  1. I will paint and create a Reptilian Army pure for fun. It will consists of many different kind of Reptiles and Amphibians. Mostly Snakemen, Lizardmen, Frogmen, Dragonmen, Turtlemen, Fishmen, Dinosaurs and Insects. I will happily include any monster I think will fit. Khanjira will be the centrepiece at some sort as the Living Lizard God. I do not play any games, so this will be pure for my own and (I hope your) fun to create. EDIT: The above was my original plan, over time and thanks to the comments made by other Forumites, this has developed into a story. This resulted in more Factions I wanted to build and paint, so this Project now also includes Pirates, Conquistadores, Native Warriors based on Inca/Aztec/Maya cultures. EDIT: And now it will also include Undead! *********** Captain Luigiano and his army had been travelling through the jungle for weeks now. The sunlight was blocked by the dense canopy of trees. Some of the men had contracted fever, and those darn mosquitos were a big nuisance! He looked at the golden plaque he had obtained. Gold, with a snakeman made out of gems on it. With this he had convinced the men to follow him. Somewhere in this accursed jungle there was a city made of gold, he was sure of it. They would conquer this city and become rich beyond belief. He looked at his army, they even had a few cannons. Nothing would stop them! Finally they reached a clearance. The men were pleased, at least they could see the sun again. They took a rest and a drink, tended to the sick. Suddenly they heard a loud roar from the other side of the clearing. Birds flew away, trees where falling! Some poison darts flew and two soldiers fell, they died before they hit the ground. A loud roar and an enormous terrifying Lizard appeared. One soldier died out of fear from just looking at it. Then the Reptilian Horde emerged from the Jungle. **************************

    Kings of War: Undead Necromancer

This mini is by Mantic for the Kings of War game, which I think is defunct, and so I got some of them cheap. I like him him a lot. Can’t wait to inflict my D&D players with an undead guy...who summons undead guys. (Wash, rinse, repeat)

    77017 Skeletal Swordsman - Bones

Greetings! You can never have too many skellies...... This Bones one has quite a lean on it, I did give a bit of the old "boil 'n' chill" before painting but unfortunately it sprang back over time. Thanks for looking!!
  4. TheOldGuard

    77007 Skeletal Spearman - Bones

Greetings! Another skeleton. This one is very adept at fighting around corners or in circular rooms... Thanks for looking!!

    77636, Death Shroud

Here's my 2018 Ghoulie Bag translucent smoky grey 77636, Death Shroud. I simply did a blueish highlight and painted the base on this Dark Heaven Bones model sculpted by Julie Guthrie.

    77096, Labella DeMornay the Banshee

Hi everyone, here's a simple paint job on a translucent version of 77096, Labella DeMornay. This model was sculpted by Julie Guthrie. I painted it with green ink and acrylics.
  7. Lord of the Dish Pit

    Undying Lords

These guys were a nice excuse to paint up some undead that weren't bound to the usual colors. I figure that they're a group of adventurers that got hired to take out Selmarina, (who is the only dedicated evil witch I've painted thus far). They got as far as taking down her Minotaur bodyguard before she "reprimanded, reeducated, and reanimated" them. Now they serve as champions in the Pumpkin Legions... I was inspired by artwork of the Crimson King from Stephan King's Dark Tower with this guy. Obviously he was the wizard of the party before things went sideways. Live, dead, when you're one of Selmarina's minions she still expects you to do your job. Employment security I suppose... I tried very hard to avoid making this one resemble Legolas. So I went with an Autumn inspired scheme, which I'll probably run with when it comes time to paint the few other living elves I've got laying around somewhere. Greens and Browns are usually more elven type colors, but I wanted to keep this one as far as possible from both the red browns of Gimli and the usual colors of the Coffee Dwarves. I see some flock got stuck to his axe, I should probably fix that... Even death cannot stop the hunger of the average Halfling. He may prefer flesh to taters now but that doesn't mean the mushrooms are safe...
  8. This will be yet another Undead /Demon Army. ( what can I say? I love evil miniatures). This army has an Asian theme. Undead Samurai Oni Asian Dragons Some living Asian Allies. Kirin Hope you will enjoy it. I created a background story for it, it is on page 2. Have fun reading! I will paint slowly and it may take a while, but I'm putting this out here to start. Since I backed Zentih's Kensei Undead KS I have a few of the Undead Samurai and Demons waiting I also have the Grenadier Wind Dragon ( alas without the two humans) and the Grenadier Imperial Dragon of the Eleven Celestial Dynasties And some Living Samurai. Also a nice Asian Graveyard Set. Some stuff that has to get painted soon..

  10. One of my favorite Fantasy races are the Undead, followed by Chaos and Reptilians. I already have my Lost World Project which tells a tale of Conquistadores, Reptilians, Dinosaurs, Undead and a lot more. However those Undead are the Egyptian Style and Pirate/Jungle style. This thread will be filled with my beloved Gothic Undead, Demons, Monsters and all things that go bump in the night. In my Lost World Project I tell an ongoing story, here I will post about all other dark things without coherency. There might be snippets of loose stories to accompany a mini or not... I hope you guys and gals and creatures will like it. Let's kick off with the critters I painted a while ago to get a feel of what is coming. Enjoy! ( or not) Bats and a Murder of Crows EDIT: I will include some Bones and minis. The bulk will be metal and I want to give this an oldschool vibe. Preferred minis will be, Reaper, Grenadier, Ral Partha, Rafm, Metal Magic, Otherworld and Early Citadel. The Asian Undead will be from Zenith since I backed the Kensei Undead Samurai KS and will get their own thread. Eldessa Necromancer Ral Partha Female Vampire Lurien and Aysa Bat Demon

Ghouls + A true horror story

Reaper Miniatures 03716 Ghouls sculpted by Bob Ridolfi and old school RAFM 02953 Ghoul Warlock. I painted these in August for a D&D encounter but I had to repaint them because the varnish has created a white fume all over the models when I sealed them. It probably happened to many of you as well. It was the third time I wasted painted models because of that undesirable fume without being able to put my finger on the reason why. I think I now know why it happen. Trick or treat : A true horror story It was very humid outside that last August. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to shelter myself in the basement while I was speed painting some exquisite Reaper Miniature models. Late that day, as I was done painting a hand full of Undead models, I decided to seal them with that half-full / half-empty "you choose" can of anti shine matt varnish. It's important to mention that I had already used that very same spray can a month earlier. This being said, after shaking the spray can for a good minute or so, I opened the basement door leading into the backyard. Immediatly, a draft of hot and humid air invaded the doorway and shook my face. I remember swearing when I felt the moisture condensing to beads of sweat on my skin. Without losing a second, wanting to get back to shelter in my man cave, I spray some figurines. In the darkness of the night, everything seemend to be allright under the dim light of the portico. The day after, I noticed the damage. By a terrible curse, the models I spayed the night before were covered with a thin, powdery layer of white dust. I gazed around looking for sneering Gremlins but saw nothing unusual. Disconcerted, I became aware of the extent of the damage. There has to be a logical explanation behind this ghouly phenomenon. As much as I like science fiction and horror stories, I had to find a scientific explanation to all this madness. Wasting other models by this evil spell was not an option. I reused the same spay can to make a test. The only parameter that seemed to be different was the fact that it was very humid and hot outside the night before. I did not want to ruin hours of time spent painting another model to do this test. So, I sprayed a colored cardboard. Furthermore, I made an exception to the sanitary rule and used the spray can inside. The result was surprising. Even though I was using the same spay can, there was no fume this time. Since then, I've been reusing that same spry can on other models whitout any problem. What happened that draid August night? Was it the imps playing tricks on me or just the excessive difference of temperature and the heavy humidity in the air catched by the aerosol varnish? I will probably never know but one thing is for sure, I will always test my spray can on an expendable object before spraying my art.

    My Undead Army (so far)

Right, I hemmed and hawed over the best way to show these off, and sadly, ultimately decided on linking to an external album, rather than uploading 70 some odd photos to Reaper's servers. I've shown off several of these minis/units before over time, but I just got a new phone with a way nicer camera and I thought it would be nice to get the whole thing documented. I'm nowhere near done, I have always enjoyed painting the Undead and will likely continue to add to it forever, but here it is in it's current state. It's based for Kings of War, includes tons of Reaper, Mantic, GW, and a few other manufacturer's in small quantities as well. Enough talk, here's the album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CrTmoTDLmJte6agt9 And here's a sample excerpt: It's about 5 years +/- in the making but includes some minis from my previous war gaming days as well, I think all were repainted though. EDIT: Apologies, some of the models are dustier than I realized. Next time I get shots I'll dust first. There's even a small cobweb on one, but that kinda looks awesome. The dust not so much. Thanks for looking!

    02102, Plague Zombie

A rotting stench catches you nose. You see a creature slowly moving in your direction waving a dagger. At first, it looks like a beggar wearing rags. He utters a low moan and you realize as it's coming out of the shadows that he's missing part of its scalp and has a gaping hole in its abdomen through which you see his ribs and his petrified organs. Turning to the cleric, you scream with horror. Zombie! Here's 02102, Plague Zombie, Dark Heaven Legends sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. It's the second time i paint this model, here's the link to 02043: Undead Rising, 02102: Plague Zombie & 02157: Undead Awakening I painted 10 years ago.

    77559, Undying Minotaur

The door opens to reveal a room filled with bones. There are large and small ribs and leg bones, bare and white, piled ankle deep, with a huge pile in the center. The large pile is topped by a cow’s skull, and you see numerous other skulls, shattered and broken, hidden among other bones. As you enter the room, the pile of bones stirs from its resting place. It rises from a crouch to reveal a fully constructed minotaur skeleton. Within its bovine flicker twin motes of malevolent light. Jeff Grubb – Wrath of the Minotaur. It’s the second time I paint this awesome 77559, Undying Minotaur, Dark Heaven Bones 50mm tall model sculpted by Bob Rodolfi. I painted this Bones version for the D&D Fast-Play Adventure Wrath of the Minotaur.

Here's 07001, Rictus the Undying from Reaper's Dungeon Dwellers Special Edition Figures sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I'm curently running "The Vanishing Blackguard" adventure so get ready to see a load of painted models in the next couple of weeks. Sir Rictur is the main evil character in "The Vanishing Blackguard" adventure for 4-6 characters of levels 3-5 by Joseph C. Wolf. Check out the free Vanishing Blackguard.pdf adventure on Reaper's website.

    FTD-12, Dwarf Children

As you explore the ossuary, you hear wailings coming from a dark corner behind a sarcophagus. You see what seems to be a lost child, squatting and shivering. Chills run down your spine, when you first apprehension turns out to be dreadfully wrong. This foul creature has mottled decaying flesh, its eyes burn of hatred as it looks at you with a grim smile... Not a Reaper Miniatures but I thought some of you might like that Old school Citadel miniatures FTD-12 Dwarf Children (girl), distributed in North America by RAFM back in 1981. I painted it with acrylics as a child-sized Ghoul for the purpose of a DnD game need.

  21. Okay, here's the situation; my parents went away on a week's vacation, and now that you're rapping Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff to yourself (you are, right?), here's the real situation: I'm looking for a thing to represent a mounted Undead lord, the base size needs to be 75mm square (so fairly large), and it needs to occupy most of that space (or need minimal assistance from clever basing to look like it belongs on said base, at least). This precludes standard cavalry, obviously. It also needs to be wingless (or easily converted to wingless), as Wings would only serve to confuse my opponents in game (Kings of War). I'm open to any material, any manufacturer, though Reaper is strongly preferred. I'm thinking of also doing a non-traditional mount pose, like the Ghost King standing on the mounts back or shoulder or whatever, or even better, the Male Revenant from Bones 2. My first thought was to take one of the two Grave Golems I have and use that (without the gate wings), but that would really be stretching the empty space on the base to the max, as it's probably better suited for a 40mm square or 50mm square base at max. Of course, I could always fill the base with tombstones and skulls and stuff and build it up to the center, but I'd like to avoid that. The in-game creature is substantial and I'd like the mini to represent the size well. My next thought was I could do something like @Girot did for the Bone Horror (3rd picture in the store), which he nixed the wings from, and I think it looks fine. The problem here is the monster itself is pretty substantially threatening without a rider and doesn't really look like a mount. I'm not sure where I would put one (I could put a traditional saddled mount on it I guess, but I'm iffy on this idea). The main issue I have pulling the trigger on this beastie though is size, I'm not seeing Bryangles on the store pics, and having a hard time finding other scale shots with this guy in it. I see on his Deviant Art page, Girot says he used a 60mm round, do you think an extra 15mm each side would be too much? Especially because that's all in one dimension? The rest of the base will need a lot of doctoring to make up for the emptiness. Any other ideas?

    Sowerberry

Presenting Sowerberry, the ghostly undertaker of the Dickensian faction from the game Twisted. Had a lot of fun painting him, particularly all his clocks, but I don't think I'll bother making any more stamped greenstuff bases, I just can't get them looking even semi-decent. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  23. Hi all, I thought you might like to see the Mordheim gang I just finished, particularly because it features a bunch of Reaper figures. It's hard to believe I started this over ten years ago. They sat around for years with a good portion done, and lately I've had my old projects in my sites and am finishing them off. Mordheim Undead Gang I wrote about them and shared more pics in a blog post here: https://belchedfromthedepths.blogspot.com/2018/06/mordheim-undead-gang.html More pics of the reaper ones: Reaper Matthias the Twisted, Vampire I shared the vampire already here, so you may have seen him already. New backdrop with this pic for consistency. Reaper Gravedigger Reaper humans are too tall, IMO, to mix in generally with Mordheim figures, but the vampire and gravedigger are conscious exceptions as they fit right in towering over their fellows. There was no way I wasn't going to have this Reaper monkey in the crew. He's from a familiars pack. Reaper Ghouls and Ghast Reaper Hellhounds Last up are these Reaper hellhounds, or dire wolves, in Mordheim game terms. I was and am thinking of them as black dogs of yore like the barghest rather than wolves.

    Sepulchral Guard (Games Workshop)

I did these guys a few months ago. I challenged myself when I painted these guys and avoided using washes. I'm very happy with the turnout. I'd love to hear what you all think.

03748 Lich - Dark Heaven Legends

Greetings! I've been working on this scary Reaper DHL Lich for a week or so. There is a rich blue glowy effect on his eyes but it doesn't seem to have come out that clearly on these pics. Anyway, thanks for looking!
