    Alguaciles (Cornrow) - Corvus Belli

Here's the first guy I've painted from the Operation: Icestorm box for Corvus Belli's Infinity skirmish game. He's just a grunt I was working out some color schemes and another attempt to speed things up with tabletop painting. Had a tough time pinning him to the base (a plastic piece from Sedition Wars), required some touch-ups which is why there is a horrid dot of red that needs fixing on his back calf :p
  2. The are the first of the Counterblast figures I've completed. This BdE Bot was painted a while ago, but I never got around to basing it. Finally got that done. This guy was fun to paint. Finally an eye big enough for me to work with, and no worries about having to line it up with another one . I kept the bases simple on these as Counterblast is a skirmish game I hope to be playing before too much longer.
  3. I realized I hadn't posted all the old Shadowrun Ral Partha figures I painted last year. This is an ork woman street samurai. Like all old Parthas, her base is integral and pre-sculpted. I think I prefer the new Shadowrun aesthetic, where even orks can be kind of cute. This one is pretty grotesque. The rest of the Shadowrun pieces I painted at the same time are Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the marvelously over-the-top Lord Torgo.

    Shadowrun Oni Troll Bouncer

This was one of several old Ral Partha Shadowrun figures I painted recently. I liked this one because he was just bizarre. He's sold as a troll bouncer. He's clearly based on classic Japanese oni, so I painted him up like one. The paint is all matte; the effects on the back of the hair are paint, not shine. Other Shadowrunners painted at the same time include: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an ork woman street samurai, a cyber troll with reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.
  5. The Story - Two years ago, a friend, who used to run a gaming store, asked if I wanted all his old minis left from when he closed the store, since they were just taking up space. As I have no willpower, I said sure. He said there might be 3 or 4 Diamond boxes worth. There ended up being 9 boxes... Fast forward to last year, when the Kickstarters started rolling in. I now have even more minis I will never really have time to paint. So what to do with all these minis in the boxes? Well, I could sell some on ebay or something , but that sounds like work. So how about I give some away? I started by giving Cartmanis's son a few figs to paint. Then used some blister packs as packaging material for Secret Sophie. Still an awful lot of stuff, running out of room for KS stuff. How about I do a contest? A Sci-Fi contest, because I've got a ton of Sci-Fi stuff, I really like Sci-Fi stuff, and I don't see enough Sci-Fi stuff being done on the site. So, here we are. Paint up some cool Sci-Fi stuff and, if you place, you'll get to pick out some (hopefully) cool Sci-Fi stuff and I'll send it to you. TL;DR - I have way too many Sci-Fi figs that I will never paint. Paint up something Sci-Fi and maybe I'll send you some. Contest rules: -- the theme is Science Fiction. Any Sci-Fi is good. But if you want to do cowboys, they had better be Space Cowboys, and there coats had better be brown. -- entries can be of any manufacturer, or sculpt your own. -- any figure which was painted and finished between May 1st and the deadline is eligible -- the deadline for entries is September 7, 2014 at 11:59 pm CST -- you may enter as many times as you like, but only one prize per person will be awarded -- each entry needs to be uploaded to the appropriate thread. Please attach your entries using the forum uploading feature or hotlink from the Inspiration Gallery. We want to make sure they're visible at all times. -- you may submit between one and four images of each Squad or Single Figure entry and up to six images for Diorama. They do not need to be stitched into a single image file. -- you are allowed to enter miniatures that will also be entered into other contests that might overlap this one. -- the judges or Reaper reserves the right to remove entries if deemed inappropriate, but we're pretty laid back here and this is just to cover our butts. -- the judges and Reaper can clarify and amend rules at will. Categories: There are three categories, Diorama, Squad and Single Figure Diorama: A Diorama is defined as two or more figures on a scenic base that helps to tell as story. Judging Criteria -- The over all possible score for each entry is 100 points. The judges will look at the following when deciding: Composition: layout, how well it tells a story, etc -- 50 points Painting Skill -- 25 points Overall Presentation of the miniature (basing, colors used, and so on) -- 25 pts Squad: A Squad is defined as 4 or more figures painted as a cohesive unit. Judging Criteria -- The over all possible score for each entry is 100 points. The judges will look at the following when deciding: Cohesion: how well the unit ties together -- 50 points Painting Skill -- 25 points Overall Presentation of the miniature (basing, colors used, and so on) -- 25 pts Single Figure: A Single Figure is just that, one fig, any size. A vehicle with a driver/rider would be a single fig, but a vehicle with a crew would better fit in squad or diorama. Judging Criteria -- The over all possible score for each entry is 50 points. The judges will look at the following when deciding: Painting Skill -- 25 points Overall Presentation of the miniature (basing, colors used, and so on) -- 25 pts The Prizes: The items I have available are mostly VOID and Warzone figures, including a number of box sets. There may also be a few Sci-Fi items from Star Wars and some really old TSR Gamma World stuff. I will likely split the items up into categories, so a winner may get to pick one from the "boxed sets" list and X from the "Blister packs" list (for example). I reserve the right to throw more stuff in the box if there is room after packing your picks. Picks will be done by where you placed, in the order of Diorama, Squad and then Single. So 1st place Diorama will pick first, 1st place Squad will pick second and so forth. The prizes in each category: 1st place - picks: 2 Large and 20 Small 2nd place - picks: 1 Large and 16 Small 3rd place - picks: 1 Large and 12 Small lucky drawing - picks: 1 Large and 8 Small Best Reaper - Reaper provided award for the best all Reaper entry - $15 Reaper Gift Certificate, plus I'm going to throw in 4 Small picks (just cause I'm like that) See attached pdf for complete list of picks available. contest_minis_list.pdf Image Enhancement: -- digital enhancement ("Photoshopping") of your entry is strictly prohibited. -- no clone brush, healing brush, airbrush, or other brush work. Fix your paint with paint, not with Photoshop. -- no adding or removing background elements from the image -- cropping, global color balance, and global level adjustments are allowed ("global" means "the entire image." You may not "pop" colors by only selecting some areas for level adjustment. )

    Infinity Acontecimento Dragoon

Another great model from Infinity. I love the anime feel of this guy.
  7. Last Stand on the Icaria Plains This diorama was created for use in the Spaceship Superstar contest. Minis used are 80009: Rex, Dark Future Hero, 80010: Nova Corp:Sgt, 80011: Nova Corp:Guard, 80015: Nova Corp:Rifleman, and the discontinued Bones Ellen Stone, Cowgirl. A short WIP is here.

    Black Dragons

Nothing like procrastinating on something else to get work done. So here is my progress on the Black Dragons unit from Relic Knights. Also included is their leader, Sophia Drake. Miniatures are in various stages of complete, with the one on the far left being fully completed. Sophia is not wearing a helmet, and her head is off to the side. I may need to strip it and restart - the German Gray primer doesn't work great with the light skin and pink/purple hair she'll have.
  9. This is a diorama I'm planning to submit to the Spaceship Superstar contest. It's nearly complete, but I thought I'd get you lot's opinion before I glued everything down. Hopefully the story is clear from the piece, but basically it's just a good old-fashioned showdown between a pair of outlaw-with-a-heart-of-gold types and the lawmen on some red alien planet. So without further ado: Notes: The NOVA guns and the square bit of their backpacks are just basecoated Brown Liner or black, but will stay pretty dark. Their little chest insignia need to be picked out. Rex's gloves are basecoated Intense Brown, and need some highlighting/shading. Other than that, all painting could be done as of now. I'm somewhat concerned the NOVA troops are too bright, and draw the attention away from the heroes, so I'm considering a Bloodstain Red wash to bring them down a bit. Is this a good idea or are they fine and I shouldn't risk ruining them? They'll all be cut off their integral base and glued down. Minis used are 80009: Rex, Dark Future Hero, 80010: Nova Corp:Sgt, 80011: Nova Corp:Guard, 80015: Nova Corp:Rifleman, and the discontinued Bones Ellen Stone, Cowgirl. (Metal version is 500003: Ellen Stone, Cowgirl.) So, what do you guys think? ETA: As I mentioned, I'm entering this into a contest, so real critique would be helpful.
  10. Here's my contest entry for the single figure Be A Spaceship Superstar contest. I was originally not going to do an entry, but then I read the premise of the contest and thought that I had the same idea about most of my sci-fi stuff; give it to Anne or paint some of it. I decided to paint up Sophie whom I acquired during the annual Reaper X-mas days of Christmas adventure back in 2011 (I think). I opted for more of a modern (dull) NMM armor. I also gave her one terminator eye. The colors I used were all Reaper MSP and include: Carnival purple, Blue liner, yellowed bone, brains pink, maggot white, redstone shadow, blackened brown, dark elf shadow, gory red, sun yellow, woodstain brown and breonne blue.
  11. COMMISSION...A little while back, I received a query from a model club/group who was interested in the purchase of my Renaissance Fair project for their club. When I gave them a polite negative reply...I informed them that if there was anything else I might be able to do for them...to please let me know. After about 4 or 5 weeks; they recontacted me with a request to build them a generic shanty type town consisting of 6 to 8 shacks and some kind of tower...they requested nice outside detail work but empty black interiors and removable tops for figures...in a size that can be used by (30-40mm) figures...something along the lines of buildings from the movie (District 9). SHANTY...The posted photo is the start of this project (Shanty # 1)...So I know what I will be working on for the next month or so. Paul (Catdancer)

    GW Grey Knight Dreadknight

This is more of a model kit than a mini, really. But I like it a lot. The red turned out well. I went with the red instead of the usual silvery look for the grey knights. Wish I'd gotten better shots of the base. Went to a lot of trouble making those paving stones out of card stock.

    Infinity Iguana TAG Pilot

Here's the pilot mini to go with the Iguana Tactical Armored Gear I posted recently. Same color scheme, roughly, as his TAG.
  16. MODEL...(Black Orks at Gnorbal Jungle Ruins = Base)...(Sci-fi squad). DATA...I have started the prep work on the base for the above titled piece... PHOTO # 1...Shows the general art concept that will be a guideline for the building of this piece. PHOTO # 2...Shows the raw (untrimmed) ceiling tile that will be the base for this piece (8" x 10") in size. PHOTOS # 3 - # 5...Shows wall section # 1...(all wall sections are resin parts from my parts box...they were made by a company called Armour Cast)...the posters on all the walls are all sized & cut to scale Warhammer 40k and other paper posters (not decals)...The walls have their base painting all done...(dark grey stone base)...washed with (expresso brown, mocca brown, deep burgundy, hauser green, lamp black, light stone grey and bleached sand)...Wall section # 1 also shows how all the walls will be covered in deep moss growth...this moss will be dry brushed with (hauser green, grass green, shamrock green and ivy green). 17. TITLE...Black Orc Squad in Ruins at Gnorbal (GW Ork Boyz)...based upon Warzone Mutant Chronicles. DATA...I am working on a squad of (5) Black Orcs that will be walking through a ruined building in the jungle outskirts of Gnorbal. This will be a diorama for a western regional contest (later this year)...but will also be my last entry in the (Spaceship Superstar Contest - Squad Category)...again for participation only. PROJECTS...Beside this project... 1. I am working on a commission piece (fantasy brothel)...sorry, no photos. 2. Ren Fair Novelty piece # 19 (Far Far Away)...on hold...waiting for Hot Stuff order. 3. Ren Fair Novelty piece # 20 (Roadside Shrine)...on hold...waiting for scale lumber order. 4. Ren Fair Novelty piece # 21 (Supply Wagon)...on hold...waiting for scale lumber order. So this is what is currently on my work agenda. Paul (Catdancer)

    Robot Scorpion

So I got bored and went on a sci-fi kick while painting an old Mega Minis scorpion, and decided it needed to be a robot scorpion with a machine-gun tail. One of my Kickstarter IMEF Bones gave up his weapon for this cause. Not terribly happy with the body tones. I couldn't quite get them where I wanted them. However, I'm very happy with how its gun came out in the end.

    50079: Invisible Man

And here is the mini I will probably be entering in the Single Mini portion of the Spaceship Superstar contest. His casting was a bit off, and his face is lopsided, but them's the breaks.

    80009: Rex, Dark Future Hero

And here is Rex, Dark Future Hero, for the current Bones Beauty Contest, and maybe for the Spaceship Superstar Single Mini. "I'll be back."
  22. I am trying to get a head start on a theme game for Reapercon 2015 using the Warlord Rules and the RAGE system. I think the "monsters" can translate fairly well for what I am thinking. However, to use minis like the Nova Corp, who have ranged weaponry, can melee up close, etc... How would you translate that or What datacards would you start with to not totally imbalance the game. Issues I am seeing... using soldiers with ranged weapons isn't as "hit or miss" as archery and spears. The soldiers should hit (MAV) as frequently as knights in combat, not the 2s and 3s for ranged combat, I was thinking more like 4s and 5s... but that would overpower them to have 4s and 5s for melee... or should those be reduced to 2s and 3s... Spell usages... combined with technology, replaced by technology, or just not existant? replaced means casters are RPG carrying folks with different types of grenades... Healers are medics, but need to be within X" to help (versus a spell just needing LOS)? Am I getting too bogged down in the mechanics? What are your thoughts?

    Sci-Fi Skirmish Game

I'm looking for a Sci-Fi game to get into, but want to avoid GW for the time being. Cost is not a factor, as I value game mechanics and sculpt quality far more. But the single biggest criterion is that the theme shouldn't be mixed (e.g. sci-fi cowboys) - I'm looking for something more traditional. Does anyone know of a game that fits these criteria?
  24. Well, I painted this. I'm not really sure it's much to show off about, but at least it's done. This is definitely my least favourite of the Renegade Robot set, so it was kind of a chore to paint, and it shows. Ah, well. Onward and upward.
  25. I had this one half-finished for quite a while, but I got the inspiration to get it done today. Quite happy with him, actually. Much better than that last droid I did. I'm looking forward to getting more of the em4 Future Skirmish figures and making up a Cursed Earth Desperadoes gang for Judge Dredd (with a few token mutants, of course).
