  1. Okay so Epic may not be appropriate, but I'll let you judge that for yourself. I got my hands on a Dragons Don't Share 2 at Adepticon (thank you reaper Bryan and Reaper Ed!) and I decided to begin a fairly substantial diorama with it. I'm still working on an appropriate name for the piece. I'll have a narrative story to go with it, but the Idea is still changing slightly as I build this. I hope to have this ready for ReaperCon 2016. So to start, This is how one carries a DDS2 home on a motorcycle... And no he will not share with you... On to the actual Diorama! The ideas started when we purchased a Lack end table from Ikea for about $3 from their as is section. We needed the legs but not the top. So I decided that the top would make a great diorama base and it is 22" which is 2" smaller than the size limit for most painting competitions near me (and reapercon). The idea is that an army of Dwarves are attempting to take down a dragon that has been harassing their kingdom. They find the dragon in some ruins near the creek and ambush him. So with this in mind, I started to lay out how I wanted things to be situated. This was a rough test to see how the DDS2 scaled to the table top. I think it worked well. So then it was on to Reaper's website to see about finding the right dwarves for this. I knew I wanted 2 team of Dwarves with chains trying to subdue the dragon. The dragons pose even looks like he is in mid attack so this works well enough. I ordered 6 14596: Kragmarr Guard to act as the chain crews. It will be a fairly straightforward swap from their spears to holding a chin (I hope). I plan to use the dwarf that came with the DDS2 set but not any of the other adventurers. Also shown is 14607 Kragmarr Ram Rider though I'm not sure if he will stay, 14379 Shield Maiden, and 02376 Brag Ironballs. I still need to order some crossbow wielding dwarves and some rank and file dwarves to add to the scene. Plus some dead adventurers and skellys to add to the scenery. right now I have 10 Dwarves in the scene with plans to add at least another 15-20. I'll also be raising the scene on cork so that the building terrain is at slightly different levels and I can add a creek. This is where I am at so far, I have to wait until payday to order more dwarves. I'll leave a nice list of all of the Miniatures I'm using as i go to make it easier. This is an over view of where the Diorama sits now with more dwarves.... Need to re-aim this group I think... Brag Ironballs showing how he got his name... Minis Used so far... 77381: Dragons Don't Share - 2014 Edition (Dragon, Terrain, and Dwarf only) 14596: Kragmarr Guard (x6) 02376: Brag Ironballs 14379: Dwarven Shieldmaiden 14607: Kragmarr Ram Rider

    Ork Kill Team

I'm BACK! Sorry for the long absence. But, I've still been painting and I give you a 200pt Ork Kill Team I painted up and played. These won the best painted award nearly unanimously (I never vote for myself) and sadly went 0 of 3. I though I'd share them here and let everyone know I'm still ok. Group Shot (sorry, camera was really dirty and didn't know it) Some indiviual shots of some of the Orks (not all of them though)
  3. Happy birthday, CAVmaster and terrain afficionado!
  4. I decided to reboot by old space marine army and here is my first finished mini for that endeavor. I decided to go with an older look and am thus buying as much of the forge world minis for this as is possible. Yes it is very expensive but I'll enjoy they way it looks better. And since all of my old imperial fists minis need rebasing anyway, I thought I'd start over. The bases I'm using for this are the secret weapon blasted wetlands. I'm also using the Imperial Fists decal sheet from forge world. Thus, I give you the Imperial Fists MKII Standard bearer. This is a closeup of the banner. I used the forge world decal sheet for this. The dorn and the banner background are 2 different decals stacked. Now a comparison of what the rest of the old army looks like. I think the new ones are going to be WAY better. This also shows how far I've come in my 15+ years of painting.

    CAV Bones Raijin

FInished this Raijin in my Terran Desert Wasteland Scheme. There are SOOOO many missiles to paint. It matches the Starhakw VI I painted. I'm starting to achieve a cohesive looking force.

    CAV Bones Ashigaru

Finished of both of my Ashigaru in my terran desert wasteland scheme. I airbrushed the basecoat on these. I spent about 2 hours yesterday basecoating all my terran forces with the airbrush (about 20 models).

    CAV Bones Starhawk VI

This is the first CAV for my Terran 101st Legion. I went with a NATO/ Dirty Desert style for these. These are only to tabletop level for ease of touchups later. Colors are: RMS Terran Khaki Army Painter Strong Tone RMSHD Mustard Yellow RMSHD Ice Blue RMS Rach Red Army Painter Black I haven't decided if these will get the same black rock/ green grass base treatment that my other forces have or if I should go with something different. Pics...

    CAV Bones Rach Despot

Finished the first of my CAV Bones Kickstarter. This is a tabletop quality piece but I thought I'd share. The Red is the Rach Red that was in the kickstarter with a Secret Weapon soft body black wash. I used RMSHD Dirty Grey and Army Painter White for the freehand and turrent launcher. RMS Troll Shadow was used for the treads and wheels with soft body black and P3 Pig Iron for the gun barrel and metal details on the wheels. Its not super detailed but will look good for gaming use and is easily touched up if needed. Pics...
  9. Happy birthday! May it once again be filled with fishing and jeeps.

    CAV Power Armored Infantry

Here are the first of 2 sets of Power Armored Infantry for my Malvernis force. These are also a simple tabletop job though I couldn't resist adding the unit marking on them and making one base have a medic. These guys painted up really quickly and are surprisingly detailed for their size.

    CAV Butcher

Go a bunch of minis painted up yesterday so I thought I'd share them. Here is my Malvernis Butcher for CAV SO. This is an all metal figure not BONES. It's a simple tabletop job as I plan to rule the galaxy with these.

    Summer Exchange Piece for Pktlnt

Herein Lies my Summer exchange piece I did for Pktlnt. He asked for something fabulous and gave some inspiration of "an unlikely superhero". I started thinking of my favorite superheros and was coming up with blanks for how to make them work. Until I dug through my drawer of shame and found 2 things needed to make this work. A paladin and a shield. This ended up having a bit more freehand work than I usually attempt. I also did a bit of converting to make it work including fileing off some details on the shield. But that said this is my favorite piece I've made yet. I'm gonna go order another paladin and make one for me! The pics will explain everything... Closeup of shield and face... Closer look at the freehand...

    Tuma Windrider

With the sudden surge of busts being done recently, I decided to finally start the one I have sitting on my paint desk. It is Tuma Windrider from Ledgendarion Miniatures and it is a beast of a bust. This is one of the better resin casts I have seen as there was very little flash and almost no pinhole that needed filling and the detail is on another level from what I usually paint. Having finally gotten my airbrush setup finished, I plan to use my airbrush for a good amount of the painting. This is a good sized mini that I think will be a great place to start with airbrush blending. Or it could go horribly wrong and end up in the dip. I'll also be breaking out my lathe to make a nice display base for this. Maybe some African hardwood or something. Not sure yet. Thus far I have only removed what mold lines I could see on the larger part. I haven't touched the shield or weapons just yet. So on to some pics of where I am now... hair details... Paint Me...

    Nai-Khanon, Reptus Hero

I started this guy shortly after the start of the new year. He took about 18 days to finish. He will be part of my Warlord Reptus army. In keeping with the idea that each class of lizard has a different skin tone, this guy is painted in red and is armed with bone swords as the rest of the army. I really took my time with this guy and hopefully it shows. This is the 5th model finished for my Warlord army. As usual, feel free to comment or critique.

    Bones Tiamat CAV

I finished my first bones CAV received from the early bird kickstarter. Its been years since I've painted a mech so its not quite as great of a paintjob when compared to the fantasy stuff i've been doing lately. Still, it was a joy to paint up the first member of the Black Dragon Mercs. As usual, feel free to comment. I could use the direction on how to improve my mechs.
  20. Happy birthday! May it be filled with fish and Jeeps.
  21. So I took a short break to fix the wifes car and have now gotten back to painting again with a new figure. My previous incomplete WIP's will get some love again soon enough. I've been wanting to paint a Dwarf now for some time and this is by far one of my favorite Dwarf sculpts. He has a TON of little details on him and I am hoping to pick them out without making everything look too busy. I'll try to remember what paints were used as I go though many of them are limited edition or sample paints from reaper. I began by cleaning off all of the flash (there wasn't much) and spraying him with Krylon duo primer in white. I was going to pin the axe hand however I don't have a small pinvise and the large stationary pin vise i have was burried. So I superglued without pinning. Should be OK since I don't use these for gaming much. On to the Paints. All my colors are thinned down approximately 1:1 with water. For the face, I used MSP HD Suntan Flesh. These HD paints have become my go to for flesh tones. They cover nicely with 1 or 2 coats even when thinned. I did add a couple more coats in the areas of the face I wanted to be darker. I will eventually go in with a darker color to bring the contrast up a bit but in person you can kind of see it already. The bags are Painted in 2-3 coats of MSP Snakebite Leather. This color is starting to grow on me a bit and I am finding new uses for it. I may go back and paint a few other leather Items with this color later. I'm using 2 different leather base coats to diferentiate the different layers of leather on the figure and to keep the colors balanced somewhat. Finally I base coated all of the armor and metal areas that I intend to be brass or bronze in a thinned coat of MSP Brown Liner. I've been using brown liner for a while now as a metal base coat as it gives a better look than black does. It really helps with golds and bronzes, but it also gives silver a bit of a grittier look as well. I am trying a new bronze technique that I came up with myself so we will see how it goes. I'll have more pics tomorrow. As usual, any critiques are welcome.

    Durin Dwarf Pathfinder Sgt. (14465)

Another finished mini! I feel that this is a different level of painting for me. He has close to 14 hours of actual work in him. I have a WIP post here : http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/56398-fishnjeeps-paints-durin-dwarf-pathfinder-sgt-14465/?p=947468 His left eye presented a bit of a challange in the way it was sculpted, so I gave him a scar there. This mini has a LOT of little details and I feel I piced them out well and still kept the figure's colors in balance. With all of the detail he has, I didn't feel he needed a fancy base. So I used some Army Painter black fine gravel and some of their static grass and tufts to give a more barren feel to his base. In hindsight, I think I would have liked a more dwarven base like those made by armorcraft, but I didn't want to try to unglue him halfway through painting. Anyway, may I present, Durin Dwarf Pathfinder Sgt. Also known as Glarif the Impulsive Dwarf in the pbp in my sig. Enjoy! And as always, spay & neut... Wait, I mean Comment and Critique!!
  23. Somewhere someone on this board used the clear tamiya paints on their translucent bones, I can't remember who it was offhand, and I tried it and have painted all of my translucent bones with this paint first. I though I'd show the difference that this paint makes on these figures by painting two fire elementals. I slathered Tamiya clear red onto both figures generously. Unlike most basecoats, a thick coat won't obscure details like regular paint would, it just take longer to dry. A word of warning, while this paint does clean up with water, it is still a solvent based paint and does have an odor, take precautions and use in a ventilated area, also don't use your good Kolinsky brushes as this paint WILL STAIN brushes (and Jeans). I used a synthetic flat bristle brush size 2 for the basecoating. So, on to the Pictoral commentary... This is the Medium Fire Elemental right out of the package. And this is the same elemental after being painted in Tamiya Clear red paint. Bear in mind that this paint is dried when the picture was taken. Here is a (Hopefully) better side by side comparison with the Large fire elemental. And here is just the large fire elemental after being painted. I will be adding other fire colors as I go, I've already started adding some yellow details to the large Elemental and I'll post and update as I get each color added. hopefully this helps some of you who are looking to intensify the coloring of your translucent bones. This also works with the Green translucents and tamiya clear green.
