  1. Right. So, I've been mumbling about this for a while. For me, this is an Ambitious Project (sezzhe who's done a Goblin Challenge). But I don't usually do bases, and I don't paint past 'table top', so ... this is gonna be a thing. This is a Thing I might both enter - if I can get myself to Reapercon - and will definitely be a gift. I have an uncle who's favorite mythological critter is centaurs, and I'm painting it for him. So, here's in her blister, bits and mold-lines and all. Glue's drying on her cork, post cleaning. I let that cure for a good long while, because her footprint is pretty small. ... actually, 'pretty small' doesn't quite cover it. Here we have her post-priming, with her new base in the background. No, I wasn't planning on using the one she comes with. ^^; And, here we have basic colours slopped on. Well. Slopped... It's not as good a picture; I'm having to pick angles because she's pretty nekkid, other than her quiver. Obviously, she's going to be a dark bay on the horse-end. I have some pictures to work with, but she might be less red when I get done. I'm sort of thinking of a specific mare while doing this, and she was a dark bay.

With a backdrop I think I know now how some of the other folks around here must feel.... I am Immortalized in Miniature! Also a surprise I get to paint a Malefactus' Original!!!! Thanks so much Mal! Nativity Set Xherman1964

I have painted up the Nativity Set as a gift for my girlfriend's parents. They will get it close to the holidays. I added the sheperd with sheep, the donkey and a cow. All Reaper miniatures: https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01430 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01433 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01439 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/cow/sku-down/03719 I put the whole set under a dome. And made some barn soil with putty. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69198-nativity-scene-as-a-gift-by-xherman1964/ Only after all was glued together I noticed a small bit of yellow brown on the sheperd's clothing, oh well, let's assume he got a bit dirty dealing with the animals... I hope they will like the gift..
  4. So as some of you know, I painted up a mini as a gift for our resident barbarian, to give to him at ReaperCon... (Background story and WiP Here) However, being in a hurry to get things done for Con, I never did take any show off pics.... So I asked Ub3r to take some, and he just sent them, and now I'll post them for you all to see! Thanks for looking! And thanks again Ub3r! George
  5. So to set the stage.... This noob on the forums joins a mini exchange..... the person he is painting for asks that he challenge himself by only using 1 bottle of Red, 1 Blue, 1 Black, and 1 White..... Said noob is the type that buys paints in quintads (5 paint colors) so he doesn't have to mix paint, has just learned that he can thin paint before adding it to a mini, wet palettes are the Lords of Lead's gift to a painter, etc etc.... So what does any noob to the Reaper forum do when they have a question? PMs Ub3r_N3rd.... Said Ub3r_N3rd is very nice, patient, and helpful to said noob, even though his in box is coming near to bursting from pms.... The mini gets painted to a Not Perfect, But Acceptable standard, the diorama is built, the whole thing shipped out, and received.... But, said noob feels that he is in debt to his benefactor, and wants to do something nice for him..... so while looking through the Hasslefree catalog online, which said noob also learned about from our beloved enabler, he sees a mini called "My Hero"... Problem is, I am not a girl, so the original thought wont work, painting the mini to look like me saying thanks to my rescuer.... But I bought the mini anyway, thinking maybe I could do something.... So as I got to know Ub3r a bit better, and find out things about him, I thought that maybe, I could try and do this as his wife welcoming him home.... As I did not think that she would appreciate being painted up almost sky clad, I thought that I could sculpt some clothes on her, and split the base into a mini diorama, with her on the real life side, and him as his forum personae.... Little did I know that 'drapery', putting clothes on a mini is one of the harder parts of sculpting, but I had an ace in the hole.... Enter the New England Miniatures Painters Association member and forumite Mad Jack.... I asked him at a paint day if he would take a commission, what I wanted, and what it was for, and he agreed! (I will let him make his own comments here....) He did a super duper awesome job for me and I proceeded to work this up.... There was a selected group of folks that I pm ed with a work in progress, so I am going to cut and paste that here, without their comments, they can add them themselves if they wish.... (Edit, I had to edit some stuff that was needed for this to work....) Sent 02 September 2016 - 06:38 PM OH Jack.... She is beautiful!!!!!! Here they are, right out of the package..... now i need to gently clean them, and make the base, and prime..... Sent 02 September 2016 - 07:58 PM Yeah, gotta step up my game for this... Sent 05 September 2016 - 02:15 AM So I did the base in 2 parts, a smaller fan style brick, and a courser dungeon stone for them to stand on... The plan is to have her on the fan style, with the brick painted like a tiled floor, while he is on the dungeon floor with stuff growing through the cracks etc Everything has been primed so I can start.... I forgot to mention Jack threw this in as well... It got started with some Arabic Shadow... Thanks for looking! George (Never did finish the little skull mug, but I gave it to Ub3r at the con....) Sent 06 September 2016 - 02:15 PM So, black, and we all know how much fun that is to paint.... So I am thinking Dark Blue for the dress, with Black shoes.... The barbarian will likely have some sort of tan leather pants, brown boots, and manly chest hair.... I guess that painting chest hair would be like 5 o'clock shadow? a little grey mixed in with the skin tone???? Thoughts or comments????
  6. This is Reaper's 50159: Sister Maria, Nun, sculpted by Patrick Keith. I have a friend who once was a nun, who now writes murder mysteries. Some while ago I made a joking reference to my hobby of painting tiny D&D characters and out of curiosity she took a look at Reaper's main site. Which just happened at that moment to have this figure at the top of the page. She was tickled. We are planning a trip by her part of the country this summer, and hopefully we will be able to meet up for a visit. So I am painting up Sister Maria as a present. Basic prep involved gluing her to her base and gluing in her left hand. I chose the ruler option. I had trouble pinning and in the end just glued her hand into place. Then I primed her thinly with Titanium White and washed her with Burnt Umber (not shown). This is my basic prep for all metal minis. I checked with my friend what the colors of her order had been. Then I started with a little white on the nun's habit. I painted solid Mars Black on her dress and along the base edge. I'm a little sorry I did, actually, because it's so black and solid there's little room to go. Normally when I paint blacks I like building up layers of color like a watercolor. Then I did a little preliminary brushing of highlights in a very simple cold grey. This is very rough and crude yet.
  7. This was a thing I did for my girlfriend for Christmas. She always refer to herself as a sloth because she likes to sleep, and is a fan of Sid from Ice Age. :P The base is far to big to fit in my photo-case, though:
  8. I wanted to paint Mary for my oldest stepdaughter, she is into synchronised swimming and I believe part fish. Since she is also a bit of a scrooge I added a bit of treasure. Off to the start, Sculpted a rock with millyput. There will be more to follow.

PC for Fate game (50305: Benedict Baker)

Elliot Greenspar : Questing Elf Scientist - PC for FATE (50305: Benedict Baker) setting Hapsburg empire 1790. Christmas Gift for a player in my game. the small piece of paper the miniature was carrying was uncharacteristic, so I sculpted a notebook for him. most of the campaign has taken place in wilderness/outdoor settings, so that's how I did the base.
  11. Made this for someones' birthday. :)
  12. The girl next door requested a dragon for her birthday, after she saw me give one to somebody else. I really hate giving away miniatures, because I feel my painting is not good enough for displaying to random people. But.. What can you do? :P Soo.. I figured I'd give it a go. Been working on these two on and off since yesterday evening: Based one black, the other white: The Valkyrie stood very low, so I sculpted a stand for her with a cork and some Fimo: Didn't fit perfectly with the ridges, but I think I can get away with it as a whole: And this is just about how it stands at the moment: I'd happily take some advice on base clutter. Something to make it more interesting.. I figured I'd just add some stones?
  13. Last year I saw my daughters watching Twilight. Sparkling vampires, Of course I had to show them where that came from. So I showed them Buffy and Angel series, The oldest one was hooked. So I made her this: She loved it, she keeps it in her room now.
  14. PROJECT...Shanty town outhouse (gift for a friend)... DATA...On August 6, 2014...I displayed a shanty shack that I built as a gift for one of the Reaper members who has become a close friend...this is the outhouse that goes with that shanty shack...My son and I just returned from a luncheon meeting where I delivered both the shanty shack and outhouse. I really enjoyed building these 2 small pieces and hope that my friend (ub3r) enjoys the final results. Paul (Catdancer)
  15. So, Dispatchdave painted me up a couple of minis for the Winter Exchange. These things are... I cannot express just how much I love these. The colors used on Darkrasp are gorgeous. I love his skintone in particular. The robes are wonderful and (since things were a bit rubbed off when he got here), I touched up his chains and scythe. I did the scythe with a very pale blue, white brushed on top in a streaky pattern. The visbaronesses face is my favorite bit (after that, the lovely autumn color selection). It's just stunning. the puffed up, slightly reddened cheeks, the perfect eyes, the amazing hair. DD, you've seriously made me happy. Thank you so much for the fantastic miniatures!
