A (tardy) group shot of 2017 minis

I’m a bit late, but I finally started back painting late last year. Here’s what I managed to accomplish in 3 months. And a few close-ups of my favorites... Goremaw the Scarlet Worm is over in the Large Mini contest: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/73889-2017-annual-contest-single-figure-100mm-reaper-entries/&do=findComment&comment=1669304 A Yeti (77436) in a non-standard coat pattern 77418 Xiao Liu (Painted as a Pathfinder Suli: none of the official artwork shows them as having discernible pupils.) 77511 Xiloxoch, Guardian Naga Gorilla from Bones 3 77232 Mogg, Bugbear Warrior

    Tabletop Bugbear

I managed to throw some paint around and get this guy finished as nameless mook number 3 for an evil overlord with an army. I really like this model, very characterful with plenty of options for conversion, so I may end up getting a couple more down the road. Any comments or advice appreciated.

Gourls Paints a Bundle of Bugbears

So I did up these gentlemen. I made up a story in my head about how they're a trio of brothers who jointly run the biggest, baddest band of bugbears in the land. They'd make decent-ish foils for some low-level adventurers I think. Nothing mind-blowing in hand but they'll look fine on the table, which is generally always my goal anyway. I tried to get some blood-spatter going on, but admittedly I've never really looked into how to go about it. I just drybrushed some red onto their weapons (and Mogg's shield, though you can't see it). It turned out well enough you can tell what it's meant to be I think, but I know there are some stellar examples of it out there. I'll have to look into that for next time.
  4. When I first ordered the 4 identical figures I am pretty sure they were the only bugbear sculpts available. Somewhere along the line I decided to pick up the others as well. These will ensure I am not lacking bugbears in my D&D games for sure. However I would still like a ranged figure or two, and a shaman at some point. 77232: Mogg, Bugbear Warrior 77231: Rugg, Bugbear Leader 77233: Kegg, Bugbear Hunter 77015: Bugbear Warrior

    Bugbears

Hi y'all! Real life has temporarily taken me out of the loop, and I haven't posted or checked in on this forum in a good long while. But I've at least been getting the occasional paint session in, and thought I'd put up a few of the things I've been working on. Here are the four Bones Bugbears, ready to put down the hurt on my D&D tabletop. I love these sculpts (by Tre Manor), and I think they are some of the minis that worked out really well in Bones (had to pin in a little metal rod in that spiked club though, as it was a bit too flexible). They were slightly too large for 25 mm bases, so I put them on Dragon Forge Design 32 mm Sanctuary bases (really love these for D&D dungeon critters). Anyway, I'm quite pleased with them, although they look quite rough when photographed. Hope you like em!

Very quick speed paints, hardly worhty of a show off thread but oh well here they are anyways 77233: Kegg, Bugbear Hunter 77232: Mogg, Bugbear Warrior 77231: Rugg, Bugbear Leader 77015: Bugbear Warrior x4 77388: Gnoll Warrior 77236: Bloodmane, Gnoll Warrior 77235: Toghra, Gnoll Leader 77234: Boneflail, Gnoll Cleric 77104: Blacktongue, Gnoll archer x2 77012: Gnoll Warrior x 4 (1 with modded weapon)
  7. In the month of September I was able to make headway on painting up the 7 bugbears I'd like to paint. These are a little above tabletop quality as I'm working to refine my glazing technique while still being able to crank out quality work in a more brief timeframe. I wanted each of my bugbears to appear to be of the same species while retaining their own unique skin tone. These three I finished in September. To me, Mogg has a rather "refined" or noble quality to him. I opted to have his colors reflect that, and instead of doing the white-out eyes of the other bugbears, I wanted to give him pin-pricks of white in an effort to reflect higher than average intelligence for a bugbear. Kegg on the other hand appears to be an enraged hunter, and his eyes reflect that more. The last bugbear is a metal Reaper figure I picked up as part of a pack. His flail was missing so I took the opportunity to use one of the axes I have from a Reaper weapons pack to swap it out. I like the result. All of these were painted with my Reaper round #1 brush using MSP. All lighting, shadows and other effects are painted and not tricks of photography. The front and back of Kegg's shield exemplify what I'm working toward.
  8. I'd done a Bones bugbear back just after I started painting again. At the time I tried to match him to a bugbear I'd painted years before for Chainmail. When I did him I used a lot of Partha paints. Those paints have since been passed to a friend since I'm using mostly Reaper now, with some Army Painter, P3 and Vallejo thrown in. So I decided to figure out some current colours that came close. They aren't the best pics, but I've been sick, so I'm happy I just got them finished by the end of the month. Over all they came out close enough to the originals as to look like normal variations to me. These guys are a little less orangy yellow, and there hair isn't quite as red. But I think they will do nicely. I did them all with the same colour kilt thingy as I've got two (or is it 3) more of each, so will do two more "squads" with different colours.

Bugbears in bones, Mogg, Kegg, Albino

Finishing off the bugbear horde. albino bugbear idea stolen from another poster. I have to keep all those bugbears with the same weapon distinct somehow.

    77232: Mogg, Bugbear Warrior

For the second mini of off the shelf of shame I have another bugbear. Mogg was the same as Rugg, I got tired of painting bugbears and saved him as a test subject. His shield was a test for the Scalecolor wood paint set. Mogg isn't actually sealed yet, but I had the camera out so I went ahead posted him
