  1. Husband has asked me to paint up Isabeau Laroche as Captain Marvel. He saw some pictures of it done on Tumblr a while ago and thought it was the neatest thing. So I am going to attempt to recreate it. When I was initially asked I didn't think I was nearly good enough to pull it off but I think where I am now I can do it. I'll be using this photo as reference: The emblem on her chest will go onto Isabeau's shield as seen in original mini photos.
  2. Sparrow makes a Mini Ma'al

This idea is stolen (with permission) from @OneBoot. Last year she took a Bones Hydra and put wings on it to paint as a mock up for her own Ma'al Drakkar. It was most fun to watch. Husband loved the idea so much that he had to have one with traditional Tiamat colors to match our Ma'al when I get to painting him. Here is her original WIP: This is my first conversion and will be my first dip into the world of sculpting green stuff. Which I'll need to do to make it look like there are scales around the wings instead of just, well, blobs of green stuff. Okay, that's enough of an intro post so let's get too it. ETA: Sorry in advance in the pictures are big.
  3. Sparrow paints Cthulhu

I started painting up Cthulhu tonight. So far I've just got the base coat on the head and body. I hope to get this done fairly quickly.
  4. Behir: 77492

Painted this up a couple of days ago, took maybe 3 hours. This is the only decent photo I got but overall I'm very happy with how it came out.
  5. After a poll this seems to be the best place to put this thread. For the most part I'll stick photos under spoilers because my phone likes to make them large. So I bought a sketchbook today with the intent to catalog and show off all of my paints. I thought it was quite the appropriate book to get. First I made a grid on a page. Then added the title to each column: Name & SKU, None, Base, Wash, Brown Liner, Blue Liner. That's as far as I've gotten. Next I plan on starting to fill out paint names and SKU's. Then I will prime the squares with some plain white brush on primer (Vallejo in this case). I'm really hoping that the paper is thick enough to avoid the water from just being absorbed. If it isn't I will go to the craft store and buy a better book with different paper and can use this for something else later. Each column is a different thickness of paint/what I'll be putting it over. So None is straight out of the bottle, Base is thinned enough for a base coat, Wash is thinned down to a wash consistency, and Brown and Blue Liner will have each of them put over the primer and then a base consistency paint over that. I'm going to spend some time filling out the names and SKU's and then I'll get to priming the squares. Might go back and go over the lines with a sharpie or pen to make them a little more apparent where the lines are for my sake. ETA: I already have a spreadsheet of all of the paints I own and then sub-sheets broken down by line/company. I think there is a way to put color samples into the sheet but I've yet to figure it out. So I'm making this so I don't have to pull out all of my paints when I need to color scheme something. I can just pull out the book and go from there. It'll be much more efficient for me.
  6. Dagon

I finished! Unfortunately he doesn't fit in my light box quite right so I had to just use my blanket as a back drop. The lighting could be better also. Overall I'm really happy with him. Spoiled for big pictures.
  7. Ellen Stone 80003

I finished her. It's finished but not perfect. I could have messed around with things even further and cleaned her up a bit more. I really probably could have left her sitting for weeks trying to figure out what else to do which is when I decided it's done. Pretty happy with the eyes on this one. Also, the chaps were the first time I'd attempted to do distressed leather which I think look pretty good for a first attempt. Probably could have gotten clearer pictures but didn't want to fight with the phone any longer. ETA: C&C welcome.
  8. Minivember 2017!

It's almost that time of year again! And by that I mean it's almost November. I started this last year in place of doing NaNoWriMo. Instead of writing a novel I paint a mini a day. I have tweaked the rules slightly from last year since I wasn't able to complete it the way I wanted to because life. So here are the revised rules and my calendar. I'm going to try to do this one mini each day but if that fails as long as I have 30 minis at the end of the month I'll consider it a success. Rules: Must paint at least 30 minis (1 for each day) 1 sculpt = 1 mini Prep beforehand is encouraged. No brush restrictions Calendar: I only do this for my sanity and to keep me on track and motivated. This year all but 2 of the minis are from Bones 3. There probably won't be much updating to this until November actually starts or is very near to it. I think that's it for now. Thanks for looking!
  9. Sparrow paints Dagon

I started painting Dagon a few days ago. He's very much still in the beginning stages. All my paints are MSP unless otherwise specified. Here's what I've done so far: Washed and blue liner-ed and started a base coat of Marine Teal. Then a little more work on the fins with Twilight Purple, Gem Purple, and Amethyst Purple but they have a long way to go still.
  10. TARDIS Christmas Diorama

So as some of you may know I'm making a diorama! This will be slow going for a while as I get the materials and then it should be full steam ahead. I've started by procuring another copy of the "telephone box" since I don't really like the first one I did a few years ago. It's not awful but not up to my standard for a Christmas present.
  11. Now that I've finished the Frost Giants I'm moving onto something a bit warmer, Fire Giants. Currently I've boiled, primed, and base coated skin on all 5. Several will probably need an additional skin coat but so far so good. Pictures in spoiler.
  12. I'm painting all the giants that came with Bones 3 starting with the 4 frost giants. I'm going to start off by assembly lining the skin and then go back to the queen, who I already have liner-ed, and go from there. Pics under spoiler for size.
  13. 77380: Khanjira

I painted this a while ago but am just now getting around to taking/posting photos. He was too big to fit in my light box so I had to deal with the less than optimal lighting in the apartment. I'm really happy with how he came out now that he's done. I had about a week where I wanted to throw him in a bath of simple green and start over but I got over that and called him done. I am really really happy with how his eyes came out though.
  14. Here is a link to my blog where I posted all the photos. I didn't want to just stick them all here since there are quite a few and didn't want to overload people with photos. The photography and lighting definitely isn't the best but I'm working on that. Thanks for looking, C&C welcome. https://sparrowmarieminis.wordpress.com/2017/04/20/shadows-of-brimstone-resin-minis/
  15. Sparrow paints some resin

Freshly washed, only 4 of the 20 heroes need repaired. The 3 villains still need assembled but I thought it best to scrub them down before gluing. Next up: primer test.
  16. 77290: Mousling Druid

As part of this month's getting to know you thread a challenge was proposed, try a technique you've never done before. For me that was OSL. So I used the Mousling Druid to attempt this. For a first try I don't think it turned out too bad. The lighting in my room isn't great so I hope it reads okay.
  17. Going to use this guy as my first attempt at OSL. This was inspired by Talespinner's challenge in the getting to know each other thread.
  18. 77034: Kieran Tallowmire, High Mage

This was my project for the morning, spent maybe 4 hours on it. The spots on the hat are my attempt at stars.
  19. Sparrow painted some angels (pic heavy)

I painted up some angels, this is the first time I've painted feathers that I can recall. This is also my first attempt at painting marble. My eyes are slowly getting better. Edit: There are some better pics of the second and third angels a few posts down. Deva: Angel of Shadow: Angel of Protection:
  20. Nathavarr

Colors are a little off from my lighting, he's more red than orange and not as shiny in person. My light box isn't quite big enough to fit him.
  21. 77162: Yephima, Cloud Giant

I'm super in love with this mini. It was so much fun to work on. And I'm VERY happy with how the eyes turned out because that's something I struggle with a lot. The lighting here is not great, I have misplaced the power cord to my light box, and somethings are off color from what it should be.
  22. Sparrow paints DDS2

I started painting up DDS2 while I decide on what I want to do with Khanjira. I'm trying to decide which color I want to go with on the wings in the last picture, I like them both.
  23. Sparrow paints Khanjira

So I've been painting Khanjira for a long time now. Like for a year-ish now. The last time I picked it up I just wasn't happy with how it was turning out and just put it on the shelf and there it sat. Until now. I've finally picked it back up again, I'm not terribly disappointed in how it's turning out but it's still got a long way to go. I figure by making this WIP thread I will hopefully get it done in a timely manner. And by timely manner I mean by Valentine's Day. No particular reason for the date, it's just a date that I will remember. Anyway, here is my progress so far: Ignore the state of my desk, it's been worse. Also, note to self, stop putting models together before painting them.
  24. Sparrow paints Yephima

So I'm going to try to keep up with a new WIP. I started painting Yephima yesterday and I hope to finish her by the end of the month. Here is my progress so far: I first put down a thin layer blue liner and then based her skin in MSP Ashen Blue and her armor and hair pieces are MSP Ancient Bronze. I missed a couple of bits of armor that I need to go back and do. I haven't yet decided what other colors I want to do on the rest of her. I'll normally plan this out ahead of time but when I went to my notebook nothing was written down on her page. Oops. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  25. Minivember Complete!

I posted all of my photos over on my blog because I couldn't figure out a way to post all of them here without it being a photo overload. They aren't in any particular order since I couldn't remember which order I painted them in since I had to play catch up. After I took photos and adjusted the white balance on them I realized I have a lot of places that need touching up. So I'm going to make that a goal of this month along with the few others I have. https://sparrowmarieminis.wordpress.com/2016/12/03/minivember-photos/
