'New line of minis with a warning that the models and game are for adults only. Very graphic violence, and not for children. The site asks if you are old enough.

This looks like it fills the niche for grownups wanting to play a horror minis game. Apparently it uses small forces around five to ten models, so it doesn't look like it'll break the bank. I have to say it has grabbed my interest. Anyone thinking tabletop games and metal models are dying should see that there are now two threads within days of each other for new games.

I like some of the minis, but the rest left me unimpressed. A game world that raises it's dead by having a madman rape their mutilated corpses back to life is not for me. Sure it is a horror setting, but there is a point. I'll stick with horrorclix for my horror fix. Plenty of zombies, wolfmen, and other creepy crawleys there, as well as innocent victims to slaughter. And I don't have to read about resurrection via necrophilia.

Looks ok, but the horror genre always left me cold (and generally afraid of the dark...but that's another story ::P:)

Call me when Pyramid Head shows up, otherwise I think I'll pass on this.

I was somehow hoping for something more varied in regards to the selection of minis. I'm not afraid of scary movie style stuff. The pig man did get under my skin, but that's an oddity. I'm just freaked out by sentient pigs that weren't written by George Orwell.

The story had a fledgling gaming company feel going for it. The necrophilia only started to bother me when they went that far into depth over something that seems to rarely happen in-game. I mean, unless they release an entirely army of re-animated persons based off of that.

They certainly picked a niche of a niche market. I like the concept, and hope that they have the time to really flesh the execution out well. It feels like there's some great potential waiting to come out of the idea. For the time being, though, it's almost like a backstory to a modern heavy metal album - complete with a b®and name written in nearly unreadable lettering.

I agree, the horror genre leaves me cold as well. A lot of times the horror genre is an excuse for showing "slasher-porn," but instead of showing skin...they show SKIN...and blood...and stuff coming out of the skin...

You know the clown is the most evil one of the bunch...not only is he a clown, but he's wearing his bondage outfit...

Damon.

Ahh yes. I completely forgot about the clown in bondage gear thanks to the creepy pig-man and the thug in a hockey mask.

I love horror. I was on a news interview from the early screening of Texas Chainsaw Massacre we went to - at one of the actual filming locations. The remake. And there's almost three seconds of me in the special features of Freddy vs Jason. But this, to me, still looks more like a heavy metal idea more than real horror.

Most of the story was still a fun read - what they have on the site, anyway.

Hey guys, I know I'm zombifying a dead thread here, but it's normally considered nicer than starting up a brand new one for this sort of thing. :)

I just wanted to give anyone that's interested a head's up that Spinespur launched at Origins (as planned), our on-line store is up and running, our forums are going strong, and we'll have a booth at Gencon (#1415) and we're hoping to have a presence at a few other conventions later on this season, too. There might even be some new miniatures and/or concept art since folks last took a look.

Also, as a new update to the web page since this thread was first started, we've got a few pages of "Hurst's Survival Guide" posted, an in-character point of view sort of document. Hurst, in-game, has gotten together a two-bit printing press, and tries to get this document out to all the new guys in Spinespur with a rundown of some of the more nasty and prominent lowlifes and areas of the place, theories as to what Spinespur is and how people get there, and other sorts of assorted nastiness. Now, it's not the most work safe document ever, though, so be careful about where you are when you give the game world a once-over (no pictures or anything, but plenty of bad-natured cursing and some graphic descriptions).

If anyone's got any questions about anything to do with the game, feel free to ask 'em here, toss me a PM, or swing on by the ComfyChair forums and make an account. We readily acknowledge the game isn't "for" everyone (insert Kevin Smith joke about being "for" critics here) -- but if the horror genre is your thing, give it a look or swing by the booth at Gencon for a demo.

That necro bit sounds like it's from the Necroscope books, or inspired by. So, possibly just another tribute to horror, rather than "what's the worst thing we can think of?".

Still gross though.

That's the thing with most horror to me; it's just kinda disgusting and not really disturbing, uncomfortable, or scary.

Except that pigdude. That miniature was freakin' scary.

I played a few games of this at a Spinespur gamesday in Jersey yesterday and last night. It is a LOT of fun. The mechanic of the three dice/blood die is really nice. I liked it so much that I bought the entire line as well as the rulebook. I'll see if I can get a proper review together after I finish the rules.

YAY! The pervy clown returns and it wasn't me who brought him up this time.

I rather like the models quite a bit. I dig that weird horror. I can't comment on the game as I've never played it - but the figures are definately getting used in moden day pulp scenarios.

Looks ok. They've built up enough material that doesn't really come into play during a wargame that I think it would be possible for them to release roleplaying supplements that people might buy.

Personally I think it's a comedic, rather than a horror style. Would make a pretty sweet MMORPG, though. "Need rez plz!" *the "cleric" shows up* "Wait, NO! No rez, no rez!" *rez occurs* "I needz a shower now cuz I been violatorzed"

Now if somebody made a horror wargame that was similar in style to the Unreal Tournament 2004 mod Out of Hell I'd buy enough models to play every faction. Click on "Hostiles" and you'll see what I think makes for good horror.

I've got my eyes on their models to double for RPG's and other wargames. I hope their line also incorporates some models easily converted/used to that effect.

It looks like a fun game, and I'll prolly pick up the book and enough models to play. It doesn't appear to be a game where you need tons of grunts, more like a hero or two and a squad.
