Continuing along with completing my Bones 1 KS painting and blogging challenge, I completed the Dolly Familiar figure this week. This leaves me just 3 figures left to paint and post of the 266 I got in the first Bones KS. This was a fun little figure to paint; but like many, I was at first confused as to what the little blob of white plastic was supposed to represent. A few quick searches here on the forum led me in the right direction. :) For the full step-by-step blog painting article, see: Dolly
So, I had a dolly I had tried and it worked fairly well, so I decided that using dollies was a pretty nifty time saver. To that end, I have started into the process of making myself six specific dollies that I can then cast as often as I need them. From left to right, I have halflings, dwarves, and humans. I'll be making one for each gender in those races. Of course, the human dolly can double for elves or half-orcs (maybe even kitsune or nagaji, if needed). The halflings will work well for gnomes or wayangs or goblins. The dwarves...well, they're probably just going to be for dwarves. (I included some minis for height reference, though my bases are a bit taller). Anyway, the idea here is to just get the good musculature and bare body shape done (but G-rated). I'll post more as I move along with it, but I think it's off to a good start. I went for a generically rocky base as it could be cobblestone of just a rough cavern floor, so it fits more settings than wooden planks of tile flooring would. Comments, compliments, concerns, questions, and such are always welcome :=)
