  1. I was using this to try a different skin color which I like and I believe I was going to do a bit more detailed TMM but got side tracked. After several months of no work on him, I decided to get him "done" to tabletop level. Here are some shaky iPad photos. C&C welcome.
  2. Kar Drakir, Reptus Dragonman 03316

I painted this fig over the weekend. I typically stick with the bones material, but I liked this fig so much I splurged for the metal version. I went with a red color scheme for a dragonborn character that I rolled up for an upcoming adventure. I like how the gold armor goes with the reddish brown skin, but if I had to do it over, I would have chosen a more vibrant purple for the shield and cloth bits of the tunic. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I can definitely see myself getting a few more of these and doing them with color schemes for all of the other types of dragons. Comments and critiques are welcome as always! Thank you!
  3. Hello all, Starting a new WIP for a mini I'm working on for one of the players in my D&D 5e campaign. One of her characters is a Tiefling Eldritch Knight, so I have selected the glaive-weilding S'Kara to be the starting point for this project... As you can see, I have just begun. I have primed the mini, and used a pair of pliers to slightly curve her horns, to achieve a more ram-like, less devil-like look. I'm currently in the process of selecting colours for the cloth portion of her outfit. Any suggestions or ideas? (Fyi, she will have dark brown hair and olive skin). As always, comments and constructive feedback are always welcome! -E.E.
  4. 03785 - Jakob Knochengard

Presenting Jakob Knochengard - Zombie Slayer, the first finished mini from my Dreadmere Begins WIP thread. I've been really taken with the minis Reaper have been producing for their Dreadmere setting, hopefully a few more of the ones they're doing for Bones 4 get released in metal. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  5. Wolf Tribe - Rageclaw Warrior

I'm working on painting a tribe of wolf people and this is the second guy I've completed (first one here). This is also the first custom base that I've made. Funny side note: Early on in painting this guy I posted on the works in progress board asking for opinions on what is hanging on his foot. The conclusion that we came to was that it was some kind of buckle which apparently the sculptor of this piece (Werner Klocke) is obsessed with. As I kept painting I definitely started noticing the abundance of buckles across the various leather straps. It just made me laugh every time I discovered a new one. Anyway comments, suggestions, and criticisms welcome! Thanks!
  6. (Note: I actually started these a while back, though they are not done yet. This is a bit less of a WIP thread than a how-I-got-here-so-far thread, which I will update as I get my old pictures organized. Questions and comments and critiques are, as always, welcome.) Last summer Bad Squiddo Games hosted a brief Kickstarter, "My Last Sunrise," of an assortment of Gothic horror minis centered around vampires. These two stood out to me as a little beyond the Hammer horror ethos of most of the other figures. While I was painting them I thought of them as "Feral Vampires," although when I just rechecked they are called "Vampire Thralls." I dunno. They don't look very thrall-like to me. Their tag line in the Kickstarter was "Float about in my night dress cooing for scraps? No way. I hunt my own meal." Anyhow, they have a fun, odd, lady pirate or highwayman look. All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios. Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated. This is a slight deviation from how I prime figures. Normally I prime them with Titanium White (which I did here) and then wash over them with Burnt Umber to bring out the details. These I wanted kind of cold-looking, so I washed them with a cold dark grey mixed from Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue. That's them on the left. For a while I was including Bad Squiddo's "Dracula" in the photos, so you get a free peek at that too. And as per usual, the first thing I did was their skin. In contrast to the skin of living humans, I have been painting vampire skin in stark black-and-white mixed from Titanium White and Carbon Black. The very first layer is thinned Titanium White, then pale shadows of the lightest grey.
  7. I'm painting a Rageclaw Warrior and I'm trying to figure out what this thing is. He has a leather strap wrapped around one of his hind legs and there's something hanging off it. Can anyone tell what it is? It's a package or a letter maybe? I don't know what color to paint it.
  8. This was the Secret Sophie mini I painted for Auberon this year. One of the "inspiration" pictures he sent me was described as "not technically a chainmail bikini." So I just decided to go with an unabashed chainmail bikini. I experimented a bit and used NMM on the armor and blades. I'm happy with the placement on the gold, but I think it needs more contrast. I'm happy with the contrast on the steel, but the placement is definitely wrong somehow. Comments on how to improve this are welcome.
  9. Deadly Grace: Dark Sword Elf Warrior

Finally got around to taking photos of my ReaperCon entries for 2017 and this was one of my entries in the Painter's category. This is Dark Sword's Female Wood Elf Warrior and I wanted to paint this one up for a long time but could not decided on what color scheme to use. All I knew was that I wanted to do something different than what you would expect for a wood elf but I did not know what. It finally came to me, use mainly purples and greys and make her a drow. After determining that, the base plan came to me pretty quickly, place her in a cave with natural crystals and spiderwebs. The webs were created using UHU glue. She ended up being my entry that was judged for that category and I was very pleased to receive a gold medal. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  10. My latest Bone lll offering. Can't say I enjoyed the one. Has real problems with the armour and not really happy with the end results. May have been better using metallics. the shield turned out OK.
  11. For your consideration, I offer you the Frost Giant King from the Bones 3 Kickstarter. He is the pair to the Frost Giant Queen and I am not disappointed in the sculpt. This miniature (bigature?) is packed with details and a metric-ton of space to paint and practice textures. The level of detail for Bones miniatures continues to impress me. The King and Queen were both primed with Krylon and sealed with Dull Cote and neither exhibits tackiness. The bits that stick out - like the butt of the spear - did rub off when I handled it during painting. I really had to work my way from the inside out to paint this big guy. The fur textures on the fur cape was an enjoyable ride. I look forward to seeing what others do with this team of Giants, and I'm eyeballing the release schedule for the Frost Giant Guards. I recommend purchasing the Royalty as soon as they are available. Gratitude for all who participated in the WiP thread. Your enthusiasm kept me going. #respect #gratitude I hope you enjoy. :)
  12. Frost Giant King WIP

Update on the Frost Giant King. Cheers to the recommendation on Bases to replace the GW base! I have a slew of baes now for my projects. Plus this base is so much better. I hope to add more embellishment like rocks to match the Queen after I get this chap sorted. So many smooth surfaces asking for textures. Leather texture after the inner cloak is done. The spear shaft wood.grain has to wait until the end as the butt of the spear continues to be worn off during painting. The sword will be a session work in-and-of itself. Enjoy!
  13. Percival

Presenting Percival, a knight of renown from Kingdom Death. Not massively happy with the face on this one, I was trying to give her a very pale complexion but it didn't really work. I also could've done a better job on her hair (I was just very intimidated by it for some reason). I am pretty pleased with the rest of her though. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  14. 03149 Justine, Undead Hunter

So what class would a Undead Hunter be? Paladin?
  15. The Twilight Ninja

Presenting the Twilight Ninja from Kingdom Death, she was their special edition mini for last years Black Friday sale. I've had this one painted up for a little while, but I've been struggling to come up with a new photo setup (of course, the eventual solution was annoyingly simple). She's a little rough in places, I had to repaint bits of her bodysuit a few times too many, but I think she ended up looking pretty nifty. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  16. Couldn't resist starting on his guy as soon as he arrived! I'm not sure what a Bloodreaper is, but they look like this:- Although mine currently looks like this:- As it would be pretty much impossible to paint the inside of his coat, or his legs, once assembled, I'm getting them out of the way first. Although you can't see it, the inside of his coat is mostly done. It's been based in 2:1 Vallejo Hexed Lichen/Vallejo Pure Black, then shaded with 1:1 Hexed Lichen/Pure Black and 1:2 Hexed Lichen/Pure Black. Just need to highlight up the open flap. The boots are completely finished. They were based with Vallejo Leather Brown, then highlighted with 2:1 Leather Brown/Vallejo Iraq Sand and 1:2 Leather Brown/Iraq Sand. They also got Vallejo Bronze buckles and Tanned Leather laces and finally a glaze of Brownshade Wash.
  17. 02967 - Alastriel, Elf Sorceress

Greetings! Presenting Alastriel, Elf Sorceress...... I really love the wonderful sculpting on this mini, she seems to be both beautiful & dangerous at the same time. I imagined her as a "Sea Elf" who lives on the cost protecting her kin from marauders & pirates with ship-destroying storm spells. I painted her in sea blue & sea green & extended the base with some rough basic sculpting into a more substantial rocky outcrop to reflect this. Thanks for looking!
  18. The Dung Beetle Knight

Originally ordinary insects, the Dung Beetle Knights evolved humanoid forms to fool their enemies. The Knight:- Mr. Ball:- My first result in my attempt to spend the year getting some more of my Kingdom Death minis painted up. Had a lot of fun with these two, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. The Knight could've done with a highlight on the armour segments to make the cracks pop a bit more, but I was unwilling to gamble on my brush control being up to the job. Any comments or criticisms are, as always, warmly received.
  19. Wise Frodulf: RBG

Wise Frodulf by Red-Box-Games Sculpted by Tre Manor Here is my rendition of Frodulf. He goes a long with my warband color scheme. This OSL (Object Source lighting) is one of three real steps into the technique. I am happy with the way it turned out. I used an small handheld LED to check lighting for the sword. I kind of broke the rule about the rest of the model being darker for OSL but I wanted him to stand out on the battle field. My free hand work seems to be getting better too with the triangle pattern on him as well. And finally, I sculpted the bricks myself out of greenstuff. I really hope you guys like him.
  20. Everyman Gaming - Kitsune Samurai

Since I posted some of my work where I converted certain reaper miniatures into kitsune a while ago, I figured I would post one of the newer kitsune that I've painted recently. I got this miniature from "Everyman Gaming", they have been getting a site called imagine3dminiatures.com to 3d print miniatures for them. This miniature was a bit difficult to paint because I had to clean off a lot of plastic nubs that were leftover from the 3d printing process. I kept finding more even after I primed the miniature. I also had to cut the mini off of its 30mm base and glue it to one of reaper's 1 inch scale bases. However, in the end the mini came out very well! Well, some parts came out a bit messy, like the gold on the shield, and the black wash. Luckily, in real life people won't be able to see the messy black wash that I put on the mini, lol. Painting this mini was a lot of fun, so I'm planning to paint Everyman's nine tailed kitsune miniature soon :D
  21. Ral Partha Female Fighter - Queen

So another old Partha piece that I just finished. I don't think the photos are the greatest and there is such lack of mercy when you see your piece so close up but here we go: I think she came out reasonably well. She had a huge shield that I just didn't want to leave blank, so I did a bit of freehand, but I'm wondering sometimes my artistic talents when I do these, as this little Pegasus reminds me more of a little rag doll horsey than a noble beast of flight. It's just really hard to get too much detail in such a small area which is about the size of a dime. This one was originally a set of four females, originally called Queens from different cultures by Dennis Mize, really nice set. Enjoy!
  22. Sarayad (dryad)

One of the last pieces I painted for 2016, a sarayad, or noble dryad from DGS Games. She is going to really surprise some PCs one day.
  23. Gabrielle

My final figure for 2016, Gabrielle by Bombshell. I slightly altered the position of her arm, and changed her stance by basing her on a step, so it looks more like she is running, rather than lunging. Really proud of her face, I used a magnifying glass in addition to my usual painting glasses, so I could get the detail.
  24. Quest for the perfect NMM blade

I started experimenting with NMM, and there are so many cool NMM tutorials over the web that I decided to try a couple. I got this pewter blade I can strip and re-paint as many times I want. This is the first attempt, I was roughly following this tutorial: It didn't turn out as nice as the blade in the tutorial, but I'm still kind of happy with it. NMM is still magic for me :) Advice is welcome and appreciated!
  25. Okay, here we go. I have this lovely Warpwolf Stalker, which I painted a while ago. I have, since I leveled up a bit, revisited the stalker. Here is the original picture: Here is the current front view (and other views) I'm really happy with the extension of what I have done with him, and I'm much happier with the figure as a whole. Any C&C is welcome, but I think I improved significantly from the initial painting to the reworking I've done on this one. C&C is welcome on this one.
