  1. This is the second time I've painted her (the first was gifted out to a coworker). After I finished her I realized the Maxwell House color scheme of orange and blue fit the Chicago Bears as well.
  2. These are a couple of the animal companion sets that I painted for one of my players (minus the spider which I have not finished yet). I didn't want to paint the cat like a plain panther and I decided to use an ocelot as inspiration. My favorite is the little wolverine guy even though the photos make the river rocks look like pastel M&M's lol. My usual background got ruined so I have to make do until I get a new one printed or buy a fancy one. The bear looks better in hand and I used blacks and browns in his fur so he doesn't look so flat as he does in the photos. I am not happy with the fake snow and how it turned out. It looked really good when I put it on but not so good once the glue dried. I guess next time I will try baking soda and see how that works out. These are for gaming though so baking soda wouldn't have been the best choice probably. Anyway, here they are! C&C welcome.
  3. Had a little paint sesh with the elder digit today. Can you guess which I did and which was the ten year old's?
  4. Decided that I'm gonna do some quick and easy animals. Not much progress tonight, but then it was a late start...
  5. For Minivember I will try to do a different model each day (duplicates or similar models (from the same unit or suchlike still only count as one!). If you want to see the rest of my minivember minis, feel free to have a look at my painting blog..I won't be posting each and every one here, just the Reaper minis and maybe some that I find especially interesting. Yes, they will be speedpaints, just like all my minis. Seeing as I am starting out a week late, I have some catching up to do... Christmas is not too far off, and Critters are fun and here is Beary the Bear with Wolverinie the Wolverine (probably searching for Porcupiney the Porcupine, who is to carry the new Savior of Critterkind to be born on Christmas Eve. Unless the Mountain Lion eats them all. You know the story. Your common or garden variety Brown Bear and Wolverine. They might seem smallish, but that is just because they are in a natural/realistic scale, as opposed to the overlarge Dire variants we usually see in mini form. And anyway, what the Wolverine lacks in size, it makes up in sheer bloodymindedness! This one does not have any healing factor though. Bear and Wolverine and Magpie (or whatever is is supposed to be), from the 77216 Companion Animals set. Reaper Bones KS 2 Bonesium PVC Bear mounted on a round lipped 30mm base Wolverine and Magpie mounted on a 3x2cm oval base from Warbases
  6. I speed painted some bears and the snow leopard from the Animal Companions set in Bones (SKU 77216), The darker brown bear is from the metal Animal Companions set (SKU 3456).
  7. This week I painted the Bear figure from the Bones II Original Figures set. He is part of the Animal Companions set in the Reaper store. I chose to paint it up like a Black Bear and base it for Frostgrave. Nothing fancy; just a quick paint for game use. C & C welcome.
  8. Hello friends!!! Here is a little diorama I threw together for the Reaper Fan Contest that was being run on facebook. The goal was for a massive group of us to each produce a Ursula (Bones version) and have tons of participation to get everyone painting, to learn, and to see the various different iterations that could be thrown together. I couldn't just paint Ursula on the broccoli base, so I ended up with this small diorama because of texting with chaosscorpion and letting my imagination get the better of me. "Two matriarchs, each a leader by her own right, struggle for control of territory" In this scene Ursula has been led into a dangerous trap. The female goblin leader has taunted Ursula's mount into a deadly opening for a goblin spear while another goblin seeks to dismount Ursula. Hope you all enjoy!
  9. Dragon from 02399 Familiar Pack II by Sandra Garrity and Bear from Christmas Familiars.
  10. This is Jason Wiebe's Dire Bear sculpt. Really like this figure. I've posted a short video tutorial for the painting of this figure here: http://www.mageknightkevin.blogspot.ca/2014/11/video-tutorial-painting-reapers-dire.html Kevin in Edmonton http://www.mageknightkevin.blogspot.ca
  11. I got the Reaper Bones Animal Companion set (sku 77216)... and decided to paint them all at the same time. All I've done so far is put on the base coat, and the color layer. I did a little shading, but haven't done any highlights yet. Nor have I painted the bases (at all). Any thoughts or advice before I highlight them and do their bases?
  12. I must say, the small size of these models (especially the smaller of them) made this a nice challenge. I did my best to find reference photos of real animals to use as a basis for painting them, which was a big help. I have two sets of each of these, and with the exception of the wolf, wolverine, and bat, I painted the duplicates differently, to provide more variety. Here are pictures of the Animal Familiars: Bat, Crow, Red Fox, Weasel, and a 'black' cat. Bat, hawk, grey fox, ferret, and a brown-striped tabby cat. And here are pictures of the Animal Companions: Snow leopard, vulture, wolverine, wolf, brown bear. Black panther, falcon, wolverine, wolf, black bear.
  13. Couple experiments were done on this one this morning, one ongoing on the paint's durability. Just dropping it off here because Grumpy Cave Bear seemed interested in the WIP thread.
  14. Here are some pretty blurry pic of the spring exchange piece I made for MiniBart. He requested a winter scene and I immediately thought of this mini. Happy you like it buddy. :-)
  15. March was hard - I moved, Elderspawn had spring break and my mother-in-law stayed for 10 days. Most of what painting time I could scratch out was put into spring exchange minis. One green, and one unfinished, but I can't post pics yet. So I had to figure out what I could finish in the last three days of the month. I figured it was animals or troops. Bones 2 was short of troops so..... The Wolf, The Bear, and the Wolverine I also did a male lion, but missed the cat that was actually part of this set. The bird I skipped on purpose. Edit: added the Cat
  16. Long time ago I buid me a Barbarian Army with animal allies. Here is the unit filler from my horde. And the regiment. The Reaper Dire Bear and a Fenris Wolf from Gamezone. I know it seems like the Barbarians have no shadow. This is due to the camera, In real life they where washed with flesh wash. I sold the army years ago. So can't take new pics.
  17. Hi, Is not a reaper mini sorry :(... But it's a BIG bear ^^ , and i love Bears. http://www.coolminiornot.com/368430
  18. 02753: Werebear Brotherhood Of Tooth And Claw ______________________________________________________________________________________ I filed down his neck a bit to put his head at a tilt. Then Green Stuffed and blended it with the pattern of the fur. Washed in Reaper Brown Wash. Finished the eyes and working on the mouth. C&C Welcome!
  19. Werebear The WIP: 02753: Werebear Brothers Of Tooth And Claw Sige -------- Barton -------- Pa'oul -------- Dagmar Dust of the Colosseum - Part 1 The chants echo through the under belly of the Colosseum, “Pa’ oul, Pa’oul, Pa’oul.†The great bear from the Iron Forest, his legend is known through the region as The Breath. Mothers would warn their children, “If you ever find yourself in the Iron Forest be weary of The Breath, it’s the last thing you will see or feel before your death.†The cautionary tale seems harsh to those that know of the great deeds of Pa’oul the Guardian of the Hills of Iron. But now he stands waiting to be push into the ring to kill for the entertainment of the King of the West… *You stand at the gate, peering through the bars and focusing your attention on Pa’oul. He stairs you down and roars at you. Your soul quivers.* ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  20. Painted up my Christmas familiars. I'm keeping the seal, and giving the polar bear and the penguin to my two sisters for Christmas
  21. Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba...ba. ba..............Ba, ba, ba, ba.......ba Edit: I revisited him recently, touched him up, revised the water effects and took some better quality photos. This is an example of what the pics and paint job looked like before:
  22. So, I should explain a bit. My current campaign of D&D 4E has required me obtaining and painting multiple Medium sized Bear like minis. Said game has an Elven Sentinel Druid with a Bear Animal Companion that is also a Werebear! Since the game is rapidly approaching the level that Were-Bears can become a Hybrid form, I've had to work on finishing those minis. So without further ado, I present Peevo the Wonderbear and Dara Silverleaf's bear and Hybrid Forms! Peevo the Wonderbear Dara's Bear Form Dara's Hybrid Form Peevo has had a Badly made Fez with Tassle added to the original mini. Hybrid Dara originally had a weird Shovel-Battleaxe-thing. Chopped off the ends of those, added a brass stick, Glued a small green bead to the end of that and used some Procreate to add the "braided" root-like stuff. These are also the first minis I've painted since I got Prescription Magnifying eyeglasses. They have helped immensely! GF
  23. Some of you may have been following my WIP thread over in that section, but here is the finished product. I got a new camera for Xmas and have been experimenting with the photography and adjustments I need to make switching from taking shots with my iPhone 4 as I've done in the past. The cardiac ICU has been crazy for the past month, so this miniature has been quite the ongoing project; much more so than I usually put into a figure. I used MonkeySloth's 'ice base' technique for creating an icy riverbed with adjacent rock-scapes; I then added snow for scenic character. I hope you enjoy.
