    Demon Pegasus

Pulled from some Iron Winds Metal random bins at a con, it's a combination of a Ral Partha Nightmare and the wings of a Blue Dragon. Enjoy!

    The Aethon (Reaper 77029)

Reaper Bones #77029, "Silverhorn, Unicorn" (32mm scale plastic fantasy gaming miniature) modified with epoxy putty and mounted on a 50mm round-lipped plastic gaming base, for use as a gaming miniature for Iron Kingdoms RPG. The main modification to the mini itself is really just that I used some epoxy putty to add "shoulder flames," in the same way as I did with my "Urcaenhound. The figure came out of the blister heavily leaning to one side, and with a curved-back horn, but I just decided to work with it rather than trying to straighten it out any further with boiling water. The main body is painted in Denim Gray, with shadows of Charcoal Gray, while the fiery areas go from White to Golden Yellow to Neon Orange to Scarlet Red. The horn is painted Metallic Brown, with the ridges of the horn highlighted in Inca Gold, and the ridges on the "fire side" of the horn have dots of Neon Orange to suggest projected/reflected light. My justification for this creature was that in the Warmachine game, Feyora (a major heroine for the Protectorate of Menoth) is at one point portrayed as riding a horse with mane and tail of flames, with barding that includes some "exhaust pipes" extending from its shoulders. Perhaps those "exhaust pipes" are redirecting the magical flame that would otherwise be blasting out of the shoulders as I've portrayed here? (Although Feyora is likely immune to fire anyway, since that seems to be popular for priests of Menoth.) No such creature is covered in the official "fluff," but I decided for my own campaign to invent a creature known as the "Aethon" (named after one of the horses pulling the Sun Chariot in myth), which are horses descended from the first steeds granted by Menoth when he gave the Four Gifts of Civilization to primitive humans. My idea is that the Protectorate maintains a small herd of the creatures, but that they're so wild and rambunctious that they're rarely ever actually put to use for anything -- so Feyora's use of one as a mount is seen as a sign of special favor from Menoth. In addition, the idea is that some of these horses, through various misadventures, might have been abandoned or lost, and hence have gone wild, posing a potential threat to unwary travelers who startle them.
  3. For my Broken Gods D&D game, I've painted up all the figures for my group and am now getting around to painting up their mounts and animal companions. First off we have Bagheera, the Panther based off artwork in the spoiler. Bagheera is the animal companion of the party's monk/ranger and normally it is a standard medium-sized panther that he can use to fight along side him, but the panther can grow into this large mount when needed. Next is the Golden Lion, the mount of the party's bard, based on the artwork below: Next is the Nightmare for the party's warlock, based on the artwork below: I painted up the standard medium sized panther to use when it is needed. The monk/ranger also gained a (perhaps) temporary follower in "Jim the Brown Bear" which I also decided to paint up for this adventure and future adventures as a companion or just standard bear. All of these are painted up tabletop to tabletop+ standards. I didn't want to put too much work into them as they are just meant to be on the tabletop and not to be put into any contests. Larger panther and the lion are the lioness and lion from Bones 3. The smaller panther and the brown bear are bones animal companions. The Nightmare is from one of Tre's kickstarters. It has a barbarian that goes on the saddles, which of course I omitted here and I'll either toss the barbarian in the BOGW or put him in the melt bin at ReaperCon now that he's not really needed and I covered the hole in the saddle where he would normally attach. There's one missing mount, a silver and black fox that I may also paint up for the 4th member of the group. She paints minis too, so I'm thinking I'll give her a wolf figure that looks very foxlike to have her do it herself especially since I have so many other projects I need to finish up on this month. Anyhow, C&C are welcomed and appreciated! EDIT!! Adding more pics of the figures in more close-up shots for each one.

    03124: Storm Steed

I painted this one up as a Nightmare from Magic the Gathering.. Well..somewhat. Part of my Undead collection, substitute for a Fell Bat. These are older pics, don't show the shadows that well...
  5. Corporea

    Nightmare

I created this monster from a mix of bones (eyebeast, mockingbeast, harpy, nightspectre, ape demon, bed,) hands from the kingdom death phoenix, sculpey, green stuff and plasticard. I have a WIP here. This was a great deal of fun to sculpt and involved a lot of scary background music to get me in the mood. As a kid, I had an overactive imagination, so I can completely empathize with the kid under the blankets. I even tried to fool the monster under my bed once by dropping a pillow off the back of the bed while I made a flying leap for the lightswitch by the door! Enjoy!! C&C always welcome, and I'm happy to answer any questions. I'll be bringing this fellow with me to Reapercon, so feel free to come pick him up and look closer! Also, if there's anything that doesn't look right, let me know- I still have time to fiddle with it.
  6. First, a quick story. While falling asleep last night, I tried to come up with a plan for the Open category at Reapercon. The theme is horror, so I needed something suitable. What's scary? Hmmmn. Something scary. I liked Kuro's tentacle project. Something with tentacles? Hmmmn. Scary... what are kids afraid of... I sat bolt upright in bed. A Nightmare! It's perfect! I can mutilate a bunch of Bones I'll never get around to painting and make all the rest from greenstuff and sculpey. I can use Talespinner's awesome Bones bed and make a little kid huddling under a blanket. I am a bad Corporea. I started with the eyebeast and squashed some sculpey around it. the hands there are from the KD phoenix. They're the scariest hands I own and my game came with an extra phoenix. Perfect! I also stole the wings from the harpy, the arms from the harpy and ape demon and plan to stick on the mockingbeast. Plan is lots of eyes, tentacles, claws and teeth. Yup. Bad, bad Corporea. in progress. See my little nightlight off to the right? I'll be the only place where the Nightmare can't be. I'll have painted tentacle scuttling away from it. I like the way the hands hover over the poor kiddie. I realized after taking this I was using my Halloween pencil to plot. that's the spirit! more sculpting and I added in some ghostly wall. Not my best foray into photography and I managed to drop the whole mess onto the base after this, but I fixed it. Plus it was only about an hour of sculpting, so totally fixable. I'll be adding a bunch more details. The spider/etc on the base will be done using greenstuff. I'll make some more tentacles curling onto the bed and posts, but again, avoiding the light. tried to get a better pic: I'll be alternating this project with my diorama this weekend, but for now, must take a dinner break. I ate donuts last night so salad today. Sigh. Salad. Now that's a scary thought. More soon!!

    Storm Steed - 03124

Been away for a while, finding less time to paint or even look as of late but was able to finish this one. Always loved the Nightmare creature and had to try and paint it up in that respect.
