Nefsokar

They dont seem to get a lot of talk on the forums, but they sure talk well on the battlefield.

The combination of using Ammat Devourers and Anubis Guard as my melee punch, while I gallop around pinning people from ranged using Senet and the Khamsin archers.

Toss in Atifa and maybe Thoth and everything is looking good.

Nefsokar - 999 points

Troop 1

Khufu

Sokar's Prophets

Sokar's Disciple

Tomb Guard x 11

Troop 2

Ammat

Ammat Devourer x 2

Anubis Guard x 2

------------------------------------

19 models, 1 tactician

First turn move out troop 2 to either engage or steer the enemy where you need them. while holding troop 1 back a bit. Khufu can cast bless on his troop. Prophet casts Iron skin on Khufu.

Turn two Disciples Cast rot on the enemy target, prophet casts the Death's River and launches Khufu and friends at the enemy. Lots of carnage ensues.

Turn three: Disciples do more rotting, wall of fire, or burning touch whichever is most useful, Prophets use either bless or divine presence depending on which is better at the time, possibly even divine vigor on khufu or Ammat.

Dont forget to maximize the SAs of the soldiers.. provoke of the Anubis, Vicious of the devourers, Regeneration of the tomb guards given to them from Khufu's WA

If I ever buy another core faction it will be the Nefsokar. IMO the are the coolest models.

750 Nefsokar list of righteous wrath!

Troop 1

Neb'nesew Ne'pet

Ammat Devourer x2

Anubis Guard x 3

Awakened Mummy x 4

Troop 2

Anwar

---Book of Tactics

Khamsin Lancer x 2

Khamsin Raider x 2

Troop 3

Sokar's Avatar

=748 points, 16 models, 4 cards

Model count is right in the sweet spot. Just enough, not too many. Neb leads the pack straight up the middle with the golems in the van and the Mummies running caster D. Anwar flanks wide to freak out the enemy, pepper them with arrows, and send in the light horse when opportunity knocks.

Sokar's Avatar runs Zone Defense near Neb's troop, waiting to step in and crush whatever the Golems attract. Neb keeps a wary eye on healing the Avatar but otherwise brings the fury of the Storm upon the wretched enemies of the Dunes.

Rock'em Sock'em Nomads.

Wow cool list! If you bumped it up to a 1,000 pointer what would you add?

I'm a huge fan of teleporting mummies, so I would add a troop of teleporting mummies! For me, Nefsokar can't just march up and thwack people. Not that the faction can't do very well as a "march up and stomp them" army. They can and do. But since my primary army is Dwarves and that's pretty much what Dwarves do, I picked up Nefsokar so that I could have an army that pulls off crazy hijinks like, well, taking a pile of mummies and teleporting them! That's why 90% of my Nefsokar lists have a cavalry troop, I often field the Giant Scorpion, and if I can pull it off I have teleporting mummies. When I play Nefsokar I like to present my army, give the enemy something to line up and plan on dealing with, and then I like to change things up on them. i.e. deploy the cavalry on one flank and very early on swap flanks with a move/run, teleport some mummies to a new place, and use models like Neb to blast big holes in their army. To me that style of play is very un-dwarfy and it fits what I want in a different playstyle and it also seems to be what Nefsokar can do well. They've got some rock solid models and some really sweet tricks up their sleeves to hit you with those models where THEY want to hit you with them.

Cool list. I've always regretted not buying into Nefsokar. I may go to RC and trade in all my armies but my dwarfs and Reven for a Nefsokar force and more goblins. I would just buy into the army, but Warlord is all but dead in my area and I can't really justify $200 more until the game picks up here.

So.... after playing with the elves for a while I've decided to expand into Nefsokar. Picked up some clearance models at the FLGS last weekend, and added to figures I already own this is what I've got:

Chosen of Sokar

Awakened Mummy x8

Tariq

Khamsin herdsmen x3

Fatima

Netikerti

Sokar's Prophet

Heroic Pharoah (warlord proxy?)

Barrow Warden Mystic (proxy?)

Anubis Guard x8

Ammat Devourers x3

Daughter of Sekhmet

Avatar of Sekhmet

Dust Devil

Giant Scorpion

Spectral Minions x4

My question is: if I were to add 3-5 models (let's say $15-25 worth of figures) what should I get? Is there an essential warlord or monster model? Should I double up on the dust devil, scorpion or herdsmen? Suggestions quite welcome....

Well, Thoth has always been one of my very favorite Reaper models ever produced. And he isnt half bad on the table either. And then probably Ammat to lead the Ammat Devourers...

There are lots of ways to go that are good...

Not that I have all that much experience, but I like having at least these as part of my basic build:

Khufu

Sokar's Prophet

Tomb Guard x 3

Awakened Mummy x n

Ammat

Thoth

Ammat Devourer x 4

i also really like the Khamsin archers due to their speed and getting 2 shots as a norm. But, actual dollar wise they are a bit more expensive so you wouldnt get to increase your model count by much if you purchase any of them.

Tomb Guards are ok, but honestly when I want to have a rock solid troop choice to lead the charge, I pick Ammat Devourers every time. Pun intended. DV10 doesn't impress much, but with DR/1 it becomes very respectable. Most troopers will hit these guys once on average, which is just fine. You've got some, but if you upped the count from 3 to 6 it would be a good improvement.

As far as solos go, I absolutely love the Avatar of Sokar but it's not essential by any means. The Scorpion is nasty enough, and the Sekhmet Avatar gets the job done well also.

Stubbdog is right about the Khamsin Archers, they are very good models. 2 of them would be right around the upper limit of your proposed investment, but I think they'd perform well for you. Especially if you get them in a troop with a caster who can cast Blessing (Thoth, Prophet, Khufu) to boost the RAV on key turns.

Prophets really are versatile casters, wondering if I could get away with 4 casters in such a small army. Thoughts?

So, I'm debating experimenting with Khathan. I've never seen anyone use or even post a list that included her, and that concerns me a little. On paper, she is an attractive option for long range fire support. However, she is definitely a paper tiger, and I have never been good at keeping weaker targets out of harm's way. I would try her out just for fun at the upcoming tourney at the Asylum this month, except for the General Murphy scenario. Random deployment definitely does not help her survivability. What are anyone else's thoughts on using her? Or reasons not to.

She is very underused. I am slowly buying Nefsokar models and she is definitely one I want.

She is a Rav 6 that could be a 7 or 8 with a weapon and focus. She is also really fast and the Dunewalker would help her to slip out harm a little easier. Once you pop somebody with a Rav 7 or 8 she will become a dedicated target and your opponent will need to adjust just for her or get Pierced all game. If for nothing else she will be a great distraction that can do some real damage before going down. You have the best cleric in the game with Fatima and Sokar's Prophets are good healers too to keep her healthy.
