    Interdimensional Beast

I was watching the Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 and it occurred to me ... using the same techniques I used to make my Kuden sand worm I could make a Interdimensional Beast ... that shoots energy out of its mouth ... a Beast from another dimension with some soggy paper towels and a glue gun ... he just got put on my list ... It then occurred to me, my brain is not nearly as large as I like to think it is ... so I deduced their has to be a metric ton of other monsters out there than would not take a professional to make ... hence my call out to other monster fans ... cool monsters, with not too many fiddly parts ... what's the best 'makeable' monster ?
  2. Every DM needs wolves. These were bare metal used on the gaming table for far too long! I've been wanting to paint these for a long time, but was intimidated by the fur. I finally decided to take the plunge. I did some research on the web for images for inspiration, as well as the forums. Here's what I came up with. C&C Welcome. First, the individuals. Here was the inspiration photo from google images for a varied color gray wolf. This is what I came up with for him. Coincidentally, it ended up very similar to Anne's picture on the Reaper Web Store. Next, I wanted a run-of-the-mill gray wolf. Here is an inspiration photo. And the model. And, as these are all for our Reign of Winter Adventure Path, I wanted a white wolf! Here was the inspiration. I was surprised to find so much cream and not so much white, so I tried to replicate it on the model. I also tried blue eyes, but they didn't pop quite well enough. And I threw on some snow and cork "rocks." I wasn't entirely happy with it overall, but it is acceptable. Finally, here are some group shots. Overall, I had fun painting these, and knocked all three out in about a week. That's SUPER fast for me.
  3. Another lazy painting day with my wonderful husband produced this. I grabbed this guy out of the Vampire box not really knowing what to make of it. Even after boiling it didn't seem to stand well on any combination of the 6 legs, so I posed it on 3 of the rear legs that touched the base, kind of like it was rearing up in front. I wanted the legs to be black and beetle-like, with some blue green sheen, and I wanted the upper portion to reflect the "oxidation" part of the name. I just started dabbing paint on until it looked good. Since it has a little of every color in the spectrum, I refer to it as the the eastern lesser rainbow bug.
  4. So here he is so far. He's being made for my daughter, so his name will probably end up being, Buckbeak... And that's okay. But I'm painting it in more of a golden eagle and bay color scheme, rather than the gray. I tried a dusky white/gray scheme first, but the sculpt didn't lend itself to those colors... I couldn't for the land find a satisfactory, unpainted hippogryph, so I used Starmane, Unicorn (02151) and Griffon (77157)--both lovely sculpts by Sandra Garrity. Took a little wiring to make it solid and to act as a skeleton for first plumber's epoxy, then greenstuff. The base is the bottom of a spackling tub reinforced with construction cloth and filled with epoxy (the 'grypy's wings make it a bit top heavy). I think it'll look pretty good when finished--soon I hope!

    77156: Owlbear

This is my first completed miniature in March. He's not really all that complicated but I must have agonized over his colors plenty of times. Also one of my first major basing experiments with using milliput to sort of hide the plastic "base" he comes in in one of the new reaper medium bases. Was trying to imitate the sort of pattern his inherent base had, not sure I was too successful but at least the color contrast makes him pop a bit. Anyways, comments and criticism are as always welcome! *edited for grammar

    Rescue Mission

Hey all! Second post in a night. Whoo! Okay, well Vanja was my first mini ever, and I've decided I'd like to post my 2nd and 3rd attempts at mini-painting. These are both non-reaper, to my knowledge. They were purchased from the $1 "Box of Misfit Minis" from my local comic store, so I decided to rescue them in an attempt to give them new life. As I mentioned in my previous topic, I use Amsterdam acrylics (red, yellow, blue, black, white) and mix them. I also have a few metallic craft paints that I use as well (and in the case of the blue dude, I used a bit of nail polish, too.) As always, critiques are welcome! EDIT: I've been informed that the first mini is a Beastman of Chaos from Games Workshop and the dwarf is RAFM. Not sure how to edit tags at this point, but once I do, the info will be updated. Phase Cat

Basing has been difficult with the past couple of figures I worked on. This wasn't quite my vision, but I love the model and it was a must have when I 1st layed eyes on it.
  9. So, I should explain a bit. My current campaign of D&D 4E has required me obtaining and painting multiple Medium sized Bear like minis. Said game has an Elven Sentinel Druid with a Bear Animal Companion that is also a Werebear! Since the game is rapidly approaching the level that Were-Bears can become a Hybrid form, I've had to work on finishing those minis. So without further ado, I present Peevo the Wonderbear and Dara Silverleaf's bear and Hybrid Forms! Peevo the Wonderbear Dara's Bear Form Dara's Hybrid Form Peevo has had a Badly made Fez with Tassle added to the original mini. Hybrid Dara originally had a weird Shovel-Battleaxe-thing. Chopped off the ends of those, added a brass stick, Glued a small green bead to the end of that and used some Procreate to add the "braided" root-like stuff. These are also the first minis I've painted since I got Prescription Magnifying eyeglasses. They have helped immensely! GF

    Donkey Kong!?!?

Growing up in the 80's, I was a Gamer before I even started Kindergarden. Playing my Atari 2600 and my Uncle's Game Systems, I became an advid Gamer early on. One of those cherished early Memories is Playing Donkey Kong at my Uncle's house. Fast forward about 3 decades, I've stayed a fan of the classic Video Games and Retro Video Games like them. But I've added a few new interests to my Life, Role Playing Games and Miniature games. Also, I've become a rather decent Miniature Painter over the last decade. And now I can mix all of those Interests into one project...this one! So, a little bit about the Mini in Question. Once a standard DDM Dire Ape, it was modified for me by Benoit of the Roving Band of Misfits Blog with help from the Guys at Going Last Blog and Podcast. I won a contest done by Benoit's Blog and gave him the Mini at GenCon 2011 just before the FourthCore Team Deathmatch. I got it back about 5-6 Months later fully modified. It is Awesome and I knew I needed a bit more skill to give Painting it a try. Well, that time is NOW! All he has so far is Primer and a Base Coat. But I am determined to do my best. Wish me luck:) He be Spoilered for those with Questionable Inter-Webs quality.
