  1. Six Reaper Bones

Okay so I dug around in the drawer and pulled out six unpainted bones that I got in my batch that I bought. I gave them all a thorough scrub with a brush and warm soapy water and a toothbrush. The ogre needed straightening up so I poured hot water over to readjust and then under cold to set. I attached all six using superglue to fender washer bases. I got this tip on you tube and have been sticking to it since I started this process. They are running out so I will look for an alternative afterwards. But these are good and solid and make a good base. So now I have to decide which figure to work on.... I have not primed any and up until now I have primed using "151" matt black spray paint. I did not know exactly what to use so I tried this when I began. I did pick up slightly after the photo and start to apply some blue to the Anhurian soldier using the same blue I mixed for a figure I was painting late last night. But without primer it did not seem to want to settle very well. The two figures I have seen painted are by Doctor Faust ; the hell hound and the ogre. Any comments/suggestions or generally helpful advice is gratefully welcomed.
  2. Barrow Warden Lord #03653

More work on getting my groove back. I've never really attempted an aged bronze, and I really enjoyed the gemstones.
  3. Hello fine people (and other assorted things) of the Reaper forum! Continuing in our project of teaming up to show you two different methods to go about painting the same miniature, Buglips and I decided that we would do a WIP thread for Con Crud, Convention Zombie from the 2017 Reapercon swag bag! He's a great little figure, sculpted by Gene Van Horne, that we thought we could have some fun with. This will be our second shared WIP thread in this series of ours, in case you missed it, check out our first one where we painted Thanis the Bonecaller: As with that one, I will be covering my usual method of painting for display, and Buglips will be approaching the figure with his own usual "fast-but-decent method." As with the last one, Buglips' method will be much faster than mine will be and you'll get to see where our two styles diverge. We will be sharing our own issues, thoughts and methods with you in the hopes that someone will find such things useful. So on to the mini! Here's my Con Crud, fresh out of his blister: I prepped him in my usual way, with some diamond files to grind off the mold lines and bit of flash that you can see on his outstretched foot and hand. He has some notable mold lines through his hair and back and down the left (his left) side of his face. I'll show you throughout the process how I'll tackle those. So here he is after I primed him with Reaper's Brush-On Primer in white, thinned down with some water. As usual, I only did one thin coat so as not to obscure the details on him and I took a couple of additional shots from different angles so you can see some of the mold lines that I'll need to work on a little more down the road.
  4. Isabella Von Carstien Diorama - GW

Greetings! I kind of finished this diorama a few years ago but have recently finished it for good with some newly aquired basing materials. I originally bought Isabella Von Carstien just to paint up as a single miniature but as her pose seemed to infer a commanding stance, I decided to expand things into a diorama by giving her an elite skeleton guard to command using a pack of GW skeletons that I had. For the actual terrain, I was inspired by a favourite old Ray Harryhausen film of mine, "The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad" where Sinbad swordfights a skeleton on a spiral staircase (which, famously, doesn't go anywhere!). It's a great scene & I wanted to create a spooky ruined spiral stone staircase for Isabella to lead from. The stonework is made from air-drying clay. I made the staircase by cutting out rolled flat wet clay "cookies" using the plastic cap off a deoderant can to create circles. I then scored lines into each wet "cookie" to create quarters & when dry, I snapped the clay into 4 quarters & tidied them up. I then glued each quarter on top of the last one leaving a eighth of the previous step showing, I repeated this until I got to the required height - I'm very pleased with how this worked out! . I then filled in all gaps between the steps to make them look like they were carved out of the stone & added some sand for texture here & there, I also pencilled in then scored some fish-scale tiles into the base. C & C are always welcome - Thanks for looking!
  5. Nethyrmaul the Undying (77190)

Hi all! Been a bit since I posted anything, so I'm going to spam a few minis that I've completed lately. This was my entry for the Reaper Facebook group dragon contest. He's the largest model I've done to date, and I'm pretty darn proud of him. C&C welcome and greatly appreciated! ~Magenta
  6. Want more WIP threads like this one? Check these out! 01614 Con Crud Hello again, friends and neighbours! Several years ago, after the Bones I kickstarter, I made a thread to help people who had just signed up for a ridiculous amount of Bones minis get used to painting and encourage them to just jump right on in! This thread was even more successful than I thought and, much to my astonishment, brings new people to our hobby even today. I thought it was time for a fresh update that might be just as helpful, and maybe give us something to point new people to when they first decide to pick up a brush and become One of Us. Often when new people come by and have no idea where to start, the first general question is: what are your aims and requirements? This basically breaks down to: do you need pieces done for a game, or do you want to paint just to paint? The idea behind this WIP is to give us something to show people the difference in practice. So with the able assistance of Guindyloo, I will be painting Thanis in my usual fast-but-decent method and she will show us how nice things can be when you spend some time on them. There are, of course, many ways to paint a mini so this thread is just an example of our present working methods and by no means serve as the only way to do it, or the final word on the matter. Those of you just joining our hobby may have your own ideas about how to do things, and by all means you should use your own best judgment! All we do here is just give you some things to think about. So on to the mini you came in here to see, and I hope this thread proves useful! Here's my Thanis, fresh from her blister pack:
  7. Lidless Eye Hobbies: Plague Zombies!

Started quite some time ago, before the more copyright-friendly Poxwalkers were introduced; here come the Plague Zombies! It's okay that they're different, Grandfather Nurgle loves us all. Plus, Zombies seem more appropriate for Halloween.
  8. When I got my Bones III Obsidian Crypt I had a little idea. https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/crypt/latest/77637 I put Kaladrax ( now Discontinued) on it. She made it her throne! I also included some pieces of the Bones III Graveyard Set, and a few other pieces I had laying around. One statue is broken because Kaladrax swung her tail when she landed. I made some roses with the basing stuff @knarthex had send me a while ago. Also my first real attempt at marble. I made red marble and white/yellow marble for the Crypt. WIP here if interested. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75896-kaladrax-on-mausoleum-by-glitterwolf/& So without further ado here is Kaladrax on her Mausoleum! Hope you like it. Feel free to like, comment and praise. Any complaints...talk to the Dragon!
  9. Lidless Eye Hobbies: Get Spooky

I may have finished Orctober early this year, but that leaves plenty of time for other Halloween themed minis this year! All spookiness comes from the Bones 3 Kickstarter...actually, I think it's all from the same Crypt Expansion, except for one of the spirits. The full haunting: The Obsidian Crypt: The Graveyard Golem: The Spirits from Beyond: The true evil of the group, the Pumpkin Minions:
  10. I am trying to break out of my lurker mode and post more. I have many excuses for my silence the last few months, one of which is my lack of a good photo set up. So I decided to just take crummy phone photos with the scant natural light angling in the windows across the room. I actually like the results. Especially since you can't see a lot of my poor painting as well. approaching the the hill from the pumpkin patch... Some surprises pop out if the ground. door is open but no one is home. . . Maybe check the other side of the fence BOO
  11. Step 0 Penny ^ ...New model in blister. ^ This guy is big enough to take up the footprint of four infantry skeletons. The penny is 19mm diameter. The plan is to give the figure a 40mm square, equivalent to four 20x20 bases arranged in a square. He will count as four members of the unit he'll be assigned to.
  12. 03575: Barrow Wight Guardian

Here's a few picks of a Barrow Wight Guardian that I started last week and only just got around to getting pics of. What's really funny is that this figure has been primed, on a base and in storage for nearly ten years. Future plans include: 1. Fresh damage to armor. 2. Free hand image on shield. 3. Weathering and rust on sword and armor. 4. Green glow from eyes, mouth, and neck of armor. Feel free to share ideas for shield image, I have no ideas right now.
  13. Bones Mummy Captain

As I said before, I finally have a camera (well, it's actually my wife's new smart phone) that can take reasonable pictures of miniatures. Now I just have to learn how to take good pictures (and learn how to paint ...). Here is the Bones Mummy Captain. As always, I'm aiming for tabletop standard as playing with the miniatures is the first goal. I should probably start doing more/better highlights (any other CC welcome).
  14. Mummy #77144

The undead are always fun and easy to paint. Id like to accumulate more varieties in the future. This mummy practically painted himself.
  15. FitzBones: Scythe Wraith

My Bones III Kickstarter fulfillment arrived a couple of days ago, and I've been happily sorting through them. I've engaged in all three Reaper kickstarters so far, but I doubt that I'll do another — it's not that they're not a good deal, but there's always a very, very long wait for them to arrive, and they've all been very heavy on the character figures, of which I really do have an ample supply. I mainly want the monsters, and it'll be simpler just to buy them individually when they eventually appear in the shop. I chose this one to start the painting with, mainly because it would be very quick and easy to do, and in fact it only took about twenty minutes. It probably would have taken longer if I'd actually removed any of the mould lines, which I kind of forgot about in my enthusiasm. I don't know what its SKU is; I couldn't find it with a (fairly brief) search in the online store.
  16. Graveyard Expansion Ghost

1st time poster longtime lurker :) Its my 1st time working on a ghost mini and I am looking for some advice. I and using the white basecoat then verdigris technique to try and paint this guy up but I feel like there is something missing from it. I also feel like the I need to do something with the center hollow part on his front side. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance all!
  17. I was happily scrounging through my mountain of unpainted minis when I started to combine some stuff. Anyway. THIS is going to happen now. It will take time so be patient ( I know you're not, but I needed to say it!) I will need a big piece of MDF, and then start thinking about adding the rest of most of the Graveyard set and other stuff to this. Feel free to steal or be inspired. I have tried this with Nethymaul but she needs more conversion to fit on the roof , mainly her tail.. And come on! Kaladrax has the right imposing look for this.
  18. Nosferatu - an ub3r WIP

As if I don't already have enough projects, I can't keep him waiting any longer! This is Nosferatu, a limited edition bust from Green Monkey Models. I have copy 11/50. This sculpt is amazingly detailed, it's creepy and awesome. I'm going to try out some new undead skin tones on this bust and just have some fun. I'll elicit all of your comments and critiques as I go through this project as well! As you can see he's nearly 90mm tall, a pretty sizable bust. I'm going to clean up the little bits of putty I used to make sure the seams where his arms join his body are smooth and even and then use the airbrush to layer on some primer!
  19. Lidless Eye Hobbies: Undying Lords

Inhuman. Eternal. Undying. The Guardian of the Maze: The Lord of Death: He Walked with Dragons: Last of his House: The Eternal Hunger: Doomed and Dying: This set was a lot of fun to paint. Sharp detail and simple features. Non-human Undead are always fun and relatively rare in miniature representation. I hope they get a follow-up!
  20. Ghost - 77007

Practicing spookiness before taking a crack at Mansions of Madness ghosts.
  21. bones III Minotaur Skeleton

So finally go done sorting out my box of bones 3 and decided to do the minotaur skelly to break the seal. I really the undying lords set. Such fun to paint and fairly easy for a newb like myself. As always would love to hear constructive criticism. AJ AJ
  22. I finished my current semester of school a few weeks ago and wanted to ease back into painting with something simple and something from my shelf of shame. I'm not real pleased with the highlights on the cloak, overall I'm happy with him as he ended up in a nice muted tone. Feedback welcome and wanted.
  23. Well after watching @Rahz paint up some of his Black Plague Abominations, I decided I wanted to get started on mine. So I though I'd gather up a WIP of my Journey through all the Zombicide Abominations. Modern: Season 1, Toxic CIty Black Plague: Core (x2), Wolfsburg (x2),Rat, Alpha, Troll, Blob, and Minotaur I decided to start with the Core BP set Abominations. I also wanted to try out my scale 75 F&G Unnatural Skin set. So here is where I begun.
  24. Zombie vs. Skellyman

So, this may seem to be an odd question, and it probably is. In terms of standard fantasy RPGs like D&D, AD&D, Pathfinder, and OSR what really differentiates a zombie from a skeleton in terms of undeath? Is it just that it has skin where a skeleton does not. So if a zombie loses all of its skin does it then become a skeleton? A variant zombie?
