  1. Good morning all, so my group of six hobgoblins has finally been completed, the female archer from Reaper, the Shadowrun punk goblin and now these four Hackmaster Goblins. It feels like I've been working on them forever but in reality, I probably started working on all of them in mid-November, so I guess it just feels long, and wasn't actually too god-awful time consuming. Like the other hobgoblins, I worked on their skins all together and they are pure orange, I kind of deviated I think a bit from the official Monster Manual that talked about them being orange to red toned. I did throw blue noses on these ones however, as they had pretty good noses for the coloring. And with these, I'm putting in lots of photos because they are in kind of poses what best show from a number of angles, so hopefully this is okay. The photos are pretty small so they shouldn't make anybody's life too miserable. And one question if anybody knows. Does anybody have an inkling who actually sculpted these? These I think are back from around 2003. I tried to make sure the armor looked worn, as I didn't figure this rag-tag bunch of beasties would be taking too good of care of their items, so hopefully it doesn't come off as too shiny. I didn't make it too rusty however. I did throw in some washes of rust brown here and there. Anyways, hope you all enjoy these little creatures! I think I'm done with hobgoblins for a good, long while!

    Lidless Eye Hobbies: Early Orctober

Orctober got an early start this year, mostly due to me pouring too much green paint when I was doing the base tones on my Bones III Monsters: First, the actual Orcs! I liked the thematic continuation of the Orcs from Bones 1. Painted with them, and only cousins to the theme of Orctober, come the Hobgoblins! There were a few frustrating details on these sculpts, and some odd undercuts, but their paint scheme stayed relatively simple. I don't use Hobgoblins often; I think the only time they've shown up in anything I've run has been premade adventures where they show up as random henchmen.

    Hobgobageddon ( photo heavy)

So here are my hobgoblins. Complete with weapon swaps from the basic weapon set for the commander and from armory of death and vice for the berserker. Detail on the commander's face was a little shallow but I made do.
  4. Up next is a hideous horde of Hobgoblins, from Ganesha Games "Song of Blades and Heroes: Hammer & Forge" line. There would be a Hobgoblin Mistcaller accompanying them, but the dogs decided to hide him instead... The horde, with Sir Forscale as a guest/hostage: The Khan: An ambidextrous heroine: Some archers: The rest of the grunts: I can say these are the first miniatures in a while I've painted for a specific game night. I finished them about an hour before my players arrived...and of course they explored all the areas of Grudd Haug EXCEPT those manned by the Hobgoblins.
  5. Something's been bugging me ever since I saw the desire to have more hobgoblins in Bones 3. What is a hobgoblin's distinctive features? Often, I see them as basically normal humanoid shape and size, with some beastly facial features who aren't as exaggerated as orcs. Yet, we already have plenty of minis that fit that description in the form of half-orcs. Same basic shape, different skin colour, may have body hair. So the question to my fellow Peepers: "What should be the difference between hobgoblins and half-orcs minis?"
