    Darksword Wolf

I sculpted this wolf for Darksword last spring. I got a couple copies of it last week. Friday night, I decided to paint a version of it for a friend's 11 year-old girl who is crazy about wolves. When asked how she wanted it painted, she said tan with black stripes and spots. That took me a bit to get my head around, but I took the challenge and here is what I painted. It took me about 3 hours.
  4. I've had a lot of fun this august painting a bunch of miniatures. The first of them is that gorgeous sculpt from Darksword miniatures. Their figures have that old school fantasy look that it's really enjoyable, and a pleasure to paint. I love the character Medea, from Greek Mythology: my first idea was to copy the Medea on "Medea and Jason" from Pre-Raphaelite artist John William Waterhouse: but then I realized I've been using a red palette too much lately, so I changed to an orange-yellow one I've been wanting to try since I painted Ariel's wings. Since I've also abandoned the freehand arabesque I planned to paint and gived her a tan, the resemblance to what had to be is near to zero right now... Ultimately I'm happy with it, although I may have overhighlighted it. P.S. Thanks to the photo I realize now I painted her strabic....
  5. Pretty late in the mini to start a WIP but I could use some thoughts and suggestions, in particular in the area of contrast. I am looking to bring up the contrast on the scales but I don't want to shift to an orange or pink. The skin shows a decent contrast but to my eye it's more orange than red at this point. I love the different shading going on for each scale type but I want more from the upper body scales without going into orange and yellow. My challenge to myself this year is to gel my reds to be red. It's not an easy color to work with and a lot of these paints are either transparent or chalk when thinned. It has been a long road to get this far but I want a richer color. Thoughts would be welcomed along with critique. Pictures were snapped off my work bench but I will shoot for better ones this weekend. In the meantime... the photos are raw and taken without flash to try and show the pieces in the most natural light The body. Trying for three textures plus the crest. The heavy armored back scales are under layered with corpreal shadow to make them stand out, then shaded from a dark purple red to blood red. The body scales are undershaded with brick red and shaded up to a highlight of Phoenix red. The body skin on the arms starts at Gore red and shaded up to a lantern yellow. Problem is with the body. I would like more highlight but whatever I try changes the tone to either orange or pink. The head: still a work in progress. Needing to clean up the horns and again highlight without going to the orange or pink Upper side of wing. Looking pretty good although a set of missed mold lines is making me repaint the horns Wing underside. Subdued and darker as this part is solidly cast in shadow and the horns are in the process of being repainted... again So thanks again for anyone who would like to help out.

    Darksword - Frog Hunter

Well..let keep it busy, so starting a new minis / scenery with this cute frog and it bumblebee :) Just to change from the big muscle fighter guys or the green guy haha ( well frog skin may tend to be greenish though...) So very first beginning..as I do usually zenithal prime on the figure..and blocked out my base shape ( this one I am going to use the water texture from Vallejo, thus the hole made in the base )

    Reaper & Darksword Minis

Hi It's been a while since I've posted. Here are my most recent minis painted in November/December. Also my first two Darksword mini's are in the group. I'll try to get better at photography, I made a Light box, but the results weren't good, so I just placed the mini's on the desk. Can't decide flash or no flash, I feel the flash brings out the highlights more though. Also the mini's have a weird mix of NMM attempts and Metallic paints. Mini's are; Anduriel - Reaper Bjorn - Reaper Maria - Reaper Trista - Reaper Petyr - Darksword Roose - Darksword Thanks for Looking

    Chipmunk mage and Cloud Giantess

Heya! Just started two new projects and I am excited to share. I didn't know which one to do first so I prepped them both. This is my first time at a resculpt. Nothing major. I covered the mold lines on Yephima's hair and on her back. For the chipmunk mage, resculpted the tortoise shell because I didn't think there was enough definition. Also I had to fix the scroll because there was a hole. I am undecided on the color schemes, but for Yephima I am thinking a clouds at sunrise palette. Any thoughts from you folks?
  13. I'm going to be playing in a second D&D group starting in a couple of weeks so I decided to get started on painting up my new character. I'm using darksword miniatures male warrior as my 2-handed vengeance paladin. It's really the only two handed weapon sculpt I could find that I really liked. I decided to just leave him on his base with how the sword is. I had to assemble the hand with the sword as there were two options for weapons, the greatsword and a great axe. Mold lines really weren't too bad. I decided to go with a red cloak since he's going to be from the order of the gilded eye. Their symbol looks to be a red background with a white gauntlet with an eye on the fist. I don't think I'm going to add the symbol to the cloak. Maybe if he had a shield I would give some freehand a try. Most of the base base coating is completed and I got started on the eyes. The armor I base coated a dark grey as I plan to highlight up from there to make the armor white. So the only areas the base coat should be showing is the shaded areas. I might add or subtract some gold details on the armor as I progress. Also the boots seem like they should be leather the more that I look at the details. For the most part they don't look too bad. I'm going to try and get the black outline a little thinner when I do the skin. Also the left eye is a little larger than the right, but I don't think it looks too bad. I'm undecided on touching it at this point because I don't want to really mess it up.

    DSM: Angelica

Angelica is finally finished. I went back to my WIP thread, and I realized I started her over a year ago. She has been sitting on my desk waiting to be based for a while now. I decided to go with a relatively simple base. I really enjoyed painter her up.. I hope you enjoy seeing her finished up. I certainly do. Thanks for looking and any C&C you feel to give.

    Dragonkin Rogue - Dark Sword

Heck yeah! I almost spiked the mini when I saw how nice the pics came out. Been struggling for 4 years now to take a good pic. For a friend, 2 more Dragonkin to go (one Reaper and another Dark Sword) oh and here are some larger pics for my picture sized challenged friends out there....
  18. A ranger from Darksword that my winning Patron chose for their commission prize this quarter. A really fun model, and exquisitely sculpted. The face is phenomenal. I also need to adjust my white balance. Everything is coming out a bit flat and on the red end.

    Dragonkin Mage - Darksword

A friend has me painting up a bunch of these Darksword dragonkin models for a campaign. Experimentations galore in this one, especially to try and speed up painting the cloak and skin (used reapers clear paints.) I have been a Reaper paint man for quite some time, but recently picked up some citadel shades and have been nothing but happy with them. Their blue shade over the green/yellow skin gave just the desired effect. They also don't appear to be as matt as Reapers paints, most cases I prefer more matt, but in this case the reptilian skin seems to have just the right amount of gloss. Also used Vallejo's satin varnish (another new purchase) for the armor which protects and keeps it shiny without looking wet like the normal gloss would or destroying the shine like most of the matt varnishes I have used.
  20. This is a mini I finished for my cousin :) She loves Pugs and is constantly posting cute Pug videos so of course when I saw this mini I had to buy it and paint it for her. She also fosters a lot of dogs - her current foster just had 11 puppies!! (If you're in ID and looking for a pup, PM me ;)) Anyway, remember Adopt, Don't Shop! This is pretty much tongue in cheek/cute - I don't believe it's unsafe for family etc, but just in case, I'll be polite and spoiler :) (Next time I'll try to remember to take a picture before I ship the mini ><)

    Sansa Stark -Darksword

Sansa Stark model from Darksword Miniatures. A friend request since he needed some kind of aristocratic elfish character for a campaign of his. So not really painted to look like Sansa. With Reaper Baron Tervin model. Since he was a young man he has fought battles both on the field and in the shadows silently in her name. Aware of his love for her, she perceives him as far too brash and foolish. Although he hasn't changed much in her eyes over the years, she has come to love him just the same.

    Darksword Tiefling Bust

Apologies in advance for the poor pictures, still really struggling when it comes to photographing the larger stuff. Any how, presenting my first attempt at painting a bust, Darkswords Portrait of a Tiefling:- You can find a WIP thread for her here. Don't think she looks too bad, but I'm not sure if I'll get any more busts in the future though, I don't really have the patience or skill to paint this larger scale stuff. As always, any comments of criticisms are greatly appreciated..
  23. Yep, I am also jumping on this bandwagon. Haven't painted a bust before, so lets see how badly I screw this up. Got her assembled this morning in the hope of getting started on the painting later today, but I had some gaps to fill (she went together quite well, but my superglue kept drying before I could get the parts completely flush), so I'm leaving the green stuff to dry over night.

    Cathedral of the Forest

This is the Cathedral of the forest from dark sword miniatures. The inspiration for the diorama was the artwork the mini is modeled from. I had to simplify it a bit to make it fit inside the sphere. The trees I made myself with copper wire and green stuff. The butterfly's are from Busch. I am happy how it turned out.. Making clear pictures of the sphere is still difficult.
