I would do at least one other but I need to focus on the entries I have planned for ReaperCon. So I present to you the gnome knight mounted on a wolf from Stonehaven. I grabbed this little guy from the Box of Goodwill and have been itching to painted him. He has been primed and I have done a black base for all the metal as well as the wolf's fur. The eyes are done, except for possible color on the wolf's. The gnome's came out a lot better then I expected as they had little definition to them. Now I plan to be ambitious with the base. I am using a piece of burl wood that my dad cut up for me. I plan on painting it up as a rocky cliff with a pond at the base and a small waterfall. So I am going to have to make wood look like rock and attempt using resin for the first time. Any tips?
  10. First Show-Off Post These are some of the last minis I painted before the presbyopia started to kick in. At one time I could see what I was doing! But since then I have dis-improved. My experiments with OTC reading glasses continue—I must have almost a dozen pairs at this point. If I remember rightly I painted the Gnoll and the Paladin at a Reapercon several years back. Or at least that is when I started them. But the remembry is a funny thing—so that might not be totally right. At one point Sir William got to serve in a Warhammer Chaos Army as either a BSB or a unit Champion. It helped that his broccoli base + the plastic regulation square base + the steel washer let him tower head and shoulders above the other plastic Chaos warriors. The steel washer is under there to let him stick magnetically to the unit tray. I need to incorporate the Gnoll into my Reven Army for Warlord.
  11. I painted this guy as a Christmas present for my mom. He was inspired by the first dog my parents had while I was growing up - a beagle named Tungsten. A couple of random goals I had were to use the airbrush that I got for a Christmas present last year, and to try something new (the freehand on the edge of the cloak). I kind of waited a bit too long to start on this miniature, so there are some definite shortcuts I took, but I'm still very happy with him.
  12. Guy of Gisborne here is going to be my Christmas present for my mom, so I'm trying to knuckle down and get him done this weekend. I'm taking a short break to post the progress so far. There are a couple inspirations for this miniatures - the first dog we had growing up was a beagle named Tungsten; and my mom has a "dog" bathroom (it's decorated with dogs, it's not for dogs). The cloak is finished except for a few stray brushstrokes I need to clean up. The fur and armor are "basecoated" - they will need additional details. I expect the tabard to give me trouble, and to look at Jess Rich's studio paint job for tips. Depending on how quickly I finish the rest of him, I might try some simple freehand on the cloak - and by simple I mean something like a line near the bottom. Any suggestions or critiques are welcome.

Iron Wind: Make a Wish Dragons

I painted this up as a wedding gift for a couple of friends who are getting married this weekend. They go into a glass dome keepsake tomorrow with a little plaque to commemorate the event. The model is an old Ral Partha creation that was recast by Iron Wind metals. I cant tell which version this is as it came to me in a plastic baggie. tried very hard to keep the Blue dragon from fading out. I have a tendency to over highlight leaving the final mini much lighter than I intended. The blue is Prussian Blue by Derivan MINIS paints. One of my favorite blues. The remaining paints are by reaper. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
  14. So, thanks to Jasonator, I ended up picking up not just one, but two minis from Thunderbolt Miniatures. They are the #3012 Red Knight, and #3010 Sir Percevale! I don't have them yet, they've been ordered, but I figured I could get some opinions while I wait. I’ve already thought about colors, and I want them to off set each other as they’ll be displayed on a shelf of our Medieval Times souvenirs, facing off. The way I see it, the Red Knight, let’s call him Sir Brutus since he lacks a name, is strong and fearless. He’s a fierce opponent on the battlefield, felling his foes usually in the first pass during jousting. Sir Percevale, though no weakling himself, is not as mighty as the fearsome Brutus. However, he is devilishly clever and intelligent, weighing up his opponents and targeting the weak areas he spots. So I wonder....who would win in this joust…the strong Brutus or the cunning Percevale? These are store photos that I've colored the bottom layer with my art program to play with color schemes. The Blue Knight, Sir Percevale, is going to be Blue and Gold detailing with a noble eagle as its symbol The Red Knight is going to be Red, White and black detailing with a dragon as its symbol, My main question is...with or without stripes? Stripes win! I know I'm probably crazy for wanting to do these color schemes on a 25mm figure...but oh well =P I'm crazy

    Aku-chan paints... Gnome Knight

Rediscovered my Stonehaven Gnomes last week and thought they would make good, simple projects to work on between bigger stuff. First one finished is the Female Knight:- Super pleased with her face and hair, but I feel the rest is pretty average. All comments graciously received!
  16. I took someone's advice about keeping track of projects & colors, so here's #21 in my new MSP lineup, Almaran. I'm pretty sure everyone has one of these, right? Great character. I'll have to update this photo. I ruined the immersion with the corner, but otherwise gets the idea across. I keep seeing little things I could improve the longer I look at these, not to mention he needs a real base. My wife and I use all my figures to play various games, let alone my son's fascination for them, so there's even a little nick at the tip of the sword. Argh! Guess I'll be fixing a couple of things.
  17. 'He cannot give into hopelessness, he must save his people whatever the cost.' These are the thoughts that continue to push him in his fight against a great evil, an evil that destroyed both him and his people long ago... Still can't take decent pictures. Any ways, I present my latest mini Kingdom Deaths Gold Smoke Knight (I started working on him about here in my WIP thread), didn't quite turn out how I envisioned it (I wanted him to be a bit battered looking, but didn't have the guts to tackle any weathering), but I'm still really happy with how he turned out. All comments or criticisms greatly received.

    Mounted knight in full gear...15mm!

This is a piece from my private collection. I had this 15mm knight from (Battle Systems) in my parts box, so I decided to do it up as a full display piece. The flag is a battle standard (made of paper). The plums on the knight helm & horse head are real feather plums that I cut to size. All designs on the horse drape are free hand painted. Gold streamers are gold foil string...I had a great time doing this figure!
  21. This was a figure that an RPG player asked me to paint for him. It was his character in the game and wanted me to paint him a vignette figure that he could place into his bookshelf case. It was a very nice figure and I enjoyed painting it.

... And Justice Was All He Had To Give

This was my first mini that I had fully painted and based. Making the log was a bunch of fun.

    77008: Male Human Warrior

So first off, some little white specs of dust or something got on my mini just prior to sealing, and I failed to notice. I'm quite annoyed. The camera of course makes them more visible than the naked eye; it's a bummer. Didn't do anything special with this guy's base, just some basic, "I'll be adventuring today" basing. As with all the Bones miniatures I've painted, I haven't noticed any major difference in quality than the metals. In fact, I think they take paint a little more graciously. I decided to make the flat circular portion of the sword's hilt a gemstone and painted both sides accordingly. I also wanted his brown leather to look well worn, so I took some of the highlights a little more than I might have normally. C&C welcome.

    14352: Unforgiven, Crusader Grunt

This mini is titled 14352: Unforgiven, Crusader Grunt, but I swear on the blister it said Templar Knight or something. This guy was sitting on the rack at my LGS for months, and I felt sorry for him. So I bought him. I originally painted him up for one of the PCs in my OD&D game. But the character died before I finished painting D: This is my most recent mini, so please give me all your comments and criticism you can spare! Painted with Vallejo, he seems a bit dark to me. It was REALLY HARD to paint the decals on his shoulder and on his front because the consistency of thinned paint is just too watery and goes into the cracks instead of on the ridges. Sorry I couldn't get you a good camera shot from other angles. Tips truly appreciated. MG
