  1. Darth Sana She stared at her adversary with cool and calm calculation, the Jedi was nervous... she saw the fear in his eyes, yes... GOOOOOOD.... fear would cause him to make mistakes.. she'd cut him down with her force-imbued katana and notch another Jedi scum on her belt... She snarled at him, "Come and die, you fight the Sith Mistress!" ---------------------------------------------------- Manufacturer: White Wolf Miniatures 3 parts: Head, body, Sword. Scale: 70mm high Sculptor: Juan Puerta Casting: Sago This was a labor of love and fun for me, I decided as soon as I saw this beautiful bust that I was going to paint her up as 'evil' and the paint scheme that called to me was to paint her up to look like Darth Maul, I added the horns with copper wire and then sculpted them on with ProCreate. Towards the end of the project, I was trying to decide how to display her and it came to me that I wanted to make her part of a story, give her a bit more of the Star Wars tie-in with a completely scratch-built Tie Fighter. The title placards on the sides were designed by my good friend @Thrym and I printed them off on cardstock and glued them onto the plasticard sides of the tie fighter. The scabbard is my attempt at a sort of force rune, it is Kanji which translates into "Sith Mistress." WIP can be found here: Without further ado, I present (Darth) Sana from White Wolf Miniatures! Thanks for looking (and following along), C&C are welcomed and greatly appreciated!
  2. My good friends over at White Wolf Miniatures sent me Sana as a gift, she's an amazingly clean resin sculpt of a female samurai. As soon as I saw her I knew how I wanted to paint her up. I'm going with a Darth Maul color scheme with red and black and I'll freehand the sith symbol somewhere on her armor. I'll elicit your comments and critiques as I paint her up. Right now I have her washed, prepped, and ready to get primed. As you can see she's nearly 80mm tall.
  3. Hi, I have finished two warbands for test of honour! Finally I can play more advanced scenarios.
  4. Hello guys and gals! So just got these two photographed this afternoon, two Children of the Night old school Samurais, from two different packages. One is a Female Samurai, out of an old Samurai Player Characters package or something similar, and the other one is a dwarf samurai from a Dwarf Player character set, beautifully and petitely sculpted by Dennis Mize. I painted them both at the same time in an attempt to use the same color schemes, hence saving a tad bit of time. I'm pretty satisfied how they came out, even though I have doubts about the female samurai's eyes. These are though very true 25 mm figures, really small, so I don't think I want to keep messing with them, as don't want to make matters worse. Here's the Female Samurai: And here is the Dwarf Samurai: Here they are together: and this is kind of fun, I actually painted the female samurai as per the records I found, in July of 2007, so literally a decade ago, and here is that comparison: In which also the eyes were a bit obnoxious to work with, but in my old paint job, they ended up being pretty large. The older version way back then would have been painted with craft paints and brushes I would have gotten from Michaels. So anyways, hope you enjoy!
  5. This is my work so far on Goemon from the Ninja All Stars line of Sodapop miniatures. He is mostly done, but will need basing and to be sealed.
  6. 03524 Masaki, Ronin Every time I look at this miniature the line "They call me Jack..." comes in my head. I painted him to medium tabletop but his skin, that was fun. That was something I succeeded with at above tabletop, so I don't know where to put him quality-wise. The white I figured, given everything that happens during that show, would not be clean and crisp as it shows up every time on the show, so I made it a bit more dingy. I'm happy with it even if it's not super-crisp. I could probably throw another highlight on top for the white, but I really feel that he looks better this way. I threw a few gears on the ground to indicate he just blew up one of Aku's monsters, and his sword is slightly less bright because of that. C&C always welcome :)
  7. Since I posted some of my work where I converted certain reaper miniatures into kitsune a while ago, I figured I would post one of the newer kitsune that I've painted recently. I got this miniature from "Everyman Gaming", they have been getting a site called imagine3dminiatures.com to 3d print miniatures for them. This miniature was a bit difficult to paint because I had to clean off a lot of plastic nubs that were leftover from the 3d printing process. I kept finding more even after I primed the miniature. I also had to cut the mini off of its 30mm base and glue it to one of reaper's 1 inch scale bases. However, in the end the mini came out very well! Well, some parts came out a bit messy, like the gold on the shield, and the black wash. Luckily, in real life people won't be able to see the messy black wash that I put on the mini, lol. Painting this mini was a lot of fun, so I'm planning to paint Everyman's nine tailed kitsune miniature soon :D
  8. My samurai Tengu Warrior. I could not figure out what was sculpted on his shoulder armor. My wife and I looked under a magnifying glass and decided "Cartoon Troll With Big Nose" and " Exploding Chicken Head On Fire" They are both different looking and neither is pictured in Reapers stock photos. Tough paint, because I could not find any painted examples online for reference. The static grass I ordered really helped break up all those browns.
  9. I sent off these Samurai for Chibi Paint Swap #07. The picture was taken by my 'target' who obviously has better photo equipment than I do.
  10. This is the start of my three samurai project for Chibi Paint Swap #07. I wanted to experiment with a largely monochrome technique. This guy is mostly the yellow you can see in his mask with different mixes of black and white for most of the rest of the model. The exceptions are the brown of the wood and the purple for some ghostly effects and washes and for accent colors. It has at least been fun to play with. Still a WIP. Helpful critiques are welcome.
  11. Another mini painted for my friend's Rising Sun Campaign. A totally tubular surfer dude, just missing his board.
  12. This and another Bushido mini on deck for a friend. He had a bit of space on his cloak and I wanted to experiment with some simple freehand. For some reason I felt/saw wind when I looked at him and tried to paint something that represented that. Took me a long time to paint due to being in several pieces. Makes me appreciate minis that are all one piece even more. Had fun with a shot with the dragon hatchlings I just painted. :) I also got a fancy new camera for my birthday. A bit of a learning curve, but I like the new pics. Finally happy with the results.
  13. I know I'm terribly late getting this on here, but here's the completed work of my Griffon Samurai! I entered 2 pieces in the Painters category at ReaperCon and this is the one they decided to judge. I couldn't believe my ears when they called my name for a gold medal!! At first I was certain that I missed my name for the bronze or silver categories! I owe it all to the wonderful tutelage of my husband!! He taught me what he knew and gave me the encouragement and motivation to keep going when I wanted to give up! I am truly blessed!! Whelp, as some have already said, it's all down hill from here! I'm already thinking of ideas for my next piece (possibly a diarama). Thanks again to everyone who has given constructive criticism and encouragement since I joined this forum!! You all are the best!!!
  14. A friend and I alternate DMing every other weekend. (Two different games.) He has a recurring NPC named Wan Pau who has been described as a ratkin who is a wise, old, mysterious man (ratman) who is the head of a powerful Cathayan family. (Cathay is basically China.) I painted up this little mouseling as Wan Pau. He is too cute to be a ratkin but, oh well! I wanted him to look like he is getting a little white around the muzzle and some salt and pepper streaks in his hair. His tail wasn't well formed and actually I didn't know it was there until I painted base and you could barely see an outline where it should be. I told my friend I could fix it but he liked it without. He said Wan Pau was too dignified to have his tail waving out in the open for everyone to see! Ha! I tried a little freehand on the back of his robe. It didn't turn exactly as I had hoped but I also didn't think it was too bad! I am the most proud of his cute little face!
  15. Painted this for a friend. I was really impressed with the model, hadn't painted any ninja/samurai characters ever and could not wait to start painting it. I really like the Sai weapons holstered to his legs. From a game I had never heard of called Bushido. -Hope you enjoy :)
  16. I'm in the early stages of what promises to be a very long project. This is a rather large 90mm scale samurai archer from Pegaso Models. I've been wanting to do a samurai for a while, the colors and patterns make for some really neat figures. I'm planning for this to be a competition piece, so I'm intending to go all out on the design work. There are a lot of layered pieces for this figure, so he's going to be painted and assembled in a number of stages. I began with the face. As a larger scale figure, there's a lot more room to do detail and it's well worth spending the extra time. I probably put in 10-12 hours in to just the face so far. I had to switch up my skin mix a bit, I began with Reaper's Volcano Brown with a touch of Olive Skin Shadow and Burgundy Wine for the shadows, then into Olive Skin Shadow, Olive Skin, Olive Skin Highlight, and finally a bit of Linen White. On top of that I did some glazes with red, purple, and blue to add more color variation and life to the face. Then I did a bit of the cloth. The orange is Burgundy Wine, Bronzed Skin Shadow, Burnt Orange, and Linen White. I haven't done much orange in the past, but I'm happy with that mix. I will be going back over that part of the figure to add some pattern/design... but I haven't decided what I want to do yet. All I know is that the orange will be the background color. And, if you're curious, here's a close up of the other side of the face. As i said, this should be a long project. I'm hopeful I can get it done by the end of the year... but we'll see. I really want to bring it to Adepticon next year. There should be enough time for that if I don't get too side tracked along the way.
  17. Needed a Christmas present for my sister, so I whipped up a few Bones mouslings for her. Pretty quick job, just a few hours for the lot of them.
  18. Two Reapers in succession !! Who would have thought ! This was a painting, and a basing challenge for me. I tend to attempt both in the same mini. A wonderful mini (extremely amusing) to paint, and a challenge to base. I had a blasts doing him. I so wanted to share what I was thinking while doing this, if nothing elsel just the deep laughing while doing it. You comments and criticism are always welcome and desired. Here's Yoshi, the mousling Samurai.
  19. Pulled over from my sculpting thread. Would be in Show Off, except there are just those tiny things which still bug me. That slight grainy texture on the face is getting really annoying, and I'm not really sure how to smooth it or fix it. Need to shadow the cape more I think. Sword is not as bright as I would like, but short of going out and buying a bottle of florescent paint for this alone, I think it's fine. Huh. Reaper Alien Flesh MSP is the exact same color as ProCreate. The patterning on the concept art... hahaha I don't think i can do much more than try and suggest it like what I've done a little bit. I already have trouble drawing it in with my micron pen.
  20. Does anybody know if Dark Moto models were ever made for L5R? In particular, I'm wondering about cavalry. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Just began painting minis since Gen Con. Really proud of this one and would appreciate some constructive feedback so I can improve. Thanks!
