Reaper's Official Position on Paint and Proxy

Recommended Posts

1) Official models that are unpainted, primed, or painted a single color are acceptable and allowed for use in any official event.

2) Substitute models from outside manufacturers are not acceptable and are not allowed for use in any official event.

3) Generic substitutions from any Reaper lines are allowed for use as non-Warlord models in any official event. Warlord models may not be proxied.

4) A particular generic substitute model type can only be used to represent a single type of model and/or data card in any official event.

5) A generic substitute model must be on the same size base the model it is substituting for would be on in any official event.

After reading the range of posts on the last three pages of this thread it seemed like things were going to get creative for a number of the players on the list. I am just now looking into Warlord, but I have been wondering how it might work to, for example, try to field a whole force of elementals, and then to search through a factions cards (I was thinking of Mercenaries) for cards that would be appropriate.

For example, could a bunch of DH big earth elementals/Stone Golems be fielded using the various Lupine cards, and then the smaller elementals using basic soldier cards? I guess the question boils down to whether or not players feel like substitutes should at least look like what they represent, or whether the resemblance can be more abstract (big nasty w/lots of attacks and frenzy etc.). I know that for many games anything can be done with the agreement of the players, but I was hoping to get a notion of what the general reaction of listmembers would be to this kind of force (too confusing, too misleading, not the right "spirit of the game" etc.). I have not looked at all of the factions yet - if in fact one of the factions has a bunch of elemental models, take the question based on some model that isn't covered.

Yes, you may substitute your elementals for models of the correct base size out of a faction that you like.

Another option is to go all freelance and pick datacards that you like from any faction, and just call them all elementals. The important thing to remember is alignment - you can't mix good and evil in the same army.

Off the top of my head, elementals exist in the Dwarf army (two of their solos), Overlords (they have an elemental solo), and Nefsokar (again a solo - dust devil).

If I were to pick stat cards that would make good elementals, I would pick fliers from Reven or Reptus for wind elementals, and burrowers from Dwarves (of if you're going evil, you can choose from Necropolis and Darkspawn I think) for earth elementals. I'm not sure what I'd do for fire or water elementals... maybe something with frenzy for fire elementals, since they can do alot of damage. If you want, check out the data card search on reapergames (see the link across the top of this page, go to the warlord section, you probably have to log in) to quickly find what you're looking for. You can search for special abilities (flier, burrow), base sizes, model types, even numerical stat values. I've never fully made a proxy army, but I've put a few down on paper, and that's been the tool I've used each time.

Good luck! Building your own custom army is a blast :)

So long as it's clear that each is representing a diffrent datacard, I wouldn't resitate at playing against you. From what I see what you've proposed is one of the major reasons for the current proxy rules.

On a side note: Use reptus for the water elementals or anything else with amphibious.

I'm making a bunch of army lists from RC08 to test for possible ReaperCon Tournament inclusion. I did up a Merc lists with some Ronin. I know Reaper once did Clan War models and they are still on the figure finder with a note about not being available and only presented for completeness. Can I use the Reaper-produced Clan War models as proxy for Ronin at the ReaperCon Tournament next month? Thanks.

Watch out, guys. I am bringing my new Nec "The Children of the Great Pumpkin" to the con (list in Warlord Questions forum). A force of females and pumpkins. Sophie in Cat Suit is Eikar's proxy; Burrowing Zombies are Jack O'Lanterns; Skeletal Archers are females throwing pumpkins; Chattel are females and Pumpkin Horrors with hand weapons; Lilith the Succubus sans wings kneeling atop a large Jack O'Lantern is a Bloodseeker Vampire; Elise the Witch is Elsabeth Briarkiss; and so on.

I started a Samurai force as well, picking up the odd figure as I see them on eBay.

I would also like to make a force using the Chronoscope British, but gotta wait for another pack or two to get enough figure variety.

After that, maybe Vikings . . .

See you at the con, I will be the guy wearing the Pumpkin t-shirt and a smile (and jeans).

Dan

Edited rule #3 to remove the Warlord model exclusion. You may now proxy any model.

wait what? Is this official? You can proxy anything now? That means anything from the reaper line right?

Yes, you may use any Reaper mini to proxy for any datacard. ::):

This'z kind of funny. For years, I've been using Reaper models as proxies in other (non-Reaper) games...

I have a hopefully interesting question. The proxy rules say you can't substitute with a non-Reaper model, but what about a mostly Reaper model? For instance, I have a bad, bad habit of taking Warlord ogres and DH trolls and lopping off arms to replace them with Warjack arms (from Warmachine).

Most of the model remains Reaper. But how would that affect a proxy?

The rule used to be as long as you can recognize the torso and legs as a reaper model you can do anything you want to it. Now that was in a document that I'm pretty sure was scrapped when the downsized the ReaperGames site. So, it may still be policy but them again maybe not.

There used to be a time (During Dark Heaven Apocalypse) when the only proxy rule was no figures from the "Evil Empire." My guess is that is the company that shares its initials with the second President Bush.
