    Autumn Huntress by Cyr

Alright, so the moss came in and did brighten her up. Now she has happy autumn instead of dark autumn. The lights were getting dim but I had to take some photos anyway! I might update them another time. The colors chosen are based off real colors in actual peacocks, even the spotted sash (upper wing near shoulder) and yellow cloak (legs) and the hair (more wing colors). The tall grass is made of real peacock feathers that I snipped and glued together. I wanted her to be going between some fantastic brush on a rocky hillside. One of the feather pieces got stuck under her arm for photos... and by the time I noticed my sunlight was gone. The flowers are from I think Floranatur? Something like that. The rock is first painted as a gneiss, then drizzled in schist dust, with actual garnets glued in as cobbles, then they got mossed a bit. Not too shabby for first real basing batch? I intend to do a "how to peacock feathers" when 1) I get the energy to do another cloak in peacock feathers, 2) empty out my wet palette, and 3) pick a figure for it. I'll also be taking @Clever Crow's advice and increasing the contrast per feather next time. Enough blather - you all just want pictures!
  2. I painted this one in Fall/Winter for @Jay for the 2017 Secret Santa. He said he was playing a martial artist in a tabletop campaign, so I gave him "Bruce Lee". Bruce Lee has some classic yellow and black pants, so I changed the black for red for flair. To avoid ketchup-and-mustard (and the original pants color is Mustard Yellow), I popped some doodles onto the belt. I did intense shading on the skin to make it clear that the dude is made of muscles. The yellow is shaded with Arbuckles Brown from Scale 75, which is pretty much a brown-purple, through Reaper Mustard Yellow, to Scale 75 Hykey Yellow, and Reaper Linen White. I kept the base minimal for ease of use in Jay's game, and gave the base some extra sealant, anticipating handling.
  3. Whoop WHOOP, first part of the big commission done. They look pretty nice lined up like this I think the customer is gonna be happy!

    Yellow Sign, Byakhee

So I could probably have touched up the upper carapace of these guys a bit, added some more highlights, I don't think there's quite enough contrast on most of them, but I need to get these guys done and I still have the undead to do. So I varnished them and I think they turned out pretty well. C&C always appreciated!

    Yellow Sign Cultists

Show off might be a bit of a misnomer, I'm not the happiest with these guys, mostly putting this up for tips on what I could do better next time. Paste from final post in WIP thread: Alright "finished" with these guys. When I say "finished" I mean I'm overcoming my perfectionism to move on to something else because they're serviceable. Tried to use some speed painting techniques, but still took way too long, need to work on that. If anyone's got any tips on how I could have made them better without, layering/glazing/something else that takes forever, they would be much appreciated!

    I don't yellow so well...

Well, it's simply not me to admit I have a failing, so I'd like to CLEAR one up as soon as possible. After painting my town turquoise and red, I have come to notice that I have neglected one giant section of the spectrum. I have some P3 yellow, Vallejo Neon Yellow, and Reaper Clear Yellow... And absolutely no miniatures with satisfying yellow colour schemes. So I have an elf with a yellow cape, with bluish streaks through it, randomly. I recently got the Clear Yellow and started to tint some of my transparents. Except now I have a set of fireballs that are themed like the cover of that offspring album that had Original Prankster... and the yellow is not see through. And, I have one perfectly radioactive looking shield in Flourescent Yellow. What did I do wrong? How do I yellow? >.>

    Ogre clubber 03711

I like the idea of yellow and orange skinned ogres and I've seen a few before. This is my first foray into yellow skinned ogre territory and I liked highlighting Witt a mix of orange and shading with a bit of green. This was a heavy one though, so I'll be looking forward to the bones ones coming soon (tm). I stamped some green stuff for the base and sculpted a couple extra bits while I was at it. It's supposed to be a bit of cloth and some rope. Also there is a pile of round objects that honestly looks like massive deer poo. Well, why not? Painted the cloth red, which maybe makes it stand out a little too much. I'd appreciate any feedback or advice on what to improve before I get started on the bones 3 ogres. thanks for looking!
  8. So I'm painting up a big project at work and have had a heck of a time figuring out how to get a good looking yellow gemstone. I don't want it to be orange, but really yellow. I've been fiddling with using red browns as the base, but it comes out more like a muddy yellow than a crystalline yellow. You folks are some of the best painters out there in World Wide Web World, so I figured I'd try and pick your brains :) Any help would be appreciated.
