    Giant Foo Dog (Bones 3)

I enjoy the fact that bones 3 had a good selection of minis that I can paint up for my Rokugan collection. Technically, foo creatures don't exist in Rokugan (except as possessed statues), but I think they make perfect good aligned ally monsters. It was nice to finish something from Bones 3; it helps me justify Bones 4.
  2. Swimming holes can be dangerous places in Rokugan. Ive always liked painting elementals, and rokugan has many. The Clan War elementals definitely have a more sinister feel which belie their wicked demonic nature. painting water always poses a challenge. I went with a more green algae pool look with this one, to help differentiate it from my other water elementals that have a bluer hue. It was a nice color palate to work with and I had a lot of fun painting the highlights.
  3. More from the realm of Rokugan! The kumo are tainted spirit creatures that are wickedly evil. They are spider-like, large, intelligent, highly magical, man eating shapeshifters - the stuff of nightmares. I completed these during my recent "staycation" paint binge. those legs were impossibly difficult to get in to place, even with pinning as they were very brittle at the joints. The kumo are probably among the rarest pieces in my collection.
  4. A quick followup to the earth oni I posted last night, to help dig into my Rokugan project. Ninjas are awesome, so I had to lead with them for the clans. They also make good generic bad guys since ninjas are pretty prominently featured in most fantasy RPG settings at this point. Because I have soooooo many minis to paint for this setting and I am just starting on this big project speed is the name of the game (well, that and having a 3yo and a 5yo makes anything that takes time impossible). I painted these in a few sittings, but it took much longer than it should have because the black paint was giving me trouble. So much black. Originally I had gone with a blue black but it just didn't look right (and too similar to colors from another clan). So, I completely repainted all of it using primarily the dark elf skin triad with vampiric skin for highlights giving it a more purple-grey hue. That recipe worked nicely for me and i'll be sure to tap it for future scorpion clan models. simple paint job, but that black really was tough to pull off. One of the nice things about the old clan war blisters is that most packs come with 4 unique sculpts of the same troop type for lots of variation, making them ideal for skirmish and RPG games where unique mooks are nice. I have a few more sets like this in the queue before I start on the personalities. many more to come!
  5. Hia crew, I have had a longtime interest in the fantasy setting of Rokugan, and several years ago I began collecting and painting any minis I could that would populate that world on my game-table. I have hundreds (cough, thousands, cough) of minis from multiple MFGs that need to be painted for this project. these guys were completed a while ago, but serve as an excellent introduction to the horrors of Rokugan. The big guy is the proper "Elemental terror of earth" from the AEG Clan War game that takes place in Rokugan and I painted him almost exactly as portrayed in the box art. the little guys are lava elementals from Ral Partha's "Crucible" line. They come in two poses but were easily modded for more variety. I thought the models went very well together and would make an excellent encounter with minions and a boss. Since they are basically Lava elementals they are pretty cross purpose and mix well with other similar critters (such as smoke and fire elementals, for a volcanic adventure). Anyhow, they are very simple and speedy paint jobs but I immensely enjoy their cohesiveness. I have been chugging full steam on my Rokugan minis while on vacation, so Ill follow this post with some of my more recently completed minis for this setting. Since Long threads of show-offs are frowned upon Im not really sure how to present all of the minis in a way where I can highlight that they are all related and part of the same project. no biggie, though.
