  1. Welcome to Getting to Know You, December 2018 Edition. The rules as they currently stand: 1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. 1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... 2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted. 2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.) 3. Questions are going to be posted between 8:00 hours and 13:00 hours GMT (UK / Europe Time: some Zero Dark Thirty hour for US time zones) 4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me... (Or Talespinner, he started it.) 5. You do not have to answer every question to play... 6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI). 7. Weekend questions will usually take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday. December will begin ^ with such a question because the month begins on a Saturday.

    Scale Comparison Photos

Goal The purpose of this thread is to gather in one place all the visual answers to the oft recurring question, “How big is Reaper miniature __ __ __ __ __ ?” That question comes up about once a week; but always about different models. This thread is meant to serve as a place for those foolish kind souls who decide to answer in detail with a photograph to post their work. Guidelines for such photographs “...Posed in front of an inch or centimeter grid, and / or with a ruler laid out in front of, above, or behind them, and / or next to other Miniatures for comparison...” Comparison pics are the most useful because the numerical height of a model doesn't always tell you how bulky it is, or how exaggerated the features might be. Common objects like paint dropper bottles, figure bases, and specific Miniatures like Sir Forscale (76543) can acquaint the viewer with size of a new Mini, especially while standing on a grid. The best comparison shots are like police line-ups: several miniatures side-by-side in front of an easily-read scale. @Pingo @redambrosia and @lowlylowlycook contributed most of the wording in the preceding paragraph (which I edited a bit). 4. Dr TG Pendrake presents his latest experiments in Aeronef armor plating. If only suitable minions** were available for hire! **The medieval archery re-enactor is proving quite useless. (5/8ths inch or ~18mm 'plating' cut to a standard length. Follow on experiments may involve an ink wash.) (Thanks to BLZeebub for conjuring up the other name for the material...)
  5. Six archers of a Lost Army, from a Lost Kingdom, from a Lost World — six unwavering ghosts, standing defiantly in wedge formation: Reliqua Bretonnia In Memoriam
  6. Yet Another Archer; A Kobold; A Tank; and some Fighter Plane Tokens The archer is another one to go with some of the previous bowmen. I hope to get a small painted unit of them by the time this is over. He is an old GW plastic. This guy just sorta got slopped with what ever color was left over after painting some of the other things. He was the use up the paint miniature. I think his legs are haldardier tabard red from last month's batch of halberd guys. Boots are kobold basecoat brown. The Kobold is a bonesium version, white plastic, 77010. I mixed faded purple with some lighter color —fire orange maybe— to get the brown for his basecoat. It did not cover the archer's shoes very well. Later he got drowned in brown liner. The tip of his spear is the same copper that was used to damp brush highlights onto the tank. The tank and the fighter tokens are 1:1200 scale resin models from Spartan Games. The basecoat on the tank is kolbold basecoat brown with a lot of brown liner mixed in because it wanted to dry out too soon. Later some pure brown liner got shoved into the deep places and kinda blended in. Then bronzey highlights. The airplane tokens are responsible for the archer's dingy blue tunic. First paint on them was Black Ink on the edges. Then they got a top coat of Sky Blue, avoiding the tops of the planes (archer got the left overs). Then the then planes got dabbed with metallic either silver or bronze. Then the edges got some silver to pick out the girder work. The final step was to wash them with Blue Liner. I was trying to get some edging and shadows under the planes. I needed to experiment on some of these. I have boat loads of these for the game they are from. [edits: Bold Tags; Only one L in kobold, added some paint colors, airplane token steps... ]
  7. Some guys with Halberds. Five minutes to midnite. Clicking "Post Topic" now...but will get this tagged better on a later edit. (Below...) Black Legionaries with Red Tunics These were speed paints started about 5 hours to go before the August deadline. I keep doing that. But, I guess at least I am getting to explore some fast techniques. The halberd tips have some old Ral Partha bronze on them. The red is a mix of two Reaper reds: 29802 Brilliant Red + _____________. (I can't find the second red...stay tuned.) Then both got a light overwash with some darker colors. The base of the mini got slathered in a sort of Ruddy Brown that was a custom color from RCon 2014, I mixed in a few drops of Jade Green that didn't budge the color much. Then it got a light overwash with some darker colors. The rest of the mini got fake acid-washed with a mix of Black Ink: 9208, Blue Liner: 9066, and Brown Liner: 9064. At varying degrees of density. Those are the darker colors mentioned above.
