Thank you Warwick,

COH makes the Daughters into Merc/Neutral, and that means that i can use them as my very own whip sisters (Yes i know that it's sad that i have renamed them.)

But as it stands the basics of my prefered list are :

Samantha running with Olivia, Spellsister, 4 Whipsister and 4 blade sister

Callindria running with Silverrain, and 4 Bowsisters

Kassandra running with 5 shadow sisters

Nicole running with Olivia and Blade sisters

Nicole #2 running with Spell sister and Blade sisters

I havn't bothered to add it up as i change equipment and spells every game depending on who (and occasonly what) i'm playing against.

I was thinking about ditching the Daughters, and freelanceing with some proxied Battle nuns and Hospitalias and a different angel and maybe some elvin archers.... buts thats for when i can afford to expand....maybe next week

also remember you don't need to restrict yourself to datacards where the official minis are female. As per the new proxy rules you can chose any datacard and use appropriate (female) minis from the DHL line for instance.

I'd use the "datacard search" thing on reapergames to locate good candidates for COH if I was running a merc army.

Ok, try this on for size for 1191pts...

Troop1:

Nicole

3 Bladesisters

3 Merc Crossbows

Tallis (Teleport, Holy Light, Bless, 2 Cure1)

Troop2:

Sigurd

3 Merc Axe

3 Merc Spear

Shad Coalshadow

Troop3:

Kassandra

3 Shadow Sisters

Siellendria (Lightning Bolt, Counter Spell, Shockwave, 2 Bolt)

Troop4:

Artemis

2 Merc Warrior

2 Merc Crossbow

Troop5:

COH - Guardian Beast (summoned by Tallis)

I'm going up against a Razig army with the Dark Maiden as a strong point, so I thought the Guardian beast would make a nice contest. Also, he uses zombie recruits primarily, which makes for a smaller, but hardier force. I mixed the crossbows in so they would have some shelter and I can do the whole move to open LOS, shoot, move to close LOS tactic. I'm curious what you all think...

I like the list overall, but i would probably lean a little towards changing your spell choice.

This is bsad on a straight up fight rather than scenario tactics.

For your cleric focus more on holy lights since your enemy is mostly undeads.

For your mage, limit yourself to counterspells (against the maiden), ice blasts (for the other hero type opponents), and stuns (against the troops).

On a separate note, MOJO... when are you gonna play in public? I still have a Thursday night group waiting for you to come game with us. We are having to move due to the fact that Gamewyze is shutting down, but no big deal, just a new venue. Let me know via PM when I can expect you to join us.

Feedback/Advice on a Mercs list?

Hi everyone, I am new to Warlord, and while it will be a bit before my friend and I play a game, I have a list worked up and was hoping for some feedback as to what might work and what might not. The list will use proxy rules so that it (in the end) will be Vasyl and a bunch of assassins running around in cloak with swords and knives. It is for this reason that I don't really have ranges fighters -- both the character of the thing and the tactics (I hope) will involve running up and hiding behind things to get into HTH. If anyone sees something that I am doing wrong with the points please also let me know:

Troop 1

Lord Vasyl (244)

Greater Magic Armor, Magic Weapon (45)

Ado Salint (71)

Magical Weapon (15)

Eredain (43)

Familiar, 1xStun, 3xIce Shards, 3xBolt (75)

2x OKuran Ronin (118)

4x Street Thug (116)

=727

Troop 2

Haranobu (76)

Magical Weapon (15)

Arik Trellazar (62)

4xStreet Thug (116)

=269

=Total 996

I guess the main question that I have is whether putting a whole bunch of eggs in one basket (troop 1) is a good idea. In the CAV games that I have been playing I have aliked the idea of having a ton of activation cards with fairly light units, but in this game it seems like it might be good to have larger units, so that they spank what they manage to hit?

With the recent changes in RC2008 pending, Lupine have just been moved into their own Faction, so Vasyl would not be a valid Merc build option, although I reckon, you could use the Merc change of Heart to make Vasyl your changed model.

Though I am having a brain cramp about whether you can COH warlord at the moment and the books are in the room with the sleeping baby

So the change to their own faction list is a sure thing? I guess this will be a fun list to play, eventually (!), but the irony is that the rest of the army is DHL minis (basically the ones with hooded cloaks) which I already had from Role-Playing - so he was the "big buy" to get the army list going! OK, so maybe I'll try to spring for Orba Sinhan and use a Prxy until I do. That would give me another 114 points, I think - maybe I will try to make a small 3rd troop?

Are there any other significant changes to the Mercs list in RC 2008 that you are able to share? I wouldn't mind waiting until they come out, but I am home from work with two sick kids, which makes this a perfect day to plan, base, and start painting!

It's legal in the current edition, though I can't speak for RC 2008.

I wouldn't recommend using COH on Vasyl, though. He's eating about a quarter of your points on a 1000 point list, and just isn't worth his point cost overall.

FH, your list needs a higher headcount. Cheap infantry is one of the strong points of the Merc list. Try subbing in some 18 point warriors and 19 point spearmen.

Yeah, Vasyl was just a model that I thought was really cool. He isn't really even right for the character of the list, but once I spent the money on the model (and he was the only warlord model I had) I wanted to use him anyway. Funny how the news that I can't use him (in all probability) isn't disappointing as much as exciting that I might get a Lupine army at some point. I am an addict and I have to admit that I am powerless...

On the headcount: I was wondering about this - those 18-19 pointers seem like they won't do that much except get spanked, but I guess they are useful as support, etc? Without real flanks (just rear, IIRC) I wasn't sure if the numbers game would work for Warlord.

There's a reason Support and Reach are capped at +3 each for a total +6 maximum.

Numbers work very well.

There are some models that can withstand a concentrated attack by a mob, but even then, it will only be for a short time.

One thing I will say, is that numbers don't always win you the game. RC07, made them far less effective in my opinion (not that it can't be exploited, jut not as heavily or easily as it used to be). Don't be afraid to throw some hefty units in the game, but in general try to balance these out with some cheaper ones.

I am interested to hear more about whether or not people think that numbers is the way to go. This seems especially to the point now that there seems to be a whole list of nothing but large and expensive Lupines (although I haven't looked carefully to see if they have cheap grunts or not). It also seems like some lists have the 18-20 point models, while others bottom out at 30 points or so. This seems to be a real issue if hordes really do rule the field, or whether, and in what circumstances, this is not always the case.

My Orcs and Goblins get wiped out quite easily. I think my flaw tends to be that I may take them in too large troops, and that they may be far more efficient if I was to take many many smaller ones. Spells and archers can really dent cheap low quality troops, and Warmaster models might be expensive, but they are really worthwhile when facing a high number of troops, and a high number of models.

Hmmm... I hope you're mistaken on this point, only because one of the faction SAs for Reven is the ability to take larger troops. It would stink if using a faction SA was actually a disadvantage.

Which is of course why I've always used them in large troops, but I believe I may start to put them in smaller ones, or at least supplement maybe 2 large troops with several small ones. Maybe a bit of variety.

One thing to probably remember about the default list is that it really needs to be a combined arms list, if you take just a huge unit of gobbos or a huge unit of orcs you may be getting yourself into trouble.

Better to fill out the main portion of your list with Bull Orcs, Ogres, Bug Bears, or Gnolls, and then supplement the remainder of the troop with mob units (Orc Warriors, Spearmen, Goblins, Skeeters, and Goblin Rangers).

So my troops might look like these now (assuming RC08):

Neek

8 Bull Orc Fighter

4 Orc Spearmen

3 Skeeters

4 Goblin Warriors

Neek

4 Ogres

4 Bull Hunters

7 Orc Warriors

5 Skeeters

just my opinion of course, but I get more value out of those troops than if I stuck only to cheap Orcs and Goblins an maximize my model count. I think if I was focused solo on crappy troops, I would spread them over alot of troops to make my card count go up severely.
