    Kev!'s 77216: Bear

Howdy, It's not my place to question what bear does or does not do in the woods... Kev! P.s. But it DOES make a sound, though...
  2. For my Broken Gods D&D game, I've painted up all the figures for my group and am now getting around to painting up their mounts and animal companions. First off we have Bagheera, the Panther based off artwork in the spoiler. Bagheera is the animal companion of the party's monk/ranger and normally it is a standard medium-sized panther that he can use to fight along side him, but the panther can grow into this large mount when needed. Next is the Golden Lion, the mount of the party's bard, based on the artwork below: Next is the Nightmare for the party's warlock, based on the artwork below: I painted up the standard medium sized panther to use when it is needed. The monk/ranger also gained a (perhaps) temporary follower in "Jim the Brown Bear" which I also decided to paint up for this adventure and future adventures as a companion or just standard bear. All of these are painted up tabletop to tabletop+ standards. I didn't want to put too much work into them as they are just meant to be on the tabletop and not to be put into any contests. Larger panther and the lion are the lioness and lion from Bones 3. The smaller panther and the brown bear are bones animal companions. The Nightmare is from one of Tre's kickstarters. It has a barbarian that goes on the saddles, which of course I omitted here and I'll either toss the barbarian in the BOGW or put him in the melt bin at ReaperCon now that he's not really needed and I covered the hole in the saddle where he would normally attach. There's one missing mount, a silver and black fox that I may also paint up for the 4th member of the group. She paints minis too, so I'm thinking I'll give her a wolf figure that looks very foxlike to have her do it herself especially since I have so many other projects I need to finish up on this month. Anyhow, C&C are welcomed and appreciated! EDIT!! Adding more pics of the figures in more close-up shots for each one.
  3. Over a total of about 90+ minutes split over two evenings I managed to get some paint on the cat. The bird had brown liner on it so far. I started with brown liner and worked up with stone grey and linen white. Getting the spots to look good was a pain. Onto the bird next! Gonna use the same set of colors I think.

    Last Batch of 2016

I put a spray varnish coat on the final batch of figures for 2016. This group includes three Bones for the club's ongoing Frostgrave project, two Eureka Dark Ages Archers (a Viking and a Norman) destined for Saga warbands, and a converted Bones Bathalian, who is headed for the stars. That is to say, he's going to be part of my Rogue Stars collection, for Osprey's new generic small group SF game, at least while we figure out if we'll be playing it. Here's to hoping for a better 2017!

    Furry Bones

Decided that I'm gonna do some quick and easy animals. Not much progress tonight, but then it was a late start...
  7. For Minivember I will try to do a different model each day (duplicates or similar models (from the same unit or suchlike still only count as one!). If you want to see the rest of my minivember minis, feel free to have a look at my painting blog..I won't be posting each and every one here, just the Reaper minis and maybe some that I find especially interesting. Yes, they will be speedpaints, just like all my minis. Seeing as I am starting out a week late, I have some catching up to do... Christmas is not too far off, and Critters are fun and here is Beary the Bear with Wolverinie the Wolverine (probably searching for Porcupiney the Porcupine, who is to carry the new Savior of Critterkind to be born on Christmas Eve. Unless the Mountain Lion eats them all. You know the story. Your common or garden variety Brown Bear and Wolverine. They might seem smallish, but that is just because they are in a natural/realistic scale, as opposed to the overlarge Dire variants we usually see in mini form. And anyway, what the Wolverine lacks in size, it makes up in sheer bloodymindedness! This one does not have any healing factor though. Bear and Wolverine and Magpie (or whatever is is supposed to be), from the 77216 Companion Animals set. 77216: Companion Animals

I've got 3 of these guys painted up for folks in my D&D game to use - the wolverine and the wolf are for my wife's druid, and the bear is for the party's barbarian who seems convinced that he'll be able to take on bear form at some point. I don't know if it's true, but whatever, he gets a bear mini! And while I was on the hangouts the other day, I asked my daughter what colour I should paint the bear and she said "Pink, purple, and green!" So that's where the stripes on the bear come from.

    Animal Group (wip)

I got the Reaper Bones Animal Companion set (sku 77216)... and decided to paint them all at the same time. All I've done so far is put on the base coat, and the color layer. I did a little shading, but haven't done any highlights yet. Nor have I painted the bases (at all). Any thoughts or advice before I highlight them and do their bases?
  12. I must say, the small size of these models (especially the smaller of them) made this a nice challenge. I did my best to find reference photos of real animals to use as a basis for painting them, which was a big help. I have two sets of each of these, and with the exception of the wolf, wolverine, and bat, I painted the duplicates differently, to provide more variety. Here are pictures of the Animal Familiars: Bat, Crow, Red Fox, Weasel, and a 'black' cat. Bat, hawk, grey fox, ferret, and a brown-striped tabby cat. And here are pictures of the Animal Companions: Snow leopard, vulture, wolverine, wolf, brown bear. Black panther, falcon, wolverine, wolf, black bear.
  13. Hi, not really knowing what to do with some of the animals companions from Bones II, I decided to paint and setup a little vignette with them. Introducing Anwyn as a beast master / tamer. There are quite a few things I would want to redo on her (eyes, actually blending the highlights, etc...), but the "good enough" bug hit and i took it off the work in progress shelf. Here are a few snapshots of the familiars. The Bear: The Wolf: and the Fisher (at first I though it was a very big Marten) C&C welcome.
  14. March was hard - I moved, Elderspawn had spring break and my mother-in-law stayed for 10 days. Most of what painting time I could scratch out was put into spring exchange minis. One green, and one unfinished, but I can't post pics yet. So I had to figure out what I could finish in the last three days of the month. I figured it was animals or troops. Bones 2 was short of troops so..... The Wolf, The Bear, and the Wolverine I also did a male lion, but missed the cat that was actually part of this set. The bird I skipped on purpose. Edit: added the Cat
