    89012: Lem, Iconic Bard

89012: Lem, Iconic Bard sculpted by Derek Schubert. This guy was supposed to be a speed paint, but I got too interested in putting diamond patterns on his clothes.
  2. Yet another new thread! (At some point I really should think about starting a blog, or whatever the cool kids do these days, instead of cluttering up the forum with my stuff.) While it's possibly a banning offence, I've gotta admit I don't particularly care for Sophie or her various minis, but this one really leapt out at me. I may have made things extra hard for myself by fully assembling everything, but she has little, dainty feet so I was never going to be able to pin her to a cork. Started with her skin (1:1 Rosy Skin/Beastly Brown > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Rosy Skin/Beastly Brown > 1:1:1 Rosy Skin/Light Skin/Beastly Brown), I was trying to give her a tan, but I don't think it's as simple as adding brown to the skin colour, however the colour I did end up with is rather nice. It's hard to see, but she also has (slightly googly) eyes, lip and eye makeup (1:1:1:2 Rosy Skin/Light Skin/Beastly Brown/Hexed Lichen) and eyebrows (Scarlett Red), I also basecoated her hair while I had the Scarlett Red out.

    Dreadmere Begins...

As these were the minis that got me collecting Reaper stuff again, I thought they deserved some special attention:- From left to right you've got 03787: The Crimson Herald (although mine probably won't be crimson), 03784: D'Vandra Lukesia (yes, I did attach her arm wrong ), 03786: Andowyn Thrushmoor and 03785: Jakob Knochengard. I had some large resin Bayou bases that I thought they'd look good on, though Jakob is kinda dwarfed by his. The Heralds skin is 1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Dead Flesh > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Dead Flesh > 1:1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Dead Flesh/Light Flesh. Unfortunately, I forgot his exposed ribs until I'd finished for the day, so they're still at the Flesh Wash stage. D'Vandras skin is 1:1 Flat Flesh/Light Flesh > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Flat Flesh/Light Flesh > 1:1:1 Flat Flesh/Light Flesh/Offwhite. She also got Scarlett Red lips. You can see better where I've attached her arm wrong. For some reason I thought her hand was behind her back (in fact, I initially thought both hands held her shovel behind her back, and spend quite a while trying to get them all lined up), and like a fool didn't check her official piccys first. Andowyns skin is 1:1 Rosy Flesh/Flat Flesh > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Rosy Flesh/Flat Flesh > 1:1:1 Rosy Flesh/Flat Flesh/Light Flesh. She also got Old West Rose lips. Jakobs skin is 1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Wolf Grey > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Wolf Grey > 1:1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Wolf Grey/Light Flesh. The severed head uses the same skin recipe as the Herald. Next up, hair! (For those that have it.)

    14465: Durin Dwarf Pathfinder Sgt

14465: Durin Dwarf Pathfinder Sgt sculpted by Tom Mason. I never would have tried this blue and bronze colour scheme of my own choice, but one of the players in my D&D game requested it, and now I like it.

    01416: Sophie in Cat Costume

I finished up this lovely lady last night. She was wonderfully sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I really enjoyed the details on her and she was a lot of fun to paint. I always mean to paint a Halloween figure before Halloween but am usually too busy to actually manage it. I got this figure while at Reapercon though and decided it was meant to be, so I put aside a couple of other things to make time for her. I had a lot of technical issues with her due to my clumsiness - I dropped her THREE times which resulted in extensive repair work and having to reattach her to the pumpkin each time. There’s no indentation or any other indication for how she’s meant to be attached to the pumpkin and assembly is not my strong suit so I struggled a bit with that part. The way I have her attached leaves her foot hanging past the base by a good bit so I’ll need to build the base up on a little bit of cork, but she looked the most correct to me this way. (She is currently still sitting on top of foam tape and the craft paint bottle that I used as a holder, I just painted them black for pictures.) I was asked over on facebook how I painted the wings, so I’ll copy that info over here as well: I basecoated with MSP Black Indigo. (That’s one of this year’s Reapercon swag bag paints. I think Nightmare Black would probably be fine to use in its place.) Then I layered up using paints from Nocturna’s Imperial Purple Set. They’re Vallejo paints made for Nocturna and I highly recommend both that set and the Crimson Red set. Both sets come with little painting guides and the purple one walks you through how to do both cold purples and warm purples. I went in the warm purple direction starting from the darkest colours and layering up to the lightest. So Imperial Purple > Purple Hex > Amethyst > Witch Purple > Lipstick. Then I glazed over everything with MSP Gothic Crimson which was also a LE Reapercon paint, I think from the 2016 swag bag. (I can’t think of a replacement for that off of the top of my head but it’s a wine-maroon colour.) Then in the areas that I wanted to darken, like the transitions going back into the shadows and the backs of the wings, I glazed with the Black Indigo.
  6. From ReaperCon swag. I'm still working on my NMM skill.

    Khanjira - The World Breaker

I know it's not 'actually' a Tarrasque, but it's certainly a pretty good stand in, so that's how I painted it. This is the biggest model I have every painted, and I think it turned out pretty well. Enjoy, I know my D&D player won't...Muhaha!

    My Undead Army (so far)

Right, I hemmed and hawed over the best way to show these off, and sadly, ultimately decided on linking to an external album, rather than uploading 70 some odd photos to Reaper's servers. I've shown off several of these minis/units before over time, but I just got a new phone with a way nicer camera and I thought it would be nice to get the whole thing documented. I'm nowhere near done, I have always enjoyed painting the Undead and will likely continue to add to it forever, but here it is in it's current state. It's based for Kings of War, includes tons of Reaper, Mantic, GW, and a few other manufacturer's in small quantities as well. Enough talk, here's the album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CrTmoTDLmJte6agt9 And here's a sample excerpt: It's about 5 years +/- in the making but includes some minis from my previous war gaming days as well, I think all were repainted though. EDIT: Apologies, some of the models are dustier than I realized. Next time I get shots I'll dust first. There's even a small cobweb on one, but that kinda looks awesome. The dust not so much. Thanks for looking!

    30014: The Grudge

Here are the pictures of the Grudge all finished. While there were times that I hated how things looked, in the end I am extremely happy with how he turned out. WIP: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/81903-the-grudge-30014/

    77592: Frost Giant Queen WIP

Hey there! This is my first post-ReaperCon mini, and I'm using her to practice the various techniques that I learned in various classes. I'll be posting stages along the way, and feedback is very much appreciated! For starters, I've gotten most of the base coats down, and the first thing I practiced was two brush blending on her orange cloak. My plan is to do a bit of freehand along the trim in the light orange of the front skirt, and then use the same trim along the skirt in the dark orange of the cloak. It makes sense in my head, anyway! The chest armor is done with the new Dungeon Dwellers color "Kobold Scale", and I love it. It's got a deep maroon/brown thing going on. Thanks for looking!

Never did get round to finishing his base. Was needed for a campaign.

    Sticky Meet-up Spots

I thinking of starting a Warlord face book group, I'm not sure if this would be a good ideal, what do you any of you think about it?
  14. Since the piece does contain some nudity, I'm only showing back/side views here to respect the forum rules. More angles are available at my website, https://www.lightminiatures.com/come-back-to-me-my-love/. I also have a bit of a backstory and a LOT of work-in-progress photos of both the painting and some of the sculpting work I did for the resurrection effect and other parts of the diorama. It's definitely worth checking out. :) For anyone who was at ReaperCon and didn't get a chance to check out the booklet (I know how cons can be), the blog post is basically the same thing. The main figure is 03784: D’Vandra Lukesia by Bobby Jackson. The resurrection effect is constructed using 03639: Bella, Succubus by Patrick Keith, and Secret Weapon’s skeleton kit. Everything else is scratchbuilt out of putty, plastic card, parchment paper, cork tile, and wire, apart from two resin vases I got from somewhere I can't remember. If you have any comments, questions, or constructive criticism, that is always welcome!

    The Grudge (30014)

Started this one awhile ago and he was a participant in another WIP thread of mine. I am working on him again so I decided to give him his own thread. The skin is mostly done, but the ears may need some more work. I am trying a strong, warm light from his right which is why that side is brighter and the shadows on the left portion of his face are starker. The full effect will probably be more obvious one I finish some other surfaces like his hair. Up next is finishing his eyes and leather, both are roughed in at this point.
  16. Second Finished mini. Happy with the eyes on this one. Comes with wings, but made it without them. Will post more when I get the base done

    Wyrmgear the Clockwork Dragon

Hey folks! I finished up Wyrmgear this week for a client. Took me about 5-6 hours of work, most of it on the brass/bronze and the wings. I went with a stippling effect on the wings to make them look like canvas. I used GW Karak Stone as the base coat with a Reikland Flesh wash. Then a glaze of Ushabti Bone and a wash of Agrax Earthshade. I then started the stippling with some more of the bone, then Ivory White, Oyster White, and Skull White, and then Pure White. The metals are Ceramcoat Bronze and Pewter with several washes of Flesh, Earthshade, Nuln Oil, and highlighted with Bronze, Burnished gold, and sliver (for the brass/bronze) and Gunbolt up to Mithril Silver for the steel. The shields are painted using GW Mordian Blue, RMSP Sky Blue and over brushed with Silver. The design on the shields was taken from a design I saw on an angel statue in our local hardware store Christmas display. I used a Micron 01 Archival Pen to draw it on. Thanks for looking!

    Frost giant

Guardian of the Twin Pass, bad guy for my campaign...still needs a touch-up or two, but looks good on the table
  19. Haven't had a ton of time to paint this summer but I've managed to get a few things done. I've also been working on my basing. I plan on going back and adding some OSL to Damien but saving that for another day. The Familiar is from GW, cira 1994 and was a fun little guy to paint. C&C welcome and encouraged.

    03864: Belthual, Elf Chronicle

I've been fiddling with this character for months and finally finished him this weekend. I'm using him as my player character in a Tomb of Annihilation campaign - he is Icewind Josen, half-elf rogue and relic hunter. The whip was fun, but it makes him hard to fit into carrying cases for transport between gaming sessions!

Lidless Eye Hobbies: Bones 3 Ogre Tribe

A tribe of Ogres from Reaper Miniatures. I was originally just going to get the Matriarch, having previously traded away the other Ogres from the Kickstarter core set, thinking I had enough from my former Ogre Kingdoms army for Warhammer. Seeing them all together in person changed my mind! Sadly, my not-so-local shop was out of the Smasher. I'll have to add him in later! The Matriarch. I'm tempted to get another and convert her to look more like a fighter. I was tempted to slice down the Goblin servant's ears and paint him as a baby Ogre on a leash. The Chieftain. I love his door-shield! The Clubber (not to be confused with the Ogre Raver) The Guard.

    Torture Implements

I decided to paint a bunch of things to fill up any torture chambers I would need to create in my builds. The table with the implements is not from Reaper and is in metal. I do not remember who it is from. :) The Bones painted up a bunch quicker though! :)

    77630: Sacrificial Altar

This is my version of the Bones 77630: Sacrificial Altar I already have a bunch of evil looking altars, so I went instead for an arcane look. That said it was a speed paint.
