  1. Jack Brown

    77132 - Barnabus Frost

I like this guy. Nice detail without going overboard. I think I got eager to move on to another figure before I was completely done. It shows in the buttons and the pistol. I kicked myself a little when I saw another example the other week where someone has removed the gun from the figure. I should have done that in the beginning. I'm pretty happy with the red jacket and the beard. Comments?
  2. I have for you two day both a commission ( the dwarf ) and a figure painted by a student ( the Necromancer ). I offer painting classes at my store and this was one of the first minis painted by a student with 0 prior experience I think all things considered she turned out amazing. One of my favorite part of the mini's hobby is getting to make custom bases and even though the base on the dwarf Captain may seem simple I feel it brings a lot to the character and makes them feel like they are on the deck of a ship.

    Pathfinder pcs (and enemies)

I've been working on my set of bones I (and now bones II). First up are the PCs in my Pathfinder group. I painted them up for each player- the ninja in the back is from another manufacturer. 77076 is a new PC- that only lasted for 3 sessions before dying (again). The player has killed her PC 3x in dramatic ways. Next up I have a slew of Skull and Shackles villains: From the new bones, it's Mr. Bones II The rest are all works in progress. The cultists and hellknights: I still have the others (and one metal one) to paint up- I'm still trying to figure out what kind of theme (and how to paint black armor better!). Sea devils and wereshark: Finally some devils to complete the campaign: They're currently level 11 and starting book 4 of the Skull and Shackles path- we've been meeting biweekly for about 8 months. Feedback, suggestions, etc are very welcome. Thanks for looking.
  5. More pirates for 50 Fathoms, Barnabus Frost (77132) and Hajad (77134). Barnabus got the play the big bad pirate opponent, and Hajad was the unfortunate extra that bit the dust in my one shot I ran last weekend (see here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/56252-50-fathom-pirate-recruits-bathalian-77020-and-tiik-warriors-77186/)
  6. I did quick paints of the five Bones pirates. This is the second, Barnabus Frost. I pictured him as one of those red-faced redheads, a little WC Fields.
  7. So, as I noted on my earlier show off thread, my digital camera broke. My dad is a rather avid amateur photographer, so I asked him if he had one to spare. He did, but it lacked a battery. $20 and a week later (Amazon was S-L-O-W) I now have a shiny, old-but-powerful digital camera with which to take pictures of my minis. With a remote flash and everything! Advice for the pics will be cheerfully taken. I'm experimenting right now, so far I seem to get the best results with the camera on a tripod with the remote flash pointed at the ceiling. I have a printed backdrop, and have the mini on a stand. But enough about photography, the results! I think I'll post my most recent one first. I'm not 100% happy with it, this is a commission work for a friend who wanted me to paint up Barnabus Frost as a random Pathfinder character. I believe he's going to make him a wizard. Since he is not a ship captain, I went with more subdued colors and cut the flintlock pistol off. I was surprised by how neat I was able to make where I had cut the pistol off- there was very little roughness to it. In general, I think I did okay with this paint job - the face is a little funny, the coat is good but not great, and I tried to do a sort of salt-and-pepper hair but it didn't look terribly good, so I washed it down to a fairly subdued "going a little grey." Any comments or advice will be gladly accepted.

    77132 - Barnabus Frost

First, for this paint job, I have to give huge thanks/props to paintminion, who did an unbelievable job on this guy earlier. Her paint job was so perfect, that I couldn't see this guy any other way, and I ended up using her's as my primary inspiration/guide for this effort. So thank you for your wonderful color selection! If you like my paint job, please go like hers as well! The basing on this was a lot of fun, and the first time I've ventured beyond simple gravel and flock. The rocks on the base are made of cork board, and a bit of modeling paste to give some more texture on flat surfaces. The water is mostly painted, although I covered it with some woodland scenics realistic water and water effects. Hope you enjoy, and C&C welcome as always!
