    77469 Brand Oathblood WIP

Ok I don't do that many WIPs but I thought I'd try on this one. This is so far a base coat and 6 layers of shading. I like to use glazes so the build up is very gradual and I have to remember that everytime I start a mini lol. I will put down about 10 more layers going down all the way to a deep purple. This is at the pure tanned skin shadow phase. It will be slow going due to work but I will keep up with it. Comments and criticism welcome and before it gets mentioned I removed no mold lines this is more of a proof of concept to see if I can finish a wip post and how my skin painting is coming along. Thanks!

    07001, Rictus the Undying

Here's 07001, Rictus the Undying from Reaper's Dungeon Dwellers Special Edition Figures sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I'm curently running "The Vanishing Blackguard" adventure so get ready to see a load of painted models in the next couple of weeks. Sir Rictur is the main evil character in "The Vanishing Blackguard" adventure for 4-6 characters of levels 3-5 by Joseph C. Wolf. Check out the free Vanishing Blackguard.pdf adventure on Reaper's website.

    Torg, Orc Stalker 14602

The weather is basically perfect, so I have been outside painting and writing D&D adventures while enjoying the sunshine! I got this bad dude finished a little bit ago and I am pretty proud of how he turned out. I will probably go back and touch a few things up later on, but right now I would appreciate any critiques and advice. Thanks in advance!
  5. Thread title pretty much sums it up. This is Callus the Renegade from Black Orc’s Hundred Kingdoms, sculpted by Jason Wiebe: There is is a lot going on here, from chain, scale, and plate to all the spangly bits and Things on Belts. Tried to add some variety of color where possible. Not sure what actual colors were worn by Roman soldiers, but red is popular among cosplayers according to Google. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t purple at least. Turns out Dark Elf Skin is a pretty good approximation of actual gorilla flesh. It also seems that brown is not a popular color for actual gorilla fur, but whatever. I was unsure just what that thing in his left hand is, so I imagined it as some sort of monkey-headed scepter, and painted it up in Dragon Copper and Antique Gold. Mostly as an excuse to try out some GW verdigris. I probably miffed the placement, but it’s a neat effect. Very much a “nasty old penny” look. Did I mention this guy is big? Here he is alongside Miss Forscale the Strumpet: Comments and critiques appreciated!
  6. (Note: I actually started these a while back, though they are not done yet. This is a bit less of a WIP thread than a how-I-got-here-so-far thread, which I will update as I get my old pictures organized. Questions and comments and critiques are, as always, welcome.) Last summer Bad Squiddo Games hosted a brief Kickstarter, "My Last Sunrise," of an assortment of Gothic horror minis centered around vampires. These two stood out to me as a little beyond the Hammer horror ethos of most of the other figures. While I was painting them I thought of them as "Feral Vampires," although when I just rechecked they are called "Vampire Thralls." I dunno. They don't look very thrall-like to me. Their tag line in the Kickstarter was "Float about in my night dress cooing for scraps? No way. I hunt my own meal." Anyhow, they have a fun, odd, lady pirate or highwayman look. All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios. Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated. This is a slight deviation from how I prime figures. Normally I prime them with Titanium White (which I did here) and then wash over them with Burnt Umber to bring out the details. These I wanted kind of cold-looking, so I washed them with a cold dark grey mixed from Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue. That's them on the left. For a while I was including Bad Squiddo's "Dracula" in the photos, so you get a free peek at that too. And as per usual, the first thing I did was their skin. In contrast to the skin of living humans, I have been painting vampire skin in stark black-and-white mixed from Titanium White and Carbon Black. The very first layer is thinned Titanium White, then pale shadows of the lightest grey.

    03862: Shardis, Elf Rogue

Opened this one up and got it primed when I noticed a very significant case of mold-slippage. The details on her right side and left arm just didn’t line up, and I don’t have the skill to file/green stuff it away. So, rather than weep and save the mini for a melt table, she became practice! This ended up being a combination of speedpaint, demimetallic experimentation, and basing attempt, 3-4 hours total work including lots of futzing with paint mixes on my palette. The results: Oh, and I made her a Dark Elf to try more white hair. The purple metal is Royal Purple and Filigree Silver, mixed in varying degrees. Other metallics tended to un-purple the mix too much (except New Gold, but that’s a different look). I think she’s supposed to have gauntlets, but due to the casting issues these became cloth sleeves. In the end she turned out far better than expected, so I’m glad I didn’t give up. One less potential resident of the shelf of shame. Comments and critiques welcome, as always.
  8. Updated photos of General Matisse I painted a few months ago. Would appreciate any c&c. Please enjoy.

Crusader Knight with two handed sword

Finished my first metal mini. Took some time to get the chain mail the way I wanted.
  10. I am going to give a WIP thread a try. I am painting DHL 02881: Dara, Psionic Warrior. She is Not In Catalog (NICed) but still available from reaper. I have had Dara sitting around for a while. I think she is rather unique and bought her shortly after she was released. Unlike a lot of my minis, she didn't tell me how to paint her other than " I have dark skin and purple hair". I thought about her for a while but then was inspired by "when in doubt, paint the shadows purple" which made me think of " Join the cult of purple and teal- you know you want to". So I decided the cloak would be teal with purple for shadows. Then I was looking at One Boot's metallic painting thread and thought "with purple and teal the armor has to be metallic gold". This is where I am so far:
  11. I was using this to try a different skin color which I like and I believe I was going to do a bit more detailed TMM but got side tracked. After several months of no work on him, I decided to get him "done" to tabletop level. Here are some shaky iPad photos. C&C welcome.

    Kar Drakir, Reptus Dragonman 03316

I painted this fig over the weekend. I typically stick with the bones material, but I liked this fig so much I splurged for the metal version. I went with a red color scheme for a dragonborn character that I rolled up for an upcoming adventure. I like how the gold armor goes with the reddish brown skin, but if I had to do it over, I would have chosen a more vibrant purple for the shield and cloth bits of the tunic. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I can definitely see myself getting a few more of these and doing them with color schemes for all of the other types of dragons. Comments and critiques are welcome as always! Thank you!
  13. Hello all, Starting a new WIP for a mini I'm working on for one of the players in my D&D 5e campaign. One of her characters is a Tiefling Eldritch Knight, so I have selected the glaive-weilding S'Kara to be the starting point for this project... As you can see, I have just begun. I have primed the mini, and used a pair of pliers to slightly curve her horns, to achieve a more ram-like, less devil-like look. I'm currently in the process of selecting colours for the cloth portion of her outfit. Any suggestions or ideas? (Fyi, she will have dark brown hair and olive skin). As always, comments and constructive feedback are always welcome! -E.E.

    03785 - Jakob Knochengard

Presenting Jakob Knochengard - Zombie Slayer, the first finished mini from my Dreadmere Begins WIP thread. I've been really taken with the minis Reaper have been producing for their Dreadmere setting, hopefully a few more of the ones they're doing for Bones 4 get released in metal. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  15. For your consideration, I offer you the Frost Giant King from the Bones 3 Kickstarter. He is the pair to the Frost Giant Queen and I am not disappointed in the sculpt. This miniature (bigature?) is packed with details and a metric-ton of space to paint and practice textures. The level of detail for Bones miniatures continues to impress me. The King and Queen were both primed with Krylon and sealed with Dull Cote and neither exhibits tackiness. The bits that stick out - like the butt of the spear - did rub off when I handled it during painting. I really had to work my way from the inside out to paint this big guy. The fur textures on the fur cape was an enjoyable ride. I look forward to seeing what others do with this team of Giants, and I'm eyeballing the release schedule for the Frost Giant Guards. I recommend purchasing the Royalty as soon as they are available. Gratitude for all who participated in the WiP thread. Your enthusiasm kept me going. #respect #gratitude I hope you enjoy. :)

    Wolf Tribe - Rageclaw Warrior

I'm working on painting a tribe of wolf people and this is the second guy I've completed (first one here). This is also the first custom base that I've made. Funny side note: Early on in painting this guy I posted on the works in progress board asking for opinions on what is hanging on his foot. The conclusion that we came to was that it was some kind of buckle which apparently the sculptor of this piece (Werner Klocke) is obsessed with. As I kept painting I definitely started noticing the abundance of buckles across the various leather straps. It just made me laugh every time I discovered a new one. Anyway comments, suggestions, and criticisms welcome! Thanks!
  17. This was the Secret Sophie mini I painted for Auberon this year. One of the "inspiration" pictures he sent me was described as "not technically a chainmail bikini." So I just decided to go with an unabashed chainmail bikini. I experimented a bit and used NMM on the armor and blades. I'm happy with the placement on the gold, but I think it needs more contrast. I'm happy with the contrast on the steel, but the placement is definitely wrong somehow. Comments on how to improve this are welcome.

Deadly Grace: Dark Sword Elf Warrior

Finally got around to taking photos of my ReaperCon entries for 2017 and this was one of my entries in the Painter's category. This is Dark Sword's Female Wood Elf Warrior and I wanted to paint this one up for a long time but could not decided on what color scheme to use. All I knew was that I wanted to do something different than what you would expect for a wood elf but I did not know what. It finally came to me, use mainly purples and greys and make her a drow. After determining that, the base plan came to me pretty quickly, place her in a cave with natural crystals and spiderwebs. The webs were created using UHU glue. She ended up being my entry that was judged for that category and I was very pleased to receive a gold medal. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  19. I'm painting a Rageclaw Warrior and I'm trying to figure out what this thing is. He has a leather strap wrapped around one of his hind legs and there's something hanging off it. Can anyone tell what it is? It's a package or a letter maybe? I don't know what color to paint it.

    77051: Orc Stalker

So...this is 1/4 for the FebRPChallenge. I just have quick and dirty cell phone pics for now, until I get my lightbox set up. I painted this with following the schematic outlined in the LTPK.
  21. My latest Bone lll offering. Can't say I enjoyed the one. Has real problems with the armour and not really happy with the end results. May have been better using metallics. the shield turned out OK.

    Frost Giant King WIP

Update on the Frost Giant King. Cheers to the recommendation on Bases to replace the GW base! I have a slew of baes now for my projects. Plus this base is so much better. I hope to add more embellishment like rocks to match the Queen after I get this chap sorted. So many smooth surfaces asking for textures. Leather texture after the inner cloak is done. The spear shaft wood.grain has to wait until the end as the butt of the spear continues to be worn off during painting. The sword will be a session work in-and-of itself. Enjoy!

    Percival

Presenting Percival, a knight of renown from Kingdom Death. Not massively happy with the face on this one, I was trying to give her a very pale complexion but it didn't really work. I also could've done a better job on her hair (I was just very intimidated by it for some reason). I am pretty pleased with the rest of her though. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    03149 Justine, Undead Hunter

So what class would a Undead Hunter be? Paladin?
  25. Couldn't resist starting on his guy as soon as he arrived! I'm not sure what a Bloodreaper is, but they look like this:- Although mine currently looks like this:- As it would be pretty much impossible to paint the inside of his coat, or his legs, once assembled, I'm getting them out of the way first. Although you can't see it, the inside of his coat is mostly done. It's been based in 2:1 Vallejo Hexed Lichen/Vallejo Pure Black, then shaded with 1:1 Hexed Lichen/Pure Black and 1:2 Hexed Lichen/Pure Black. Just need to highlight up the open flap. The boots are completely finished. They were based with Vallejo Leather Brown, then highlighted with 2:1 Leather Brown/Vallejo Iraq Sand and 1:2 Leather Brown/Iraq Sand. They also got Vallejo Bronze buckles and Tanned Leather laces and finally a glaze of Brownshade Wash.
