  1. I haven't posted anything in a while now, but I have been painting quite a bit. Unfortunately I just haven't been able to get good pictures lately. I think it might be because I finished my hobby room now take pictures downstairs in the basement with less natural light. Sadly It means I had to abandon my dungeon setting for pictures and go to regular photo back grounds, But at least I now have a set up that works for taking pictures now. So I'll be playing catch up for little while with posting some things I've gotten done lately. So With out further ado, this was my Gencon MHE contest entry for this year, a Noh Empire squad. I actually got a bronze this year even though my group base was still really rough. I was super happy about that Bronze! Like I said my group base was really rough and unfinished, but I don't think it counted against me since it was sort of optional anyway. Marikan To was my first major attempt at lining. Mostly on her wraps and on her quiver. I think her skin needed more highlighting but I'm not really sure how to highlight smooth skin yet. The Beastmaster I think turned out pretty good. I was very happy with the faces on his armor. His skin looks like it could use a touch more shade, but otherwise I'm happy. The Hounds of Nozuki were a bit tricky since their fur had no detail I had to try and figure out how to make it look interesting (I had the same issue with Marikan To's hair). I think they turned out ok. I was getting a little burned out on the bases by the time I got to these guys. Marikan To's bird companion. His base took the longest and he was just about the last figure I finished since I wasn't entirely sure how and where I wanted his coloration. Thanks for looking. Let me no if you have any comments, critiques or advice for next time. I'll post some other stuff I've finished tomorrow.
  2. Hey I'm attempting something crazy for Gen con this year, and I need a little help. I am doing a diorama for the MHE painting competition, and the title for the piece is kind of an important part of it. Is it common or acceptable to have the title engraved to put on the base? If not, what is a good way to make the title known? This is something I've never done before so any advice (including general diorama advice would be appreciated. I wasn't planning on doing a WIP, just puting the picture up in Show off after Gen con assuming I get it done in time.
  3. My Gen Con entry for this year. Overall I'm very happy with her. It's one of the best faces I've done so far. Had a lot of trouble assembling her though. The spear arm gave me fits as it snapped off several times and afterwards I couldn't seem to get it on straight and without gaps again. eventually I was able to fill it with a tiny amount of green stuff. Also had a little trouble pinning her to the base. You can tell she's not exactly flat on it, she actually floats a tiny bit above it and I just couldn't seem to fix it. Also she's leaning, less now than she was but she's still leaning. I tried to do some OSL with the parts of the spear near her hand but I just couldn't make it look right. So I abandoned that idea for now.
  4. Gen Con 2016

Gen Con Badges go up today and Hotel shenanigans begin on Sunday! Who's all planning to go so far? The wife and I will be there. (assuming hotel shenanigans can be convinced to go our way again this year.)
  5. DSM 7427 Male Warrior with Battle Axe

Here was my main entry for the Gencon MHE competition this year. Every year, I spend a lot of time painting a few minis, then enter any gaming miniatures I have that fit the categories. He got a gold award from the main competition, received a judge's choice award, and took home the 4th place Dark Sword trophy. I really love this mini- the biggest trouble I had painting him up was that Jim (owner of Darksword) owns a fantastic version of him painted by Zach Lanier. A lot of the decisions that I made on him kept this sort of meta-thinking in mind (ie, when Jim and Jess were judging the contest, I didn't want them to be comparing him to Zach's mini too much). I think I came out with an interpretation of this mini that is all my own. I've also posted him to Coolmini, for anyone who cares to vote.
  6. This is the other mini I entered in the Gencon painting contest. I was hoping to give his eyes a little bit of glow but I don't think I managed it. I was really running out of time with him. He did photograh well at least. He was much less of an elf than the minotaur.
  7. 77251: Bloodhoof, Minotaur Barbarian

Here is the first of the two minis I entered into the painting contest at gencon This was my first attempt at greenstuffing a base and I'm fairly happy with it. Unfortunately I failed to get all the mold lines off of this guy as I spotted the on the top of his axe too late. I also painted the other minotaur from the set but he didn't get quite finished in time. I'll likely post him soon as he is almost done. Of the two though I like this one the most. Still trying to figure out the best way to take pictures and this guy was being a real elf about it for some reason. Hopefully some of these look ok.
