    Grenadier dragon lords platinum

To continue the thought I moved on to another that has been haunting me from my shelf of shame; the platinum dragon from the Grenadier dragon lords series I have to apologize for the phone pics but I had to rush and my wife's business has sort of taken over the spot I keep my light box

    Grenadier dragon lords gold dragon

Let's start the season by cleaning out my shelf of shame and accomplish something I've been meaning to do for the last decade or so.... One of my first big miniature accomplishments I completed as a teenager was the complete painting of the first dragon lords circle by Grenadier the year it came out (in case any of you were wondering how old in actually was) Well I found the set when I was going through my parents things and I wanted to try and do it better with my new skills and paints... it took about 3 years it accumulate a second set and then the project got delayed after I completed the black, green, red and white. Mettalics can be difficult... but no more. This year I will finish the council! So with some renewed interest I took my gold of the shelf and went after it over the holidays, doing the upper scales in Scale 75 metallics and the belly scales using the reaper NMM paint set.
  3. Hey there! I decided to hop back on the RPChallenge wagon! These guys have been languishing on my desk, just in need of some touch-ups and basing. So I knocked those out, and I'm calling them done. They'll be fun to use as a marker or something. I did a WIP on my blog, feel free to go check it out! I update there much more frequently than I post here. Hope y'all enjoy them! C&c is always welcome!
  4. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84371-2019-rpchallenge-questionsannouncements/ All the information you need should be here. As usual, the new format holds a "hard mode" challenge! January and February 2019 Your challenge is: 8! Bonus Challenge: The First! Finished - not perfect! Paint 4 minis from your 'shelf of shame." A lot of our minis tend to end up there for a myraid of reasons - but a common one is 'can't get it to look just right" Don't get hung up on perfection - most models can be re-purchased again later Bonus Challenge: The Second! Bringing back a favorite for whatever absurd reason - Fingerpaint February! Paint a non-object/non-terrain miniature using only your own fingers. The exception is that priming and sealing may be done with a brush/airbrush/can/etc Hard Mode Challenge! Since most of us are in the winter season, and appropriately chilly, take a nod to the Greyhawk setting and the Land of Black Ice. A region of the world covered in black-blue ice. This inhospitable land is often haunted by arctic terrors, black-skinned trolls, and blue-furred bugbears among others. Your challenge is to paint an arctic terror (bonus points if it's a black-skinned troll or blue-furred bugbear) based on this 'sheet of black-blue ice.' Crackle medium may be very helpful for this. The more inhospitable, dark and dreary, the better! As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!
  5. Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites. We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines. As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge again, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges. FAQ Reaper only? - No. If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes. Are speed paints acceptable - Yes. Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes. Based or unbased? - Yes. Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes. NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy (This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases) Medium and smaller = 1 ea Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota rounded up Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures. If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. (not yet updated for the CAV II figures) If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually. Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little or not as much as one would like, to start painting more. You challenge begins...now! And Our Mantra: Participants: If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, post in the bi-monthly thread and include the tag RPChallenge The objective: To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota (each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list) What qualifies: Darn near anything! Reaper/non-reaper! Any material! Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten! Exchange minis! Speed paints! Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well) Any Size! Based/unbased! Etc! (I think that covers everything) Jan/Feb: 8: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84372-january-february-rpchallenge/ March/April: 9 May/June: 9 July/August: 9: Sept/Oct: 8: Nov/Dec: 9: Again, I request that when tagging your posts, please use "RPChallenge" to help with locating minis from this.

    Maledrakh's Nighvault: Zarbag's Gitz

The Night Goblins Moonclan Grotz venture forth from their fungus-infested caves to do battle in the Nightvault. Being so small and weedy, they compensate by being many. There are nine of them, one more than the eight starter positions on the game board. So yeah, I went with the fungal theme... pic heavy, click if you dare!

    Maledrakh's 77464 Werewolf

Reaper Bones 77464: Werewolf from the third Bones kickstarter. Currently available from the reaperminis.com webstore. Sculpted by James Van Schaik. I made a bespoke 3Dprinted 40mm round base for it.

    Maledrakh's 77407: Death Dog

Reaper Bones 77407: Death Dog from the third Bones kickstarter. Currently available from the reaperminis.com webstore. Sculpted by Julie Guthrie. I made a bespoke 3Dprinted 45x30mm base for it. I went for a black dog with red demonic eyes for this.

    77422 War Dogs Speed Paints

Painted these up for my next RPG session because I decided my city guards needed some help tracking down the PCs as they flee through the sewers and undercity.

    Maledrakh's 77116 Colossal Skeleton

This one has been standing around, based in one form or another since the Bones 1 kickstarter back in 2013 or whenever it actually delivered. One of the few KS1 Undead Bones I had not painted yet. I had originally based it on a square movement tray thinking to make it as some sort of skeleton unit for Kings of War, but for some reason that no longer appealed to me when I dusted it off this time. It had actual cobwebs on. I finally settled on a bespoke 125mm by 90mm oval 3D printed base, and slapped some paint on it to get it done. lots of pics below

    Maledrakh's Kobolds 77010 & 77350

A whole year and almost no Bones painted. How did that happen? There are still 20 Bones left to paint and the fourth kickstarter is still on track for delivery around next Easter! I have had these kobolds ready to paint since I received the first Bones several years ago. They were part of the Vampire base pledge box, in a subset called "Dungeon Attack" with some giant rats and goblins. I painted the rats ages ago and the goblins are...lets call it awaiting paint. Four sets of three Kobolds, I did each set in a different colour. Funny how I remember Kobolds as doglike small humanoids from my AD&D days, but it seems they are reptilian dragonlike small humanoids now? What happened there? Seeing as they are so small, I based them on bespoke 3D-printed 20mm lipped rounds. And from the Bones II kickstarter, the "matching" Kobold Leaders: ...that are much larger than the others: so I based these on bespoke 3D-printed 25mm lipped rounds to fit the larger minis. The Kobold fighter champion had a soft noodle weapon haft that no amount of hot water would straighten out, so I cut it off and replaced it with a part of a paperclip.

    Maledrakh's Mudgullet the Froghemoth

I think this might be the last post of the year. From the Bones 3 kickstarter: An excellent stand-in for a Great Unclean One or Daemon Prince of Nurgle; a not-Froghemoth, that has now been renamed "77581 Mudgullet" and is slated for release by Reaper this January. Picture heavy! Click if you dare!
  13. Does anybody recognize this mini? I got this mini from a forum trade or lot purchase some time ago. I do not know who made it or any details about it. It is made in white metal, came in two parts with body and the head and came with an unmarked tab to go in a slottabase. I tried using my Google-Fu, but all I found was a couple posts stating this is a Chainmail miniature, from the short-lived Wizards of the Coast miniatures line from the turn of the century. However, I do not think it is a Chainmail mini, as I do not remember seeing such a mini in that line at that time, it does not appear on any Chainmail listings and does not have any markings on the tab like Chainmail minis have. Also, I think they were a bit more finely detailed in general. I put it on a 30mm base

    77258: Blood Demon

Ok, I know that the figure is called 'Blood Demon' but It reminds me of the Bone Devil (Osyluth for all you real old timers out there) from a certain well known role playing game. So, that's how I painted it. Relatively quick tabletop painting, I think I spent about 2-3 hours including basing on this figure.
  15. Chaoswolf

    Kitbash village militia

I made these three guys out of my bits box. The bodies and arms are Wargames Factory Vikings, the heads and weapons are from various other sources. The Wargames Factory bits have rather shallow detail, so I didn't spend too much time painting them. I figure they'll make good village militia and/or bandits. Background figures whose job is to take up space and get killed by either the heroes or the orcs.
  16. Chaoswolf

    Ral Partha/Citadel dwarf fighter

If my memory is working properly, I think this guy came out a blister pack marked Ral Partha Imports, so he may have originally been a citadel sculpt. In any case, he's older than at least some of you reading this. His paint got pretty badly dinged up in a move, so i decided to fix him up. Which led to a complete repaint. I hope you like him.
  17. Chaoswolf

    77138: Treasure Pile & Candleabra

Well, just the treasure right now; I'll get around to the candelabra sooner or later. I'm not entirely sold on my distribution of wealth; I think next time I'll paint it all gold and try to pick out coins in other colors instead of starting with silver.
  18. Chaoswolf

    77434 Yeti Chieftan

I decided to paint this fella for Ladystorm's contest a couple months ago, and then promptly forgot about him until this past Saturday. So here's my semi-rushed, totally tabletop but still fun to paint Yeti chief. I was hoping to achieve that polar bear not-quite-white-but-sorta-yellowish-white look for him. I think it worked out alright, but I have an idea to try to improve upon it in the future.
  19. This is an old metal Cthonian aka Carnivorous Worm, from the Call of Cthulhu line made by RAFM co. It was painted in less than an hour, entirely by drybrushing up from a black undercoat. No washes or layering used. The base is bespoke 3D printed and measures 85x60mm. I believe this miniature still is available from RAFM.

    77022 Michelle, Female Human Ranger

Another figure I primed and base coated some time ago that I decided to finally finish painting during the Thanksgiving paint binge.I tried to go for a subtle camouflage effect on her cloak by wet blending several different greens on it. She's done for tabletop, like most of what I paint. Please let me know what you think.
  21. Chaoswolf

    77169 Flesh Golem

I started this guy last winter sometime so I figured it was time to finish him up. I used the Thanksgiving paint binge to accomplish this. I wanted to imply that he was made from slightly fresher parts, so I used several different flesh tones on him, then washed/drybrushed/weathered him to look a little grungy/rotten. Painted for tabletop; let me know what you think.
  22. Chaoswolf

    Evil high priest

This is a figure from (I believe) a C'thulu boardgame. A local book store/game store was having a mini painting event this past Halloween, and this is the figure. The first picture is what I accomplished in 2 hours at the store, while the last 2 are after spending another 30 minutes or so doing some touch ups at home. Speed paint table top figure, i hope you like it.
  23. Chaoswolf

    02197 Blood Imps

This little guy is one of a set of three figures; I found him on the melt table at Reapercon and snagged him. I figured I could use him in Frostgrave, or as a familiar to some evil baddie in a RPG. Basic tabletop painting, I hope you like it.
  24. Chaoswolf

    77167 Ingrid, Female Gnome

I painted Ingrid over during the paint binge weekend this past Thanksgiving. She was sitting in a drawer primed and base coated for at least a few months, so I pulled her out and finished her up. I need to get more practice doing gems; that's supposed to be a ruby in her hand, not a freshly removed heart. Although I suppose it could be.... Please let me know what you think.
  25. As a fan of Warhammer 40k since it was called Rogue Trader, I have found the new direction of the post-Kirby era GW to be uplifting and with the release of many interesting minis I have begun spending money on them again. Kill Team: Rogue Trader is one such set I have bought recently. The Gellerpox Infected are the "bad guys" of the set. Formerly crewmembers and shipboard vermin that have been granted some of Grandfather Nurgles gifts (you know, the ones that keep on giving!) and have ...evolved. lots more pics beneath, but you have to want to see them...
