  1. Effective May 2015 the CMPA is moving to the 3rd Saturday of each month. We will be meeting at Total Escape Games in Broomfield CO. The address is: 6831 120th Ave, Broomfield, CO 80020 3rd Saturday Dates: 5/16, 6/20, 7/18, 8/15, 9/19, 10/17, 11/21, 12/19 and 1/16/2016 There is an event calendar on our website: http://cominipainters.com/ and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ColoradoMiniaturePaintersAlliance
  2. I just want to praise local paint groups. We had our normal month paint meetup in Colorado this weekend, and each and every time I go, I love it. It is about painting, but really it is more social than anything. I rarely get a lot done at these (though I did this time due to Gene giving me some sculpting lessons). They just rock. So, if you don't have one in your area, I encourage you to start one. You learn lots of stuff, have good talks, and everyone, even the really good folks learn stuff.
  3. I'm starting a new thread as the CMPA has relocated again. The CMPA (Colorado Miniature Painting Alliance) meets on the second Saturday of each month from 10am - 4pm. We welcome painters of all levels of skill. Bring your paints, minis and brushes and get tips and advice from some of the best painters in the area. We are currently painting at Dark Matter Games (Suite O, 1050 S Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80226) at the corner of Wadsworth and Mississippi. We are back to averaging 10 - 12 painters a month so come on down and slap some paint around A word of warning! The sign for Dark Matter Games is still hanging over an empty store, don't panic! They are simply located at the other end of the building now (with no new sign yet). Find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ColoradoMiniaturePaintersAlliance Or http://www.cominipainters.com/
  4. Once again the CMPA (Colorado Miniature Painting Alliance) will be hosting the Painting Conference and Competition at Genghis Con XXXV. Genghis Con takes place February 13th - 16th 2014 at the Red Lion Hotel in Aurora CO (I-225 and Parker Rd). Genghis Con is run by the Denver Gamers Association (DGA) (their website is currently showing Tacticon, the Labor Day convention). Their website is here: http://www.denvergamers.org/ or you can find them on Facebook. The CMPA is currently getting its list of classes ready for the registration book the current list of classes from the notes handed out last Saturday include the following (there are typically multiple slots for most of these, except the more advanced classes like OSL and NMM): Setting the Scene; Advanced Basing Flesh and Faces Faking the Forge; Shaded Metallics OSL Basing for Beginners NMM Unit Painting Vignettes and Dioramas Mini Photography Basics for Beginners Blending Freehand Airbrush Demo Glazing Leveling Up (This is a preliminary list and is still subject to change) The current line up of instructors is: Michael Proctor Rhonda Bender (yes, Wren) Phil Esterle (although absent from the Reaper forums, still painting) http://www.fingolfin.net/ Lyn Stahl Torin Reed Plus a few to be named later. Normally Lili Troy also instructs but her hands will be full with a 1 year old at that point. We are also missing Jen Kaufman who has decided to take a break. The painting competition is a trophy format (1st, 2nd & 3rd) with multiple categories. Currently Dark Sword miniatures is confirmed for a $200 manufacturer award (nested in as part of the regular competition). I would expect to see at least one other manufacturer jump in as well. We are also a Crystal Brush qualifier event. I'll fill things in as more information is confirmed. Also if you are in the Denver area, please feel free to attend our regular 2nd Saturday painting get together. Currently meeting at Dark Matter Games (Mississippi and Wadsworth).
  5. I know this is really, really late but life has been decidedly hectic here. So Tacticon 2012 is this Labor Day weekend and in fact starts tomorrow night. The CMPA is running classes although not nearly on the scale that we run for Genghis con in February. The organizers have a new computer system in place so I can't check whether classes are full or not, but if nothing else folks are welcome to come down and paint with us. Naturally since painters like light we are banished to the lower level with no natural light again. The painting competition information is old but the basic rules still apply but it is a hybrid of the open or medal competition and a trophy competition. Bring your minis down and we will sort it out though. Tacticon takes place at the Red Lion Hotel in Aurora CO at the corner of I-225 and Parker Rd and runs from Thursday Night 8/30 to Sunday 9/2.
