  1. [MOD]Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites. We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.[/MOD] As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge last year, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges. FAQ Reaper only? - No. If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes. Are speed paints acceptable - Yes. Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes. Based or unbased? - Yes. Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes. NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy (This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases) Medium and smaller = 1 ea Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota – rounded up Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures. If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually. Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little, to start painting more. You challenge begins...now! And Our Mantra: Participants: If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, you must post in the bi-monthly thread. The objective: To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota (each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list) What qualifies: Darn near anything! Reaper/non-reaper! Any material! Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten! Exchange minis! Speed paints! Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well) Any Size! Based/unbased! Etc! (I think that covers everything) Jan/Feb: 8: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78658-janfeb-rpchallenge/ March/April: 9: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79997-marchapril-rpchallenge/ May/June: 9 July/August: 9: Sept/Oct: 8: Nov/Dec: 9: Again, I request that when tagging your posts, please use "RPChallenge" to help with locating minis from this.

    Pirates of Treasure Island

Arr... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/656177818/pirates-of-treasure-island About DEAD MAN'S CHEST Squire Olsen, Dr. Edwards, and the rest of the EOE gentlemen having asked me to help promote the whole particulars about this Treasure Island Kickstarter, from the beginning to the end, keeping nothing back but the bearings of the Casting Room, and that, only because there is still castings not yet purchased, I take up my pen in the hope of being paid by John in the year of grace 2018, and go back to the time when John first presented his plan for this Kickstarter and the stained old Salesman with the sabre cut first took up his lodging in the EOE Office. I remember him looking over his desk and whistling to himself, then breaking out in that old Casting Room Pirate Song: “Fifteen men of a dead man's chest, Yo ho ho and a Pirate Kickstarter, Drink and the devil had done for the rest, Yo ho ho and a Pirate Kickstarter” The first 4 sets include all the named Characters from the book. THE TOUGHEST OLD SALTS The 5th Set includes the Characters in the book that were not named. I have taken the liberty of calling them The Toughest Old Salts. "We got together in a few days a company of the toughest old salts imaginable--not pretty to look at, but fellows, by their faces, of the most indomitable spirit.” THE BLACK SPOT DEAL "...But what is the Black Spot Deal, John?", I asked. "It's a Rare Deal, Mate. People keep their weather eye open for such deals, then buy them on their honor. People who is smart as paint is likely to lose their dead lights if they don't see how good this deal be. A collection of the finest Pirate's Pewter. 30 Dirty Scoundrels, Monkeys, Artillery, Barrels & Treasure Chests and even Captain Flint himself" Why are you talking like this John? "Yarrr, I dunno" he replied All miniatures 28mm scale and are cast in fine Pewter. Miniatures are supplied unpainted and a few require a little assembly. Risks and challenges The Major challenge is time Most of the design work has been done eliminating the lion's share of work needed for pre-production. We are working with Fortress Figures to do the Molding and initial casting. Jeff and Ben are highly decorated Veterans of the Kickstarter industry and have over a hundred successful Kickstarters under their belts! I am very confident that we will meet all deadlines in plenty of time.
  4. Assembly Required is a feature film about the world of gaming. On Kickstarter now http://kck.st/2La7UCY - 90% FUNDED Lifelong gamers and brothers Dore and Dante Harbridge Robinson have quit their jobs as VFX artists to bring to life a comedy feature film all about the world of gaming. Assembly Required tells the story of Theo, a modern day Viking warrior who is also a passionate wargamer. His one regret is losing touch with his childhood gaming group. By chance, years later they all meet in a field. Whilst Theo has honed his skills on the tabletop and become a master with a cardboard sword, his old friends have entered the very real underworld of crime. Genuinely impressed by his sword wielding abilities they want Theo involved in their latest heist! But what does Theo want? The movie is on Kickstarter Now, ending 15th July. Packed with rewards including exclusive miniatures and a one time opportunity to join the cast and act in a massive wargaming film! The film is being supported by Weta Workshop Lord of the Rings sculptor Gary Hunt, and the Nova Open.

Bonus Challenge the Fiv Three, sir, three! Monty Python and the Holy Grail released 33 years ago in April - paint up a figure to resemble a character from the movie Good luck The game is made up and the points don't matter
  10. Hello, compatriots! I am a college student in desperate need of useful sources of information! I have taken upon the task of writing my final project in my composition class on the history of wargaming and tabletop miniatures. Painting miniatures is potentially my biggest hobby, and it seemed like an excellent topic for a paper. I need to do a 12-minute elevator pitch of my paper next Friday, and the paper itself must be 2,500 words and is due at the end of the semester (May 5th). The issue is, I'm having difficulty finding sources that I can cite. I'd go hunting for books, but I don't have a whole ton of time to wait for shipping. So, I've come to you folks. If there are any sources that you are aware of that will help me in my journey, please post them here. If there are important people I could potentially email and ask questions of, that would be cool, too. I already have some info with W. Britain beginning production of hollow lead toy soldiers and the publication of H.G. Welles' "Little Wars". I'd like to know more about when and how painting miniatures for wargames became a hobby of its own, major changes in the miniature manufacturing industry, key players, where we are today, etc.

Our annual challenge returns. February Fingerpaint! This is pretty self explanatory. Hard Mode Challenge! Pending... Good luck The game is made up and the points don't matter

    Let's present ... Sáthach

Well, After a long time of having only posted WIPs and being not able to finish something, here is another Show Off. Actually she is already a bit older, but - a finished miniature is a finished miniatures ... I painted her as some kind of a test using some new washes and trying some techniques. Came out pretty decent, I think. The only mistake I made back then was to give her a coat of mat laquer in the end. That did some frosting (a problem that ruined the arcane spellmaster later on), but opposite to the other figures I lost using laquer, I somehow managed to save most of her. Well, one of her eyes is a bit blind and on some detail shots you can see the leftovers of the frosting. But nevertheless - I managed to try out some techniques regarding the skin and the clothes and it somehow makes me proud. P.S.: Yes - yes - the frosting on the base is intentional. A friend suggested that I should try a late autumn base with first pieces of snow and ice - like in "The house of flying daggers".
  15. Hi, I'm pleased to share this awesome kickstarter from Cryptozoic, The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary. It's based off the AMC series The Walking Dead. I apologize I should have posted this sooner, just been very busy. But there are still 5 days left to join, and I think it's totally worth it! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cze/the-walking-dead-no-sanctuary The game design looks intriguing, designed by brothers Adam and Brady Sadler. The figures are exceptional, very finely detailed and sculpted by Stephan. I was really impressed how well they came out. I was asked to paint some of the masters for Cryptozoic for their booths at San Diego Comic Con and Gen Con 2016. As a huge fan of the series both on AMC and in graphic novel incarnation, this is a really exciting project! Also check it out, this is so cool! The very talented actors Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Norman Reedus (Daryl), with two of the miniatures I painted! I believe they were gifted the ones with the larger clear bases. How totally awesome of them is that? I can die happy now :) https://twitter.com/cryptozoic/status/756988054590533632 I posted some photos I took of the miniatures I painted here: http://minicreatures.blogspot.com/ Come join an awesome kckstarter!

    Dark Fable: Sons of Anubis

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-sons-of-anubis-fantasy#/ Welcome to Dark Fable Miniature's Sons of Anubis Campaign. These dog-headed warriors are descended from Anubis, the canine guide and guardian of the Egyptian underworld. The Sons of Anubis are ferocious warriors sworn to protect the royal necropolis where the tombs of long dead pharaohs and queens can be found. On rare occasions the Sons of Anubis have been summoned by powerful lords or heroes to wreak vengeance on those who would offend the gods. Heavily armed and protected by sturdy shields and armour the Sons of Anubis make a formidable force on the battlefield. The Sons of Anubis campaign is the latest expansion of Dark Fable's pseudo-historical Egyptian range. The concept and design of the miniatures are a mix of history, archaeology, fantasy fiction and Hollywood films. The core group of miniatures consists of 7 sets: 5 sets of fearsome Anubis warriors sculpted by Kev Adams. A set of Scorpion warriors sculpted by Tim Prow. As well as a two-stage female genie made by Brother Vinni. There is also a stretch goal reward figure - The Scorpion Lord - who is FREE to all Level 5 contributors and higher when the campaign goal of £2000 is reached. If that were not enough we have made a large selection of our previously released miniatures available as ADD-ONs. These high-quality 28mm miniatures are made from a lead-free pewter alloy and have an incredible amount of detail and personality. Whether you are a collector or gamer you are certain to enjoy these figures! They had me at 'female genie made by Brother Vinni'...

  21. PROJECT...Elf Quest (Ral Partha Collector Set) SUBJECT...A Las Vegas hotel executive requested that I paint this miniature set for his daughter as a Christmas gift. DATA...This is a set of figures from the " old " days...produced by Ral Partha...this is a boxed set of 8 figures (1 of 5)...released as collector sets...The figures are beautiful sculpts that range in size from (20mm to 24mm)...per request, they are mounted on varnished white oak cubes and the figures are sealed with (3 coats of high gloss varnish). They were a delight to paint...but a real pain due to the tiny size...and getting the tiny details. Paul (Catdancer)

There's too much folklore to get into here - so let's see a ROUS or two! Bonus Challenge: The Second! Richard Nixon made proclamation 4071 as National Clown week. The challenge is to make a character that's not sculpted as a clown, to have the garish appearance of one. Paint a mini of your choice using either Red or Yellow transparent cloth. (or is the term Translucent? I don't remember, I'm not done with my first pot of coffee yet.) Good luck
  25. Edit: AH this forum is so unlike what I'm use to I have no idea how to format this sorry! Double edit: All my text is in the pictures what is this forum even help im drowning in quotes and i dont know how to get rid of them So! I just started painting, like... a week ago at most? After a trip to the game store to buy spell cards for our campaigns (4, each with a different dm, of player levels levels 3,1,1,1) we noticed and decided to invest in minis. Since I'm DMing two games (one with players who are not coming back, so likely a dead game, and one thats ongoing) and I'm the crafty one, I'm the most excited, and the one doing the actual painting. I wanted to try out different tequniques on the goblins, so they all look kinda different. I did basecoats on five of them, two black, three brown, and then I painted on with no base (and found that, so far, thats my favorite meathod) I tend to favor crappily drawn maps on manila drawing paper (downside, it has no grids. But we're going to try and get a sheet of plastic and put grids on that, so it can lay ontop my maps.) One big upside is its super easy to make crap ones (that one I spent time on tho) My players derailed into a cave (that the module specifically said "was not covered in this adventure) so I had to improvise. It took me 15min to design the entire cavern dungeon (while my players were writing down spells (this was before we bought spellcards) ) How rad is that for just 15 min and no warning? I named everything random words, so they couldn't tell what was next, or if they were missing anything.
