  1. I'm back after a short break - Welcome everyone, to the 2017 Secret Sophie thread! What is Secret Sophie, you ask? Well, it's a lot like Secret Santa, with a more attractive (albeit more dangerous) delivery person! (For those not in the know, Sophie the Succubus is Reaper's mascot.) This is the time of year for Reaper forumites to give a little holiday cheer to each other. Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange. Signups will run from October 5th to October 15, with the assignments going out by the 19th (so those who are going to ReaperCon can have a shopping list). If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out. The organizers (fanguad, robinh) then match you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP. You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out. That's pretty much it, feel free to ask questions in this thread, or PM them to me. This exchange is based on trust. Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you. I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one. The Rules (tl;dr version) Gifts should be primarily new, Reaper-branded presents. Exchanging painted miniatures is optional. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must send the organizers a WIP of their mini by December 1st. The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 15th. The deadline for painters is January 15th. Full Rules Decide whether you are doing gift and miniature exchange or gift-only exchange. "Gifts" are Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies. Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. The miniature exchange is where you paint a Reaper miniature for someone and mail it to them. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. Fill out the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini to either this thread, or as a reply to your organizer, by December 1st. The mini should be at least base-coated by this time. If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to demote you to gift-only or drop you from the exchange. Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. In the past some people have wanted to send food - please verify allergens, etc. with your partner before proceeding. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved. We don't want any trouble with customs. As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. If you want to participate but acquiring Reaper minis is a problem, please contact me first. The organizers (fanguad, robinh) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun! Deadline The deadline for mailing gifts is December 15th. The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 15th, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas. Assignments Deadline The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (October 18th). Please let me know if you're interested by the 15th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant robinh will be helping me run this exchange. He will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants. You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues. 2. This was painted as my gift to @Talae for the Summer Exchange 2017. The criteria of interest was steampunk or water, with a demonstration of NMM. The Automaton fit the NMM criteria well, and is mostly steampunk, so I ran with in. The orange parts are supposed to be copper. This is the first time I've tried a NMM copper and used a Scale75 NMM set. Thoughts? Comments and Critiques welcome.
  3. Got my base coats on and a top glaze on the back..
  4. Finally remembered to post these up. I got minibart's name for the Spring Exchange. I'd been hoping to get him since he sent me an awesome fig last year. He was looking for something Victorian and/or Steampunk. I went through a number of idea about what I wanted to do, wasted far too much time on elaborate plans, and finally settled on a slightly simpler plan, and still managed to be late sending it..... With the Lord and Dame I wanted to tie them together with some cross over of colour. Hopefully that was somewhat successful. The Lord came out fiarly well, I though. I'm not sure if what I was trying with the hat came across as well as it could of. I was really happy with the vest, though it may not show up well in the picture. I used Ruby Red to highlight Gothic Crimson, which gave it a nice satiny shine. Apparently all my shots of his back are blurry, and he's on a different continent now. But dark grey coat of light grey pants, not too exciting anyway. The Dame is a lovely figure and a joy to paint. I had a great time painting her, other that realizing that I'm missing at least one paint in each green triad I wanted to use.... And whenever I paint anything that could be considered Steampunk-y I love to throw in a West Wind Infernium Hound.
  5. 14564: Kosumi, Frostfang Huntress

This is the mini that I painted for Fanguad for the Spring Exchange. Got it out late due to life interfering and had to be satisfied with a more simple paint job then originally planned. Please excuse the photo quality, I had no time to get everything out to take proper ones.
  6. This is the model I received from @hiddenone32 as part of the Spring 2017 Exchange. Here's some better pics that don;t include my grubby mitts Great piece. Great paint job. Thanks.
  7. 14132: Yagun Oog, Revan Mage

Painted for the 2017 Spring Exchange. Safely received by Jasper_the_2nd

  9. So, I cannot hold it in anymore. I must Share the results of my hard work before I explode or something. If you have NOT gotten a Secret Sophie Package Proceed at your own risk!!!!! -------------------------- -------------- So first off the piece of Cork on her behind was removed as soon as I saw that it was there in the Pictures. So, I painted up Yephima the Giantess as a Fire Giantess. My Partner for this Exchange Was . They did not have a lot of preferances as far as requests. just some thing cool. So, Fire. :P GF
  10. TURN UNDEAD! - A Winter Exchange

As I'm sure most of you do in these exchanges, I end up picking parts of the request to focus on. In this case I went with a winter base and OSL. Generally when we think of OSL we think of a mini painted with a zenithal light source and then the OSL is a secondary light source that colors part of the mini. I decided to do something different though and make the OSL my primary light source. Initially I wasn't going to have any secondary lighting, but that made things a bit boring from certain angles so I added in some moonlight. In the scene below the primary light source is the end of the staff. Anything illuminated by the staff I painted "normally," though with the highlights and shadows were orientated to it and not zenithal. Anything not lit by the staff is lit by desaturated "moonlight." For some reason I had difficulty getting the light balance correct on the photos but it's still pretty close. The mini itself. Here we start with normal colors: But as we get to her back the light desaturates until eventually the light source is blocked. Also, a bit of freehand. And a bit of milliput dust on the black base. It wiped off but I didn't redo the photo shoot. From the side you can see how I tried to put all of the highlights towards the staff with deeper shadows further away. The base. So far the battle has not gone well for the undead. I cut two of them apart so they could be caught in the moment of being blown apart. The inner light is a bit subtler on the armored skeleton. The eyes are so deep that you can only see the brightest parts from a very small angle. Now that I think about it I would have been better off to fill the sockets and freehand the surface. Ah well, for next time. : Here's probably the angles where you can really see the desturated vs lit areas best. And the top view. I don't currently have a way to do a light box for this angle on something this size so it is just sitting out on the table. I think these might have turned out the most color accurate though. I used some crackle medium to make the ice, and didn't realize that it did not adhere very well. My first drybrush took some of it off and I had to put it back in place. One thing I couldn't quite decide on was the cast shadows. Normally I just consider the scene to just end like it has been chopped off, but that leaves a gap of vertical snow in some places. Maybe I should have taken them down to the wooden base... I had initially planned on more freehand, but ran out of time. Thanks for looking.

Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don’t know. -Special Requests- For the organizer, your painter, or your recipient: Also, if anyone has a holiday-themed miniature you've painted that I can use to grace the OP of this topic, send me a PM with a link to forum thread or inspiration gallery entry.
  12. When I fill out my questionnaire for the exchanges, I like to give lots of options for people to choice from. For example, I mention that I have CAV:SO figures (and hope to play someday....). One of the other things I mention is that I collect rabbit minis (it all goes back to the Doom Bunny...). I never really thought anyone would ever combine those two.... What an awesome and creative piece Kangaroorex came up with! I love it!! (Although I may never look at a Starhawk VI the same way....) I don't know where he found the little car but it is perfect.
  13. I got Keianna's name for the Summer Exchange (if you don't know about the exchanges, go check out the Mini Exchanges & Paint Contests section of the forums!). One of the things she was looking for were Steampunk heroes or villains. I've been painting a fair amount of Steampunk lately and quite enjoy it, but wasn't sure what to paint. So I loaded up my cart with assorted Reaper Steampunk figs that I hadn't already done and waited for them to arrive. Once they got here I was really taken with Smedley. It's really a wonderful sculpt with lots of interesting details. So he got painted up. I really like this fig, so much so that I have another one in my cart waiting for me to finalize my order. He seemed to need some more vibrant colours than I usually use, so really pushed me, but I had a great time painting him. I was very happy that OneBoot was doing her Khanjira at the same time, or I might have forgotten I had a bottle of Witchcraft Purple. I turned out to be (to me) the perfect colour. I still haven't decided if he is a hero or a villain though....
  14. The Last Spring Exchange 2016 Show-Off Ever!!

So, yeah late! But I got my Package and am sending out one in a couple days. So, first what I got... Not sure who exactly sent it, but it is awesome:) And what I'm sending... Dual Wielding Beer and Blade, Kerdak Bonefist from the Reaper Pathfinder line. I'll be sending a few bitz of extras with the package. Hoping it will make them "Howl" in thanks:P GF
  15. Spring Exchange from Tarlen

YAY! I have just received a package that spent many a day at sea (which might explain the complexion) ! Not only was I anxious to see the content but my wife texted me from work as she couldn't wait to hear what was in the box either. All I can say was... I was not disappointed... I have this lovely mini and her companion from Tarlen. This is my spring exchange! The challenge was to use Orange on the mini and he pulled it off with great success. I know you forumites just want pictures .. so you shall get pictures First set is of the complete scene (I apologize in advance for my very poor photography skills) And the the close ups! The dog Then the main character (which is a bones mini that did not make production) so bonus to me .. one of a kind! And finally (had enough yet?) the whole delivery which included some local treats (and yes I have sampled one already..could not resist) Thanks and this one joins my shelf of honor for all my exchange trophies (can you spot it?)
  16. Welcome to the 2016 Summer Miniature Exchange! This is the thread for coordinator announcements, questions, letting people know that packages have be mailed or received, and other "official"-ish stuff. You can also use this thread to talk, get suggestions, and show off the awesome mini that your partner sent you. If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out (please don't just send an old one, as the questions may have changed). I then match you with a person whom you will paint a mini for, and a second person whom you will receive a painted mini from (sometimes it's the same person). You have until the deadline to send your mini out (please try really hard to do this, though we understand if sometime life gets in the way). That's pretty much it, feel free to PM me with questions. The organizers will do our best to keep things running smoothly, and we ask that everyone keep us up to date with your progress on a regular basis. You can send a PM or post in this thread, even just a "I'm still procrastinating" message is helpful to know you haven't forgotten or disappeared. For this exchange, we're moving to three months of painting time. This should be more than enough time for even the slowest or busiest painter - get started early so you don't keep your partner waiting. Signups will run from May 15th to May 25th, with assignments going around June 1st. Miniatures should be mailed by August 31st. How does it work? (tl;dr version) Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Paint your partner a mini and mail it to them by August 31st. Full Rules Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. There is no hard and fast rule, but keeping the value less than the price of a single miniature is a good rule of thumb. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, as some of the questions may have changed. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved. We don't want any trouble with customs. For example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. The organizers (fanguad, SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun! Deadline The deadline to mail out miniatures for this exchange will be three months from when assignments are sent out, on August 31st. Assignments Deadline The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (June 1st). Please let me know if you're interested by the 25th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant SGHawkins09 will be helping me run this exchange. She will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants. You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues. 2016 Summer Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Information- Name: Address: -Miniature Information: Outbound- What can you paint? 17. 14055: Marcus Gideon, Crusaders Hero

This is the mini that I painted for Minibart for the Spring Exchange. His requests were pretty easy: fantasy; forest scenic base; and no undead. No undead was easy as I do not have many of them so I focused on something that stood out to me that would work on a forest base. I went with Marcus and blind me did not realize that he is an undead hunter until I started base coating him and realized he has stakes. I had a few issues with him: the gold painting was not cooperating and the texture I attempted on his cloth was not coming out how I wanted. But I got him done and in the end, I am happy with him.
  18. My exchange recipient this spring was Evilhalfling and he was looking for an example of monochrome. Now I'm certainly no expert on it, but my first attempt worked out ok so I figured I'd give it a shot, and I'd just recently ordered a Rowena for myself (which I still need to remember to order again) and I figured all the layers and textures would make for an interesting exercise in monochrome. (Note to anyone starting out in monochrome, do not start with a figure with a whole much of different layers and textures.... ). She was a challenge for me but in the end I think she came out pretty decent. Part way through I realized I didn't really know how to paint ribbon at all (ribbon isn't really big in goblin or ogre fashion this year...) so that took a few days of research. And while researching monochrome painting a found an interesting video of someone doing a warjack and he used a black/silver metallic with it that I really liked, so the metal parts ended up going that way. Then while asking some advice from the Monochrome Master, Corporea, introducing some brassy colours came up. So overall, quite happy. And if I don't use Pure Black or Pure White again for the rest of the year, well, I''d be ok with that.....
  19. Spring Exchange from Teskeria

For my spring exchange I requested a fantasy bad guy and for the colour scheme I suggested "throw some purple in" because purple is my favorite colour Well, Teskeria delivered this bad-arse lady. As well as these three spiffy bases: My mother in law was with me when I opened the package and commented that "anyone with that colour hair is definitely evil!" Thanks Mom! Anyway, she's gorgeous and I just love her. Hubby is preparing an NPC just for her

  21. Artist Trading Cards

Artist Trading Cards Some of us are playing around creating hand-made Artist Trading Cards and swapping them via the mail. ATCs are hand drawn or painted cards using markers, pencil, chalk, ink etc, on standard playing card sized pieces of paper (or other materials sufficiently flat enough to fit into a card-sleeve). Technical details: Finished size is: 2.5" x 3.5" (64 mm × 89 mm) — this is the size of a standard playing card. This thread is for showing off the cards created for this exchange. Senders, recipients, or both are encouraged to post pix of the cards. _________________ Participants in the first round: DogBL, Sirithiliel, Tarsemina, Morihalda, TGP, Pingo, Inarah, & Tarsemina Participants in the second round: Pcktlnt, Jay, djizomdjinn, Morihalda, TGP, Pcklnt, Inarah

  24. This is the miniature I painted for SGHawkins09 for the Secret Sophie '15 Miniature Exchange. She requested Christmas colors, so I obliged. Conveniently, the same colors as my Koldun Lord. I gave her a decorative base, which started out with some bark someone gave me at ReaperCon, but I think my attempts to put snow and gravel on it made it worse than just the bark painted up as rocks. Not my best face (and of course the super-closeup makes it look worse)... all my army painting recently made it a bit difficult to get back into the groove of painting as nicely as possible.
  25. Silvervane sent me THIS!

So, I received this Awesome Evil Cleric From Silvervane for the Fall Exchange. I had asked about Non-Metallic Metal since I've never seen it up close and stuff. Well, This arrived recently and it is AWESOME! Have a Look-See! So, Awesome huh? GF
