  1. Stared work on this guy finally! I sculpted the base myself. I really like that he is slight bending at the knees which made him standing on the stairs i made look more authentic. On to the painting! Texture is the name of the game from this weekend. GW: Vomit Brown (which is like a yellow brown) on the tunic. Several coats until I could not see grey from the primer. GW: Vomit Brown & Leather White (my favorite paint bottle ) [4:1] - To do some upper highlights on the all the raised areas. Dotting or Stippling with a Mixture: GW Vomit Brown mixed with Walnut brown. So the color was a little darker than the tunic's primary color. Then stippled or dotted with Walnut brown over THE ENTIRE THING. After that I did some diluted brown washes pushing into the recesses and some re-highlighting, re-shadowing, etc etc. The pants: Painted in Leather White highlighted in PURE White washed in Muddy Brown (which is a green brown.) The bag: Painted Royal Purple, highlighted with Leather white then washed in Muddy Brown
  2. Haven't had much time to take photo's of a WIP on the warband I've been working on but now that I'm done with them and can work on individual figures at time I figured I would show you guys what I'm working on. The cloak is painted in Monarch Purple then washed in Reaper Brown wash to dull itThis is done because of the free hand pattern I'm planning on putting on it I want to be subtle but noticeable. The horizontal lines on the cloak are done in Monarch purple. You can see how the brown wash really dulled the purple to make the original color pop a bit more. These are guidelines as the moment. To keep the coloration similar I did what I like to call a wash-invert. The brown is washed with a diluted Monarch Purple and the Purple is washed in Browns. And the browns look very purple in the photo but they are not that bad. The center armored tunic is paint VLJ German Grey then the recess' are washed in Gloss black. The Belt is painted in gloss black. This is really just surface stuff right now. I'm going to get into it this weekend. I got bored and had him primed while working on my warband and did some of his base.
  3. Live

Surprised this hasn't made it here yet. Tre is at it again, this time with an Aenglish based warband. Sitting at 10 figures for $55. A full-figured female mage with her male apprentice, a female thief and 7 semi modular men-at-arms. End date is 8 days away (KS just went live yesterday), and he has several stretch goals planned. Just about funded now. Sorry for no picture, my work computer doesn't like to cough up links.
  4. Tre Manor is at it again with more cool Vikings/Northmen/Barbarians! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/warbands-of-the-cold-north-iii?ref=nav_search
  5. Ase Arvidson from Red Box Games. Another miniature that had to suffer before I've settled (kind of) for a sealing method. Ase was a quick, and rather painless, paintjob. I have decided to try and speed up things (since I'm at the time of writing 229 finished miniatures short of having painted all my RBG minis....). This means having to settle for less (one sacrifice is way less time trying to paint eyes on small minis), but with how Ase turned out I'm quite OK with that. The original sculpt had a rather ugly arrow running down the leg, which I cut away and replaced with part of a metal paper clip. I'm not a sculpter so that's the best I could manage (I have since though about using needles but the paper clips are way cheaper :D).
  6. Once again I'm trying to pull myself out of a painting slump (this one stretching for most of the year). I recently attended my first paint workshop. While I mostly learned how much I have to learn, and that air brushes are pretty cool, I did rekindle some of my desire to paint. And in an atempt to keep it going until the holiday break I thought I'd try a WIP thread. I've been holding on to the brigands from Red Box Game for some time now... so no time like the present. First up (actually second...) is Smarty Sean. And his hood going from highlighted then shaded (first pic) to mostly done for now. And the first miniature is Burt the Brash (but I didn't take any pictures until now). So here he is with his face and hood done for now. Next will be the tunic I think.
  7. So I was asked for a group shot of my Tre Manor / Red Box Games Warband.... Links to the individual Show offs: Ejrvindr the Far Seeing & Dagrun Arnholdt'sdottir Hawkeyed Arvid & Pretty Laerke Red Gunhildr & Little Svein Swiftfoot Njorn thugs The show offs should all have links to the Wips.... The building is from Games Workshop 40K, The Imperial City Box Set, Circa 2003? (Do you folks thing it works ok as Frostgrave terrain?) Thanks for looking!
  8. So my warband is complete! The snow effect is still drying as I took these pics, but I don't expect it to change to much.... (I will need to go around the bases with Black paint to cover the water effect smears....) Thanks to all those that followed along in the WiP! Can't wait to play a game now...... WiP here
  9. So I put the Secret Weapon Crushed Glass Snow effects on their bases, and here they are, Ejrvindr the Far Seeing and his apprentice, Dagrun Arnholdt'sdottir... Thanks for looking! Comments and Critiques Welcome! George WiP found Here
  10. So these 2 got their Secret Weapon Crushed Glass Snow, and I am calling them done! Hawkeyed Arvid Pretty Laerke Couple of minor touch ups to do with the bases, but.... Thanks for looking and following along! WiP here George
  11. These 2 also got their Secret Weapon Crushed Glass Snow, and, Barring some base touch ups, are Done! Red Gunhildr Little Svein Swiftfoot Thanks for following along and Looking! WiP here Now on to the thugs and the warband will be done! (for now...)
  12. So I did not get these guys during the kickstarter, thinking that the guys with the shields would be more appropriate for Frostgrave, as I did NOT have the rule book at the time.... OOPS.... So I got them later, when I found out that the Njorn Hirdmen were a LOT more expensive! Another batch of things primed to start base coating at paint day tomorrow! These guys come in 4 parts, heads, bodies, right and left hands / weapons. Kind of fiddly assembly, and some green stuff gap filling required..... Thanks for looking!
  13. Pretty Laerke by RBG Sculpted by Tre Manor This archer was an absolute joy to paint. From the moment I saw her I saw a red head. Probably highly influenced by Brave but oh well. I wanted to do some free hand on her under tunic but I could not decide on it so I left it. The base is hand sculpted too. I have a resin one from RBG coming in soon and I'm thinking of doing it as her sister and make her standing on a similar base maybe a different type of red hair. Not sure yet. Enjoy!
  14. Njorn Thugs by RBG Sculpted by Tre Manor Here we have the Thugs from the Njorn character set. I really liked painting these guys. Very dynamic and interested. They had a wide variety in their weapons and poses. Continuing with my new Object Source Lighting (OSL) I painted up a solider with a torch in his hand. It turned out much better than I had thought I was going to do. Additionally, I did a blue glaze on the spearmans metallic's to get a more realistic look. First time I've really done that too. To me... It looks pretty good. I will probably try it out on all of my weapons and armors again. That's about it. I hope you enjoy this. Thank you for stopping by. Click the image to see it a bit larger. :) Close up of the Torch guy solider.
  15. Njorn Hirdmen by Red Box Games Sculpted by Tre Manor Standard Table Top for these guys. I was a little in a hurry but it turned out well enough. I sculpted the bases and used some brick corners from some bricks Ub3r gave me. Again with these guys I put some Nordic runes on them. I hope you guys like them.
  16. Ejrvindr the Far Seeing by Red-Box-Games Sculpted by Tre Manor This guy was particularly fun to paint as I thoroughly enjoy doing leather. His clock was a labor of love. It did turn out to be "leather" but the browns look really nice. I also tried doing a bottle with liquid in it. Didn't turn out how I wanted but it's good enough for tabletop standard. In need find some tutorials on how to paint containers with liquid in them. I had sculpted the base myself - which you will find I do that with everything. The base is the OSL that is projecting up and on to him. Additionally, you'll notice on this series of miniatures I put Nordic runes on some of the miniatures. You can see that here on Ejrvindr on the scabbard of his dagger. Thank you all, Enjoy!
  17. Wise Frodulf by Red-Box-Games Sculpted by Tre Manor Here is my rendition of Frodulf. He goes a long with my warband color scheme. This OSL (Object Source lighting) is one of three real steps into the technique. I am happy with the way it turned out. I used an small handheld LED to check lighting for the sword. I kind of broke the rule about the rest of the model being darker for OSL but I wanted him to stand out on the battle field. My free hand work seems to be getting better too with the triangle pattern on him as well. And finally, I sculpted the bricks myself out of greenstuff. I really hope you guys like him.
  18. So these 2 are being done concurrently with the 2 archers for my Frostgrave warband, so there will likely be overlap with the colors used in the 2 WiPs.... So I started doing the flesh on the next parts of my Frostgrave warband, Red Gunhildr the Barbarian, & Little Svein Swiftfoot the Thief.... GW Scorched Brown, Reaper Linen White & SC75 Tesla Blue for the eyes..... Arabic Shadow, Arabic Shadow and Basic Flesh 50%, Basic Flesh, Basic Flesh and Golden Skin 50%, Golden Skin, Golden Skin and Light Skin 50%, light Skin, and a glaze of Golden Skin and Basic flesh 3/2... Gunhildr's hair started with Abyssal Blue.... Svien: Thanks for looking, and Comments and Critiques welcome!
  19. So I started doing the flesh on the next parts of my Frostgrave warband, Hawkeyed Arvid & Pretty Laerke... GW Scorched Brown, Reaper Linen White & SC75 Tesla Blue for the eyes..... Arabic Shadow, Arabic Shadow and Basic Flesh 50%, Basic Flesh, Basic Flesh and Golden Skin 50%, Golden Skin, Golden Skin and Light Skin 50%, light Skin, and a glaze of Golden Skin and Basic flesh 3/2.. Arvid's hair with MSP Auburn Shadow, Laerke's with VMC Black Brown... Arvid: Laerke: Thanks for looking! George
  20. So I am finally starting to work on my Warband, using the minis fro Tre Manor's Warriors of the Frozen North... Never having played Frostgrave before, I am starting out with the Wizard and his apprentice, as those 2 I know I will need.... Wizard is Ejrvindr the Far Seeing: Apprentice is Dagrun Arnholdt's dottir: Not sure what the rest of the band will be.... 2 archers, a thief, a Barbarian, and 4 thugs is my thought right now.... Suggestions???? Thanks for looking! George
  21. Tre has relaunched his kickstarter in METAL! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/warbands-of-the-cold-north-ii-epic-fantasy-viking
  22. Mighty Grum from Red Box Games. A really cool mini I finished while working through my huge backlog of RBG minis. He's quite small so I didn't bother (or rather I can't do it) with the eyes. I'm happy with how the skin and his fur coat (although it seems abit dull in the photo) worked out.
  23. Dagmar of the Shield of Red Box Games. A miniature I painted a few months ago but forgot to post.
  24. Vilhanna the Victorious from Red Box Games (currently available through Hasslefree Miniatures as Hanna of Vil). A quickie to improve my 2016 painted stats :) And appreantly I'm still not confident enough to try some free hand on a shield.
  25. I've been hitting a slump in my painting that's been keeping me from these forums for quite a while. I'm trying to regain my rythm and getting some pieces done. This is one of them: Gorak the Ravanger from the Warlords Miniature Lines. He was supposed to be a stand in for my current monk character in a DnD5 game, although I'm having second thoughts. Still love the miniature though. Seems quite angry :)
