  1. 77020 Bathalian (Speed Paint)

Here is my 5th mini painted ever. I went with a very simplified color scheme (only 3-4 colors total). I want to add some more detail, especially around the eyes, but I rather like how it came out for being roughly 1.5 hours of work. If only I could get the staff to stay straight... Next I plan to tackle something bigger than ever before!
  2. Last Batch of 2016

I put a spray varnish coat on the final batch of figures for 2016. This group includes three Bones for the club's ongoing Frostgrave project, two Eureka Dark Ages Archers (a Viking and a Norman) destined for Saga warbands, and a converted Bones Bathalian, who is headed for the stars. That is to say, he's going to be part of my Rogue Stars collection, for Osprey's new generic small group SF game, at least while we figure out if we'll be playing it. Here's to hoping for a better 2017!
  3. Not a great picture, due to lighting, but I'm playing around with a Bathalian I converted with a futuristic pistol from weapons pack 55025. I dug it out for what I hope will be a near-term game of Rogue Stars, Osprey's new generic SF squad skirmish game. I'll post him again once he's based, but I suspect my Rogue Stars forces are going to get something unobtrusive in basing style.
  4. 77020 Bathalian D'khul

Hey look I finished him! Or her. No offense to Bathalians but I can't tell the difference and don't much care. Anyway. Not the greatest paint job ever but I think it came out pretty decently, and by my standards it actually went really quick. Probably under 4 hours total. Comments and criticism appreciated, as always.
  5. 77020 Bathalian D'khul

One of my current projects. The picture's showing me some ugly details, but that's hardly surprising. Lots of work left to go. My thought on the cloak is to mix Viper Green with the base of Vallejo Dark Sea Blue (the way I mixed Dragon Blue with Dark Sea Blue for the robe)... I suspect it'll look a little weird but I want this guy to end up looking a bit weird... As long as he doesn't actually look bad I'll be OK with it. Any thoughts or suggestions? Edit: Show-off!
  6. My goal is to finish this one by the end of 2016. I've been working on it since summer, and I've only gotten this far, so I hope I'm not putting too much pressure on myself! Planning stages: My inspiration - My MSPaint skillz - My basing skillz - I used some Sculpey on my then brand new Basius Plaguelands stamp. (That tells you how long this thing has been sitting around waiting for me.) I mashed together various sections to make a nice swampy area. I'll glue the integral base to the void, and fill with greenstuff prior to priming. Mr. Bathalian will be sort of a testbed for the color scheme I want to use on the big man himself. Badly overprimed in Army Painter Alien Purple - Badly over-washed in Nightmare Black, staff based in I think Concrete Grey - Blocked primary sections in what I imagine are the main colors I want to use - Inner robe: based with Rich Indigo, shaded with Nightmare Black, and highlighted with Gem Purple. Future highlights will go pale purple-ish. Outer robe: based with Witchcraft Purple, shade will probably be Rich Indigo, and highlights will go to pink-ish. Skin: based with Cactus Flower, shade TBD, highlights to white-ish. Staff: needs to be more bone-ish, future TBD. More to come-ish!
  7. 77020: Bathalian (Mind Flayer)

Hey all, A friend picked this guy up for me to paint for his upcoming pathfinder game. This is my 4th painted mini so far, and my first with a good brush. Painted this with a Raphael 8404, and the difference compared to synthetic brushes is pretty great. Anyways, all the colors were chosen by my buddy, and he wanted the gloss finish (though I would have gone with matte) This was also my first attempt at a transition/fade/gradient (dunno what to call it, mind is blank atm) effect on the cloak, which I think came out ok. Also, sorry for the totally 'meh' phone pics, ha.
  8. He'll eat your brains!

Here's my version of the "bathalian". My first officially complete bones figure. Wow I'm slow! The robes are actually a greener colour, my camera turned them bluey.
  9. Bethalian

My second Bones project. WIP here
  10. Bethalian

Ok, so kind of in between things and this dude’s been sitting on the desk for a while asking to be painted. So here goes my second Bones project. I call him the Bethalian because ‘Bathalian’ was mis-printed on the initial run of packaging. First I primed him with Army Painter black. I went a bit heavier than usual because even my base coats are thinned and, well, Bones don’t play that. Kind of wanted to try a black primed mini, I had done some orcs like that back in the day and also I’m starting to run low on white primer. I’m loosely basing him on a veined octopus, but after thinking about it I’m not sure I want to tackle that level of detail. Because they’re super detailed! We’ll see how it goes, I like the basic coloration anyway. So I based him in Bloodstain Red. Because that’s a nice muted red, I wanted to go for a nice muted green cloak. This will also accentuate the gold trim that’ll go on it. So the back of the cloak was based with Swamp Green and the inner cloak was based in Khaki Shadow. I wanted another green to work off the khaki lining, so I went with Olive Shadow. Then I based the gold with the darkest shadow instead of the usual Oiled base; there’s so much recess in the trimwork that I just wanted to lay the darkest shadow in there right away. As usual, my WIP pics aren’t real great for showing accurate colors even after tweaking the white balance in GIMP. They’re mostly to give a basic idea of what’s going on. Going to try to keep this one simple and relatively quick, about two hours just to do that very basic base-coating thanks to the black primer and a truculent Swamp Green.
