The Grand Order of the Temple

Recommended Posts

Played a game V Adon last night.

Adon used: 4 Mantis, 1 Faction Ogre, 1 challenger.

6 Chieftan

I used

2 Stilleto, 3 Sabre.

60 Dictator, Duelist, 2 lance tank

2 Duelist, Centurion

I grouped up my units in a big bunch and used TL from the Duelists and Jam from the Sabres. This gave my whole force +2Rav and +3DV due to the ECM and EST of those two miniature types. I moved up behind cover and pounded the Adonese all game. They suffered badly.

He moved his units toward mine utilizing cover. By the time he got into point blank range, it was over.

Adon player failed to use an EST and ECM carrier in his force (where he gets double the AOE for its affectiveness).

yep... funny thing is, Adon doesn't manufacture a unit with ECM or EST. They don't even have one in the open list. They have to use foreign powers' units from before the galaxy war.

I could be wrong.

Wow, you're right! Not a single Recon CAV or Vehicle from either RMI or Borsig-Spline. Wierd.

I see a faction-specific recon model in Blitz's future.

So now that the Sovereign III is out as the go to fire support CAV who is next up in our batter's box? I'm really leaning toward the Flail. It's all the Sov used to be and not that many more points than the the Sov III is now. Anyone else?

I agree. Hopefully we'll see the Sovie IV someday soon.

OK Gentleman here's what I'm thinking for a 3k force.

Armor:

Duelist 357

Crusader 376

Glad II (upgrade peircing to 3 on DFM) 309 + 120

Glad II (upgrade piercing to 3 on DFM) 309 + 120

Total 1,351 + 240

Mechanized Infantry:

Charger 157 x2

Rifle team 84 x2

Rifle team 84 x2

Total 650

Recon:

Spartan 169

Mamba 114

Mamba 114

Stiletto 102

Stiletto 102

Total 601

Flight

Ghast (upgrade to piercing 3) 105 + 30

Ghast (upgrade to piercing 3) 105 + 30

Total 210 + 60

This puts me at 2,812 total (I used the pimped rides ability to wash the upgrades).

I have 188 pts left and need some Indirect Fire but not sure where to go. Thoughts????

I would probably have swapped in another Duelist for one of those Gladbags. Use the upgrades to add Avenger to anything that doesnt have it, add ECM or EST to a few things, etc...

Based on what you said, that would leave in the neighborhood of 120 or so points left to mes with, where you could do a specialist troop of a single vehic that again could be a rover with ECM or EST.

Indirect fire machines are decent once you get up to the 300 point models, the lesser models I have seen to be not very affective except for mop up duty.

Ok, are you using the Templar Doctrine for the free upgrades, right?

I would spend the remaining points on strike assests. You got four models with FiST. Air Strikes or Artillery strikes with target points near Electronic warfare models.

Let's talk about the Warhawk. Sure the SyRam created the Starhawk IV but leave it to the Templars to Viperize it. High speed with a decent punch makes this unit an excellent Hit N' Run/ Flank harasser. At the economical pricetag of 300 pts. its easy on the wallet to use them in pairs or packs.

And yes, I still think its outrageous to have a attack CAV with a 14 Mov. But I'll work with what I have... while working on returning the link SA back to the Knight, the Centurion and the Crusaders.

Avenger/3 on everything you can. I consider it almost manditory with the infantry results we've had around here. I've found that the Spartan mixed in with your main attack section and upgraded with EST is a huge asset.

I had considered that since I had the points. i wouldn't be able to upgrade it, but i was going to use the Crusader for the EST. Speaking of the Spartan, I'm really leaning toward a Khan. Same points but it comes with EST. The Spartan has a 3 CCV but I can't decide if I think that will make a difference in a fight. I think Infantry will still wax it and I really don't want to open it up to direct fire from other CAVs.

Today's CAV: H-M Warlord

Ok, its an open market model, but its still a H-M machine and nasty as hell.

The Rexus III never degrade and a +5 against hard at a 32" range. Even on it last DT its still a threat. And did I mention it has 7DTs. We're talkin' longevity.

Of course, it has two major flaws. No Assualt or Rugged. Spending an extra 35pts for rugged upgrade would be a wise investment. In large battles take a repair crew to compensate for its low repair stats.

While on the subject of open market models... the H-M Stiletto. Fast (14mov and Assualt), high damage and dirt cheap. Use these for first strike models and to tie up your opponent's hard while yer tougher, slower models moving in.

The warlord indeed has some good stats. I've been thinking of picking up one or two to add a little long range fire to offset the short range of my Dictators.

Love the Stiletto  . I also like to pair them with two Mamba's from the Templar list. Fast, cheap and covers all the bases.
