    Some Things Transcend

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mcahogarth/some-things-transcend/description About Many years ago, I accidentally started a story about a man who accidentally started a war, and that was a wild ride to the end, or at least, to what I thought was the end. Until I accidentally started a short story sequel that became a novel that made it clear that if we're going to start a war, we should at least see it through to the conclusion of its opening stages. Which is where this book comes in. Some Things Transcend is the second book in the Princes' Game series, which picks up directly where Book 1, Even the Wingless, leaves off. This is a six-book series, and only Book 1 has a paperback or audio edition. It's time to change that. But wait! You say. I'm one of your fans, but I don't know this series. Why should I contribute to this? And lo, I say to you: the Princes' Game series interweaves with most of the other "modern" Peltedverse novels. Don't believe me? Have a look at this sketch of a timeline, where the stories of Reese and Hirianthial are in green, and the events of Princes' Game in red: Even if epic war stories with violence, "adult situations," headgames, crazy redemption arcs, alcohol and drugs, revolts and revolutions, more crazy redemption arcs, and moral, ethical, and philosophical discussions are not your cup of tea, the events of the PG series will inform future series in the Peltedverse, which I am already at work on! But wait AGAIN! You say. What if I've never read any of your work at all! And then I would say to you, "You can start with the free novel Earthrise" if you want a space opera romp in a universe populated with friendly aliens, fuzzy critters, space elves, and humans all working together, or you can start with the novel Mindtouch if you want a gentle "forever friendship" story of college students coming of age, or you can leap right into the R-rated, HBO-compatible Princes' Game series with Even the Wingless. Because epic war stories with violence, "adult situations," headgames, crazy redemption arcs, alcohol and drugs, revolts and revolutions, more crazy redemption arcs, and moral, ethical, and philosophical discussions! But wait a THIRD time! I'm not into HBO-compatible anything! Or I don't like difficult stories without preparation! Don't worry, I've got you covered. I have a set of summaries of the entire series so you can read "ahead" and know what to prepare yourself for. (It's full of spoilers, but that's the point!) Go pick it up! Or don't, if you hate spoilers and prefer surprises! Stretch Goals So, some stretch goals! Just in case, even though this is only a week! $750 - Are you tired of bookmarks yet? I hope you're not tired of bookmarks yet! At $750, everyone who gets a physical reward will receive one! You need more bookmarks! $1000 - I will write a short story about Vasiht'h telling Sehvi about his experiences during the events of Dreamhealers 5, "Family"! You know you want more Vasiht'h and Sehvi time. Everyone will receive an e-copy! $1500 - Wait, another short? Yes, absolutely! This one will be a vignette, with Jahir's POV of acquiring the jackal chest and amulet rampant and communicating with 'the ambassador' during the events of Wingless. Everyone will receive an e-copy! Over $1500 - I will wiggle a lot! And then tuck that money away to pay for the audiobook, which will probably cost about $3000. No, I am not expecting you all to hit $3000 in a week. I love y'all but please, buy groceries and stuff. <3 But Jaguar! You say. Why are your stretch goals so modest! Why don't you do Chatcaava plushes! We would totally be on board with Chatcaava plushes! Because, dear backers, I don't want to fall down on this job for you, and that means humble goals. *bows* I admit Chatcaava plushes would be adorbs though. But Jaguar, AGAIN! What if we want more vignettes or shorts!? I'm not opposed to this idea. Tell me what you're interested in seeing. >.> Oh, and before I forget, the original for the Collector Level: Risks and challenges As much as possible I've streamlined this one so it takes very little by way of work. I've gotten very good at packing and shipping things! I think the biggest risks are: 1. I get hyper and start throwing in prizes and things that I shouldn't because I like running myself to ragged shreds doing stuff; 2. I get too perfectionist about the things and fuss them to death over millimeter differences in whitespace only I am going to care about. I think I'll be able to handle #2 since I've done OVER NINE THOUSAND of these Kickstarters. It's #1 you all are going to have to help me with. Sit on me if I start gibbering about something that sounds impossible, please?
  2. I really enjoyed a previous project (Half-Cat, though hampered by problems with Chinese printers). This one is live, and finished in 6 days. Some seriously short flash fiction postcards. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockpapercynic/postcards-from-impossible-worlds-the-shortest-stor

    Dreamhearth

One of my favorite authors have a new KS project... Because there just ain't enough slice of life or baking in modern Sci-Fi books... About Years ago I wrote a science fiction story about two forever-friends, unlike in almost every way--species, backgrounds, temperaments, orientations--and how they came together in a relationship that would last through every tribulation, including an intergalactic war. When readers asked me how they met, I wrote their college story. When readers asked me what happened next, I wrote how they began their xenotherapy practice. I'm still writing about them, in fact, because they are, bar none, my readers' best loved couple. Their names are Jahir and Vasiht'h, and they are dreamhealers. Some people call their story an asexual romance, but whether you go for that or prefer 'forever besties', these stories are about growing up, making choices, figuring out relationships, deciding on what your life means--or should--and baking. A lot of baking. They are cozy slice-of-life novels, and there aren't a lot of novels like them in science fiction. If cups of tea are your cup of tea, you might enjoy checking out Book 1 and 2 respectively. There's an e-book reward tier; you can choose one of them! This Kickstarter in particular is to fund the print edition for Book 3, Dreamhearth, and possibly Books 4 and 5, Dreamstorm and Family, if we hit our stretch goals. I love space ships and aliens and epic war sagas. But science fiction has room for quieter stories about what you want to be when you grow up, and the thorny personal challenges of day-to-day life. If you also love spaceships and aliens but want a moment's respite... you might have come to the right place. Stretch Goals We've got plenty to look forward to this time, including the opportunity for two more paperbacks! Bookmark 1. At $750, we'll get Jahir bookmarks! Every print backer will get one! Dreamstorm paperback. At $1000, we'll hit the Dreamstorm stretch goal, opening new tiers! Bookmark 2. At $1500, we'll get the Vasiht'h bookmarks! All print backers will get both bookmarks! Family paperback. At $2000, we'll do a print edition of the final book in the series, Family, opening Yet More Tiers! Risks and challenges As much as possible I've streamlined this one so it takes very little by way of work. Leisynn, Mercenary Mage 77174

Painted this fig last night for an upcoming adventure. I've needed a generic evil wizard for a while now. I found this guy at my local game store and decided he would be perfect. I did have some grand plans with his spell book that didn't turn out. I was planning on making script on one page that looked like it was glowing starting at the top left, and continuing until about the middle of the page as if the words were magically glowing as he cast a spell. The results ended up looking like the script was squiggly lines with green slime spilled on them. Other than that, I'm really happy with how he turned out. Advice and critiques welcome as always! Thanks in advance!

02835: Jolie, Female Scribe - Blue Wizard

Sometimes you eat the paint, and sometimes the paint eats you. This one is closer to the latter. Here’s Jolie the blue-themed Scribe: I just wanted to relax and have some fun with this mini, and try out some paints for the first time. So I started out basecoating her robes in Frosty Blue from the holiday set, and it looked pretty good. Used some Rosy Skin and Scholar Flesh on her skin, and it looked pretty good. Unboxed the blond hair triad and laid down the mid tone and it looked pretty good, which was when it became apparent I was painting Disney’s Cinderella. That could not stand, so I threw some gray in front and gave her a pink sash, which was originally a dark blue then an ill-advised red. I’m honestly pleased at how those parts turned out, especially the highlights in front. The rest of the model was a series of small disasters in shadow and highlights, and at some point I decided it was as good as it was going to get, tossed some Palomino Gold on the fancy bits, and put an end to the struggle. Though I did take the opportunity to try painting sheer clothing, not sure if it works (gloved forearm): C&C appreciated.

01601: Domur, High Mage (25th anniversary)

This year is the year of giving miniatures as birthday gifts to the friends I game with. One of these fine fellows--my oldest and dearest friend--has a birthday in a couple weeks. He loves magic-users and is obsessed with Harry Potter, so I painted up a 25th anniversary Domur as a classic "Gandalf the Grey" style wizard for his present: Tried to layer the flames to give some interesting and pleasing texture. Let me know how I did. Also, given his love for all things Potter, I did my best to modify Domur's spellbook to a more familiar book cover... I'm actually surprised I could keep the brush steady enough for it to come across at all similar, to be honest.
  7. This is Reaper 03042, the second version of Morrdha, Vampire Noble, sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I don't know what his story is, but both versions are casting something from a book of Up to No Good, and both have a little demon thing lurking at their feet. I loved the lively cape on this figure, and the melodrama. I decided to paint him ginger and make his armor look appallingly rusty. Oh, right, and while I did not exactly do NMM or anything, I did paint his sword with pigmented colors instead of my usual sloshing on of metallic silver. There is no WIP thread, but I would be happy to answer questions. Comments and critiques are also welcome.

    Mouseling Wizard - 77548

Painted this little guy up last night. I am trying to get 5 more finished before tomorrow. If my players make the wrong choice in the riddle they will be given, they will all be turned into Mouselings! He is very cute and was a ton of fun to paint. I will post photos of the others as I get them finished. C&C welcome
  11. So, I've started going through my Bones figures and this is one of my first finished efforts the picture in the book was meant to be a constellation but looks more like a plant.
  12. Greetings! Presenting Reaper's February 25th Anniversary miniature - Domur, High Mage. I got sidelined by a multiple dragon project recently so I'm a little bit behind with my 25th Anniversary figures project but I'm getting back on track now. I opted out of doing OSL on the spell effect & decided on something gaseous & non photonic (at least, that's the excuse I'm sticking to! ). I wanted to have the spell effect go through a distinctive colour change so I came up with a counjouring technique to explain it; First, Domur reads from the book, this causes a white inert harmless spirit to appear from the pages of the book. Then, as the spirit wafts closer to the magic crystal in Domur's staff, it takes in it's massive power (& colour) & becomes weaponised......... I used metallic blue paint to highlight the inner lining of the cape for an extra touch of wizardly oppulence. Finally, I've managed to sneak my favourite purple into the book cover - I'll be "shoehorning" this colour into all my Reaper 25th anniversary minis as a form of unification. 2 Down, 10 to go....... Thanks for looking!
  13. A promising looking book based on the previews posted on the Kickstarter and his blog. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1017093796/arsies-painting-toolbox-a-miniature-painting-monog?ref=email From the KS: "Arsies’s Painting ToolBox is a monograph on miniature painting written by me, Javier González, also known by my artist name “Arsiesâ€. It is aimed at all model enthusiasts who wish to widen their toolkit repertoire when taking on a new project. For those who don’t know me, I’ve been a full-time professional miniature painter since 2009. During this time, I’ve been working as a freelancer both for professional miniature brands such as Origen Art, Stormtroopers, Infamy Miniatures, Nocturna Models, Big Child Productions and some others, and for private collectors and museums. A while ago I set about collecting everything I could transmit in one document, and it turned out to be enough to write a book. This is the book I’m presenting today. Arsies’s Painting Toolbox is my toolkit, a compilation of techniques, knowledge and resources that I use when undertaking a project. I hope that you will add all the tools I offer you to your own, so as to have various options to carry out the same task; this is something that helps us to grow in any field, but even more in the field of model figures, where creativity is a top priority."
  14. The small gaming community that got it's first two legs early last year is starting to flourish over here. :) Gathered a few people for DnD 5th. edition, too, now. I've made myself a Warlock. He will be drawing his strength from a Great Old One, only referred to as the King in Yellow. ^^ Guess what book his pact of the tome is inspired from. Hint: It's bound in human flesh, and inked in blood..
  15. This Kickstarter is for production and printing of a new edition of a book that the author had originally self published over a decade ago: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1155053944/the-fantastic-worlds-of-grenadier/description I do have a few concerns about the way the Kickstarter is organized and laid out. I suspect the project creator has little or no experience with Kickstarter. No information about shipping costs and stating that there is no risk to backing their project, as well as a 60 day running time with an expected delivery date of only 3 months after the project ends all make me a bit wary. I'm also concerned about him having the rights to use artists work from Grenadiers products in his book. Having said that, the reviews I can find of his original book have generally been positive. It would seem interviews with a number of key people at Grenadier were missing, as well as several of their more well known sculptors. So yeah. Tempted and interested, but also a bit wary. I'll be watching it to see if any of my concerns are addressed.

    60172: Hosilla

I finished up this project this morning. The staff/glaive is my second real attempt at NMM and I'm not entirely happy with the transitions. All part of practicing, though. She was a fun one to paint!

In an effort to keep clearing out my Bones I models, I painted this guy today. Had a lot of fun with him. Side note: I hate spotting flaws as soon as I take pictures...

    02391: Kimberlee the Fair

Kimberlee spent a few years patiently reading and sitting on my paint table waiting her turn. I slowly added leftover green stuff to her base over the months, then recently realized I had no space left to fill. She looked at me, I looked at her, then put the fighter I was about to paint down and focused on her. She is indeed fair. I freehanded the floor boards for fun.

    Coptic-stitched notebook

Totally stealing this idea from Reaperbryan... I'm making my own notebook that I'll be using during Fantasy AGE sessions. I prepared the covers today - a thin(ish) sheet of maple, cut into two pieces. I left the raw edge on there because it amuses me, and I don't see a need for any better reason than that. And then I clamped the two pieces together with a piece of MDF behind, and drilled holes for the stitching: The MDF was behind the back cover so I'd end up with a nice clean hole; without the backer piece, drill bits have a tendency to tear up the wood as they exit the back. Now I just need to find some thread and get stitchin'... oh, and find stain and stain the boards. That might be good too. Unfortunately, I have a specific stain I want to use (actually an oil/stain blend) that's only available in one store and I don't think I can get to the store before Saturday, because they close by 5 each night and they're almost a 45 minute drive from my office, so... slightly out of the range for a lunchtime trip.
  21. I got my Book today! Woot. Comparing it to the CAV: SO preview PDF I see that the book went through some MAJOR rethinking. //Graphic design is much better by the way. // So now, what about a PDF version? Thoughts? Plans? Will come free for KS backers?

    RBG: Olsvalter the Aged

Olsvalter the Aged by Tre Manor -Norse Human I am attempting to do more work with pigment rather than glazing with inks for shading. After reading the discussion about it, I thought it would be a good idea to push myself. The base is custom with spackle, The design is done by me, although you can't see it right now. This photo is not white balanced: It looked really odd when I tried to do it... The display of the colors is accuate though. The light bits are a light shade of GW: Shadow Grey.

    Custom Redemptionist #2

Second character pieced together from the bits pile. Flagellants and techno priest parts. Sword.. might be lizard men bit. Not happy with the osl here, but it's for the tabletop, so I might just flesh it out later. :)
  24. Jaws

    Prodos, Cardinal Dominic

Painted for the tabletop, this will be the leader of my Redemtionists in Necromunda. For the uninitiated; They are basically religious fanatics, who believe all sinners must burn away their sins. And anyone who isn't a redemtionist is a sinner. They go around burning anything and anyone they think might be impure. And here is a closeup of his pretty face. I love this miniature. :D
